FREEFACE THE MUSIC: A LIFE EXPOSED EBOOK Paul Stanley | 480 pages | 22 Sep 2016 | HarperCollins Publishers Inc | 9780062114051 | English | New York, United States Book Review: "Face the Music: A Life Exposed" Money flows. Sex is freely available. Drugs are rampant. Ripped off by a manager or an accountant. Record sales decline. Downward spiral into a chemically dependent depression. Learns from mistakes. Tries to make a comeback. Paul Stanley is one of the few artists who has avoided some of the trappings of most rock stars. I mean a LOT of sex with a lot of women. While many people dream of being a rock star, Stanley and Simmons were very strategic in their quest for fame and fortune. Their first band, Wicked Lester, was a hodgepodge of musical styles, and once the band recorded their one and only album, both Simmons and Stanley agreed Face the Music: A Life Exposed they hated what they heard. The result was the start of one of the most bombastic, theatrical, and hard-working bands of the s, KISS. He also bankrolled their early tours by charging expenses to his credit card, and introduced them to financial planners who would take care of their money. Face the Music: A Life Exposed knew there was something novel about KISS, and the combination of solid rock songs, an effects-heavy show, and the Face the Music: A Life Exposed of four guys in kabuki-like makeup would likely be a big hit with people who loved hard rock. The formula worked, and the result was a band that skyrocketed to the top with albums and shows that gave audiences a great value for their dollar — until the band started to implode toward the end of the s. Stanley and co-writer, Tim Mohr, tell a compelling story that contrasts Stanley Eisen — the son of Jewish immigrants who was born with a birth defect called microtia — with his alter ego, Paul Stanley. He was also deaf in that malformed ear. They were fans of symphonic music, and Eisen was enthralled by Beethoven and, of course, rock music at the time. One time, when his parents were away, Julia chased him around the house with a hammer, and when year-old Stanley locked himself in his room to protect himself from his sister, she took the hammer and started busting up the door to get in. When his parents returned home, they were angry with him about setting his sister off he also got a slap from his folks for good measure. Moreover, Stanley dispels the notion that Simmons is some kind of marketing genius. The majority of the book is about the four original members of the band and their rise and fall from fame —well, for a few years, anyway. They chose the latter, and made millions of dollars. But whatever success Face the Music: A Life Exposed had as an nostalgia act, they paid for in increased use of drugs and alcohol by Criss and Frehley. The process was long and difficult, but Ace and Peter were able to re-learn the songs and play at a level that would work for the reunion tour. However, with success came the old drug habits of Ace and Peter. It became unbearable to Stanley and Simmons, but they pushed on with a second tour that was even worse than the first. Overall, Face the Music is quite compelling. However, he also takes credit for taking the reins of the band and Face the Music: A Life Exposed them back to a successful career. However, that kind of tough shell his parents told him to grow, clearly spilled over to his professional side. Stanley mixes compelling personal revelations and gripping, gritty war stories that will surprise even the most steadfast member of the KISS Army. Born with a condition called Face the Music: A Life Exposed, he grew up partially deaf, with only one ear. But this instilled in him an inner drive to succeed in the most unlikely of pursuits: music. Raw and confessional, Stanley offers candid insights into his personal relationships, and the turbulent dynamics with his bandmates over the past four decades. And no one comes out unscathed—including Stanley himself. People say I was brave to write such a revealing book, but I wrote it because I needed to personally reflect on my own life. Get A Copy. Rock 'n roll has lost its mystery. Everything every rock star does is known on the Internet and TMZ etc. KISS was the most mysterious band the land, as well as being quite hot. Paul Stanley understands the magic of mystery in rock n' roll. Like about Paul's childhood. Paul's relationship w his family. And oh yeah, guess what? Paul parties. After all this time, Paul Stanley is cool. This book even had more than a few tear jerking moments. For me, it was quite touching to read about Bill Aucoin passing away. When Paul says " Goodbye" it is a sign of class and respect that even though he hadn't worked with Aucoin in years, Paul felt it appropriate to remember Bill in such a way Face the Music: A Life Exposed his contribution to the empire that is KISS. This extends to the original KISS members too. As much bad love is between the original band members, Paul makes sure to highlight the good times as well as the bad. He goes out of his way to detail the camaraderie evident in the original lineup, and explains how important that was to the success of KISS. This is one of the best books I've ever read. KISS fan or not, this is a well written book with a great story. It is a pleasure to read. View all 3 comments. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this book. I laughed out loud a few times. Paul Stanley's view on family, life, his career was admirable. View 1 comment. Paul Stanley had written his autobiography. I mean At 60 something, he's still hot! I learned a lot of things while reading this book. I'll explain it for you. He loves his band, KISS, more Face the Music: A Life Exposed anything. He will do anything to protect it and keep it alive. When others in the band fail his expectations and don't produce, he will carry the load. He is the standard bearer of KISS. KISS might not still be around, alive and kicking if Paul Stanley wasn't nurturing and building upon it through the decades. I never realized that even his Face the Music: A Life Exposed partner and ally Gene Simmons let his attentions stray from the band and let Paul bear the extra responsibilities. I always loved Paul Stanley, for his good looks, musical talent, and intelligence; but I respect him even more now after reading this book. He says in all his interviews that he wrote this for his children and also to inspire people. He was successful in this achievement. Paul reveals that he was born deaf on one side, without an ear. This deformity haunted him throughout his childhood and adolescence. How unlikely that a paunchy teenager with one ear would wind up as one of the most recognizable and successful rock stars in the world, loved by women galore. How did he do this? He believed that all he had to do was want it and work for it. Such was his drive and endurance that not achieving this Face the Music: A Life Exposed even an option. In fact, when he feels he's too old and unable to perform the duties of KISS's Starchild, he would have no qualms having another capable person wear his makeup and take over the role. Paul covers the many facets of his life: KISS, romances, marriage and divorce, cooking, painting, performing in "Phantom of the Opera," to the fierce love of his four children. Throughout it all, he was just searching for happiness and fulfillment. He ultimately found that with his beloved wife Erin and his kids. McCartney was the biggest cheerleader of The Beatles. He would have done anything to keep them going, he loved his band so much. I see the same leadership qualities and positive force in Paul Stanley. View all 10 comments.
