The App was created by an Archer for archers; to allow me to replace all my bits of paper and remember where my Sighters went and my last end landed when I get back to the shooting Line. I hope the App will be helpful and useful to all archers, whether you just want to get arrows down the range or become the next Olympic Champion. The App design sets out to achieve 5 goals: • Better understanding of arrow grouping on the target vs scores • Classification score levels for each Round • Simple to use single interface • Ability to save current and historic sight setting for all distances • A historic record of rounds scored Questions, queries, suggestions and dreaded bugs (fingers crossed) about the App can be sent to me at the email address: [email protected] , and I will endeavour to reply and address as soon as possible. All polite comments and suggestions are welcome to help improve the App. A copy of this manual is available via my Archery club’s website https://archie.warlinghamarchers.uk/ or I am happy to email it on a nice request. Please do not contact Warlingham Archers as they are not involved with the development or marketing of the App. This App will work ALL iPhones down to the iPhone 5 that are running iOS 12.4 or Higher. 1.1 Future developments: Archie’s Indoor Toolkit – same as Outdoor but different Rounds, Classifications and distances and a choice of Target Pictures Archie’s Clout Toolkit – again different Rounds, Classifications and distances, and total radical view of the target area and where the misses went, I mean to get a complete end on the target is well awe inspiring. Also iPad versions. Archie’s Outdoor Toolkit App v1.0 (Man v1.1) Copyright © Ken Archer 2020 Page 5 of 17 2 Features The App provides the following prime features: • Shows Arrow strikes on the target face, using clock indicators to place, thus allowing the Archer an appreciation of arrow grouping • Arrow Strikes are Automatically distinguished for each Round’s distances • Arrow Strikes are shown in three colours to allow easy grouping appreciation o Brown for Sighters o Green for selected or in use Dozen o White(ish) for Arrows in the distance Round group but not the selected or in use Dozen • The ability to record Sighters as part of the Round prior to scoring the round • Ability to show Sighters on the target, as part of the round at any stage during the Round • The option save and display archived rounds (including all round metrics) • The option save and display sight setting for all metric and imperial distances • The in use Round shows its different Classification scoring levels (Badges), for different bow styles and age/gender classes • 252 rounds show the required qualification score for the bow style in use • The App will automatically distinguish between metric scoring and Imperial scoring, no setup required • The App will show all distances for each Rounds’ Dozen • There are 66 different Round choices, 26 Metric and 40 Imperial • There are 4 bow style choices and 10 classification for each bow style • Rounds can be saved and reloaded for use at any stage of the Round • Sight settings can be displayed and new saved at any stage of the Round • Scoring metrics are shown ‘live’, on the main (only) screen, as the Archer is scoring, these include: o Round Total o All dozen totals o Half dozen totals for selected or in use Round o Missed arrows for selected or in use dozen o Round total of missed arrows o Gold arrow scores for selected or in use dozen o Round total of gold arrows scored o Round arrow Average o Selected or in use dozen arrow Average Archie’s Outdoor Toolkit App v1.0 (Man v1.1) Copyright © Ken Archer 2020 Page 6 of 17 3 Opening Screen Archie’s Outdoor Toolkit App v1.0 (Man v1.1) Copyright © Ken Archer 2020 Page 7 of 17 3.1 Pressing Field Setup Button This button allows you to setup the App “field” for scoring, and is the first button to use when preparing to score. Once ‘Field Setup Button’ is pressed it will display the Archery Round and Class choices, by rolling up and down on each column you can select which Class and Round you which to use, see Appendices for description of each Class and round. Once you have chosen; your selected the highlighted option, “LB:Gents” and “WA1440G” in the example, then Press Archie to load the selection, Archie will also close Round and class selection. If you decide not to select, then just press the ‘Field Setup Button’ to close the Round and Class selection. Note of warning: If you were to load a Round then any existing in use Round would be lost, so do not forget to save rounds (if you want to keep them!!) Archie’s Outdoor Toolkit App v1.0 (Man v1.1) Copyright © Ken Archer 2020 Page 8 of 17 3.2 Scoring a Round Once selected the screen will show the round chosen, and if you press the round name it will display the Class, and Classification scores required for that Round and Class combination. The Round dozens show the required distance for each dozen. Grey in colour indicates that no scoring has started. This means that the option to record Sighter arrows is available. Note of warning Once dozens show green and scoring has started then the option to record Sighters is lost. Archie’s Outdoor Toolkit App v1.0 (Man v1.1) Copyright © Ken Archer 2020 Page 9 of 17 3.2.1 Pressing the Sighters Button Pressing the Sighters Button allows the recording of Sighters, Archie will show that Sighters Button has been pressed. You can now start scoring, well after you have shot some arrows! To score press the score ring number of the scoring keys, your number score will then appear in the scoring row, in this example you can see my Sighters have scored 10, 8 and 3. For each score the scoring keys will change to hourly clock faces after the ring number is selected, in the example my score 3 is waiting for me to select which clock, thus how to place the arrow, my score of 10 was at 3 O’clock and my score of 8 was at 4 O’clock. Sighter arrows show brown on the target face and do not give a total. You can have up to 12 Sighters, and during the actual round scoring you can press the Sighters button to show Sighters. Note in this example I have one gold Sighter this will never show on the gold total for the round, the same will be true of misses (who has these!!) To stop recording Sighters either press the Sighters button or press the first round’s Dozen for scoring. Once Sighters have been scored then they will always be part of that round, and available to show, by pressing the Sighters Button. Archie’s Outdoor Toolkit App v1.0 (Man v1.1) Copyright © Ken Archer 2020 Page 10 of 17 3.2.2 Starting the round Scoring By pressing the first dozen to score the dozen change to green and the scoring row for the dozen changes to white. Now just shoot the arrows, it does not matter if you score in ends of 3, 6 or even 12, just score the arrows. The scoring does not have to be in the normal format of highest arrows first any order is fine. To score: Press the scoring ring number and select the clock face for each arrow. The clock hour tells the App were to place the arrow in the scored ring. If you are scoring an Imperial round the App will only award Imperial scores, even if you select an even number ring. E.g. for an imperial round an arrow scored as being in the 6 ring at 3 o’clock, will be show the arrow hit in the 6 ring at 3 o’clock, but score a 5. At any point you can save the round by pressing Archie and retrieve it from the Log Book for continuing after lunch, or when you’ve found your arrows! Once you have completed the dozen then select the next dozen to score. Archie’s Outdoor Toolkit App v1.0 (Man v1.1) Copyright © Ken Archer 2020 Page 11 of 17 Above, you can see the example on the left shows my complete 1st dozen scoring, note metrics around the target face showing dozen average and Round average, rA and dA.

Editorial by Morten Wilmann, Chairman Dear Judges, When writing this editorial we are just up front of the Olympics. For judges on duty for that event, it is starting to be a bit thrilling. Some athletes are saying that this “is only one event like other events”, and some may regard it as such (although I doubt if they manage). In spite of recent news about extensive doping in some sports and in some countries, I still think that the Olympics stands out as a very special event, well regarded and connected with “personal glory” for the winners. Archery in the Olympics 2016 – in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – takes place in the famous street of the Sanbodromo where the carnival regularly takes place, again a rather iconic place for archery. These are surroundings that may add some thrill to the competition, and your committee is confident that our judges will perform at the same top level as the archers – in spite of the possible stress of the moments. • Crossbow Permit Application Instructions
Crossbow Permit Application Instructions The attached application must be completed and signed by the applicant and the applicant’s physician. APPLICANTS PLEASE NOTE: Successful applicants will not receive a hard copy crossbow permit; instead their disability status will show on their license and can also be seen on their customer profile in the MassFishHunt online licensing system. It will read “Disability: Crossbow”. Therefore, all applicants must have a MassFishHunt account for their application to be processed. The crossbow status will remain valid for the lifetime of the applicant unless revoked by the director of the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. The applicant is required to purchase the appropriate hunting/sporting licenses and stamps each year. It is also important to remember that once you purchase a hunting/sporting license, you must purchase subsequent licenses using the same customer identification number in order to maintain your crossbow status. PHYSICIANS PLEASE NOTE: The law allows individuals with a permanent disability preventing them from using traditional archery equipment to apply for a lifetime permit to hunt with a crossbow. Written certification from a physician attesting to the disability will be part of the application process. The applicant’s disability must be a permanent physical disability and as a result of that permanent physical disability, the person cannot operate a conventional or compound bow. The physician must provide a narrative in terms that a lay person can understand, as to how the permanent disability directly affects the applicant’s ability to operate a conventional or compound bow. If there is any question of the applicant meeting the criteria, the applicant is subject to a review by a medical review board at the expense of the applicant.

Bowfishing has a distinct niche in the evolution of the bow and arrow and in fishing, as one of several methods practiced by many and scattered indigenous cultures worldwide. In the past century, advances in technology, including the development of the compound bow, custom boat and lighting systems for night bowfishing, and improved information transfer have opened the sport to many people previously unable to participate in the sport at a satisfying level.

  • Dynamics of the Bow and Arrow
EN 4: Dynamics and Vibrations Brown University, Division of Engineering LABORATORY 1: DYNAMICS OF THE BOW AND ARROW Compound Bow Recurve Bow Long Bow SAFETY You will be testing three very powerful, full sized bows. The bows release a lot of energy very quickly, and can cause serious injury if they are used improperly. • Do not place any part of your body between the string and the bow at any time; • Stand behind the loading stage while the arrow is being released; • Do not pull and release the string without an arrow in place. If you do so, you will break not only the bow, but also yourself and those around you! 1. Introduction In Engineering we often use physical principles and mathematical analyses to achieve our goals of innovation. In this laboratory we will use simple physical principles of dynamics, work and energy, and simple analyses of calculus, differentiation and integration, to study engineering aspects of a projectile launching system, the bow and arrow. A bow is an engineering system of storing elastic energy effectively and exerting force on the mass of an arrow efficiently, to convert stored elastic energy of the bow into kinetic energy of the arrow. Engineering design of the bow and arrow system has three major objectives; (1) to store the elastic energy in the bow effectively within the capacity of the archer to draw and hold the bow comfortably while aiming, (2) to maximize the conversion of the elastic energy of the bow into the kinetic energy of the arrow, and (3) to keep the operation simple and within the strength of the bow and arrow materials system.

  • Disabled Archer and Judges Scas V1
Disabled Archery from a judges perspective. Thank you for asking me to do this presentation, I hope you learn something more about Para/Disabled archery, I certainly did, whilst putting this presentation together. slide 2 Disabled Archery , para Archery is a vast subject to cover in a short space of time, as it covers all the general rules of shooting and then add on the disability rules. As this is a vast subject I will keep to just a few basics for now, but if you have any questions throughout, please stop me and ask and we will cover it. As there have been an influx of archers with disabilities in recent years the rules have evolved to what they are today. Slide 3 Archery is a fully inclusive sport for all and this should be encouraged at all levels of our sport. The rules that have been put in to place for disabled archery, whether it be Para or disabled archery are in place to make sure everyone can compete at an equal level, without any beneficial advantage over one another. As judges we should not get overwhelmed by the task of following and enforcing the rules, we should be knowledgeable, calm, efficient and fundamentally fair. If you are in any doubt or concerns allow the archer to participate with their dispensation in accordance with the rules, any issues can be resolved afterwards. slide 4 AGB Rules Rule 1100. Disabled archers should be in a position to participate and compete to the best of their ability. If disabled archers are unable to comply with the rules of shooting then they will be allowed dispensation from that rule and any reasonable adjustments necessary will be made.
