Welcome to STAY WYSE 2018 Welcome

Dear colleagues,

Welcome to the 2018 STAY WYSE Conference. This is the third year we’ve had hostel operators, investors, tour companies, suppliers, and many others gather in for trading and networking. This event grows bigger every year and 2018 is no exception with more buying organisations, a record number of pre-scheduled business appointments, plus a full educational and social programme.

New this year and just in time for the STAY WYSE Conference, we have opened submissions for the Global Youth Travel Award: Best Green Accommodation Initiative. This competitive award category garnered a record number of quality submissions in 2017. The award winner will be announced during the 2018 World Youth and Student Travel Conference (WYSTC) in Edinburgh on 18-21 September. We also encourage our accommodation delegates to sign the Sydney Declaration, which calls for online travel agents to participate in fair practices with hostel operators. And, our members are invited to participate in our self-certification programme to promote your safe communal environment for young travellers.

We are very pleased to have Bruce Poon Tip, founder of social enterprise G Adventures, open our event this year. Bruce will address a question he has tackled for decades - can tourism be a force for growth, change and global good? For the latest industry insights, don’t miss hearing from STR Senior Director of Research & Development, Patrick Mayock. I will join him to present a first look at the youth travel accommodation findings from the fourth edition of the New Horizons global survey of 57,000 youth travellers. The main report will be released in the early spring and is free to WYSE Travel Confederation members.

Additionally, a select group of entrepreneurs will share their innovative practices, partnerships, and products on the STAY WYSE stage. These BEDx sessions will cover business strategy for sustainability, crisis management, and new industry tech. Dr Stefan Tweraser, CEO of SnapShot, will give the Friday keynote on the future of data-driven hospitality management.

We are very grateful to all our sponsors for ensuring the 2018 STAY WYSE Conference is productive, informative and fun. Thanks to Generator Hostel and Hans Brinker Hostel for keeping our conference evenings long and lively. And we especially thank each of you for joining us here in Amsterdam.
