Yet today in the early part of the 21st Century Lake Sturgeon populations overall enjoy much greater protection from over-exploitation, and have greater opportunities for recovery and sustainability throughout their range than they have experienced since the early 19th Century. A combination of factors including: increased attention over the last 30-40 years by state and provincial governments to effectively manage harvest and conduct proper assessments, increased public awareness of LS and their extreme vulnerability to overexploitation, improvements in assessment techniques, improvement in LS propagation techniques and stocking strategies, exponential expansion of population studies and research, increasing awareness and efforts to improve habitat and water quality, and the formation of the North American Sturgeon and Paddlefish and World Sturgeon Conservation Societies have all contributed to greater protection and recovery potential. While these are all positive steps that collectively should allow many LS populations to continue or start down the road to recovery, there are still waters and populations that may not be getting the attention needed to allow their recovery to occur. -

I evaluated the effect that this industry could have if it expands to include the Great Lakes by describing population characteristics of bowfin from Braddock Bay, Monroe Co., NY. Pectoral fin ray sections were used to age 51 bowfin, and back-calculated length-at-age data were used to fit the Von Bertalanffy growth model. Theoretical maximum length was estimated to be 753 mm TL, the coefficient of growth 0.262, and time at length zero -0.023 years. These values resemble populations described from the upper Mississippi River that grow slower and live longer than populations in the south, and therefore would be affected more by commercial harvesting. Aquaculture could provide an alternative to wild harvest, but no established protocols exist. I attempted captive breeding (tanks and ponds) and tested the acceptance of a commercial and a handmade artificial diet. The 55 bowfin did not respond well to captivity: no breeding was observed and most fish lost weight, but they lost significantly less weight on the handmade artificial diet (P = 0.007). -

Editorial by Morten Wilmann, Chairman Dear Judges, When writing this editorial we are just up front of the Olympics. For judges on duty for that event, it is starting to be a bit thrilling. Some athletes are saying that this “is only one event like other events”, and some may regard it as such (although I doubt if they manage). In spite of recent news about extensive doping in some sports and in some countries, I still think that the Olympics stands out as a very special event, well regarded and connected with “personal glory” for the winners. Archery in the Olympics 2016 – in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – takes place in the famous street of the Sanbodromo where the carnival regularly takes place, again a rather iconic place for archery. These are surroundings that may add some thrill to the competition, and your committee is confident that our judges will perform at the same top level as the archers – in spite of the possible stress of the moments. Pelkey’s Green Mountain Throwdown Bow Fishing Tournament Rules & Regulaons 1. All contestants must register before shoong. You must shoot your own fish. Registraon will end at 2pm on Friday June 4th. Tournament will conclude at 9am, Sunday, June 6th. 2. Final weigh-in is on Sunday, June 6 th at Pelkey’s Archery. Teams will be assigned weigh-in mes: All fish must be at Pelkey’s at your designated me to be eligible. 3. Parcipants must follow CDC and Vermont Covid-19 guidelines, including six foot social distancing rules during weigh-in. 4. All fish must be harvested on Lake Champlain. Fish entered must be shot alive. This is a carp only tournament. 5. Compound, recurve, longbow and crossbow are eligible as long as there is a reel and line aached to the arrow for retrieval. 6. Fish entries must be taken with compound, recurve, longbow, or crossbow and single point arrow only. 7. No fish points/arrows with explosives or other shocking devices will be allowed. 8. All arrows must have a line aached to it for retrieval. This line must be aached to a reel on the bow. 9. No snares, no dip nets, and no gigs will be allowed in boats. 10. Reported transferring of fish between teams will result in disqualificaon of all teams involved. At no me is one team’s fish to be placed in another team’s boat. 11. No baing or chumming of fish. 12. No unsportsmanlike conduct will be tolerated. Teams will keep a minimum distance of 25 yards from competors whenever possible. -

March 27, 2020 EDWARDS AQUIFER HABITAT CONSERVATION PLAN 2019 ANNUAL REPORT PAGE i THIS PAGE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK EDWARDS AQUIFER HABITAT CONSERVATION PLAN 2019 ANNUAL REPORT PAGE ii EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan The Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan (EAHCP) is the primary document that establishes the cooperative effort to protect the water of the Southern Segment of the Edwards Aquifer (“Edwards” or “Aquifer”) both for people in the region and the threatened and endangered species that inhabit the Aquifer, and aquatic spring environments whose water largely emanates from the Aquifer. This effort began when regional stakeholders and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) initiated the Edwards Aquifer Recovery Implementation Program (EARIP) in 2006. The Texas Legislature mandated participation in the process by the Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD), and Texas Water Development Board (TWDB). The EARIP planning group led to the creation of the process known as the EAHCP Program, which has now been fully transitioned from the EARIP. The EAHCP was completed in November 2012 and led to the approval of an Incidental Take Permit (ITP) under the federal Endangered Species Act of 1973 (ESA) issued in February 2013 by the USFWS to be effective in March 2013. The ITP has been amended once. This Annual Report has been prepared for submittal to the USFWS, as required by the ITP. -

Archery Notes Description: Archery is a sport that involves the use of a bow and a number of arrows. The bow is used to shoot the arrows at targets. We will be shooting at stationary targets. This is referred to as ‘Target Archery’. Equipment: Bow: Length and weight varies with the individual (18-25 lbs. for class use: 20-30 lbs. for club use) The style of the bows vary – straight or recurve in Fiberglass, wood, and metal. Arrows: length according to length of arms of the archer (24-28 “). Wood, fiberglass, aluminum, carbon/alloy composite, and carbon fiber. Targets (butts): circular or square targets made of dense Target Butt or buttress: Material that can sustain the impact of the arrow. Straw, Styrofoam, compressed cardboard. Bow strings: dacron- single or double loop according to the type of bow. The center part of the string is wolven thicker to accommodate the nocking of the arrow. This is referred to as the serving. Rubber finger tabs (rolls) are also attached to the serving. A single roller on the upper section and a double on the lower section. Target Faces: thick paper with concentric circles that vary in colour from the outside in. The target is divided into 5 different coloured sections. Safety tackle: Arm guard for the inside of the bow arm. Quivers: ‘Arrow Holder’. Used to organize and hold arrows for the archer. Stringing the bow: Step through method (push-pull) Instructions 1. Slide the top loop of your bow string over the nock and down the limb about halfway, or as far as the loop will allow. -
