And the band played on pdf Continue Music fans were sad to learn that Tom Petty passed away at the age of 66 on Monday night. The musician became famous for his successful career as a solo artist, but worked with several bands, including The Heartbreakers. Who the Heartbreakers were Tom Petty showed they were more than a band. They were the longest-running group Petty had worked with, playing together since 1976. Since then, Petty has released more than a dozen albums, either in collaboration with The Heartbreakers or prominently. Together, the band is recognizable for some of Petty's favorite hits, including Mary Jane's Last Dance and American Girl. The introduction to American Girl has probably stuck in your head since the first time you heard it, but for some reason, you just never get tired of it. You have Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to thank for that. Petty also collaborated with the following bands: Mudcrutch (1970-1975), the supergroup The Traveling Willburys (1988-1990). On Petty's solo albums, The Heartbreakers served as studio musicians, and were additionally supported by Petty's collaborator stable. This stable famously included musicians like Jeff Lynne and George Harrison, who were also two of the petty bandmates in Willburys Travel. Petty recorded with Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks and countless other industry icons, but The Heartbreakers were his constant. According to Petty's official website, the 2017 Heartbreakers included Campbell, Trench, bassist Ron Blair, rhythm guitarist Scott Thurston and percussionist Steve Ferrone. Ferrone joined in 1994 after drummer Stan Lynch left to work on other projects.

ROBERT QUINERenowned punk rock guitarist http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/news/local/8875187.htm?template=contentModules/print... Posted on Wed, Jun. 09, 2004 ROBERT QUINERenowned punk rock guitarist NEW YORK — Robert Quine, a versatile punk rock guitarist who appeared on albums by Lou Reed, Marianne Faithfull and Tom Waits, has died. He was 61. Police found Quine dead in his apartment Saturday, said James Marshall, a friend. The medical examiner’s office did not immediately release the cause of death, but a note found with his body indicated suicide, police said. Marshall said he believes Quine died May 31. “He was an extraordinary mixture of taste, intelligence and rock ‘n’ roll abilities, coupled with major technique and a scholar’s memory for every decent guitar lick ever played under the musical sun,” Reed said in a statement. Quine’s playing appeared on the 1977 Richard Hell and the Voidoids’ album “Blank Generation,” as well as 1979’s “Destiny Street.” Quine also appeared on Reed’s “The Blue Mask” in 1982 and Tom Waits’ “Rain Dogs” in 1985. In the 1990s, Quine played with such artists as Matthew Sweet and Lloyd Cole. Quine also worked with Brian Eno, Ikue Mori, John Zorn and They Might Be Giants. Quine, who was older than most of his punk-rock peers and nearly bald, typically wore button-down shirts and sport coats. He once said he looked like a “deranged insurance salesman.” He was born in Akron, Ohio, and graduated from Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. He received a law degree from Washington University law school in St.

  • Detroit Rock & Roll by Ben Edmonds for Our Purposes, The
"KICK OUT THE JAMS!" Detroit Rock & Roll by Ben Edmonds For our purposes, the story of Detroit rock & roll begins on September 3, 1948, when a little-known local performer named John Lee Hooker entered United Sound Studios for his first recording session. Rock & roll was still an obscure rhythm & blues catchphrase, certainly not yet a musical genre, and Hooker's career trajectory had been that of the standard-issue bluesman. A native of the Mississippi Delta, he had drifted north for the same reason that eastern Europeans and Kentucky hillbillies, Greeks and Poles and Arabs and Asians and Mexicans had all been migrating toward Michigan in waves for the first half of the 20th Century. "The Motor City it was then, with the factories and everything, and the money was flowing," Hooker told biographer Charles Shaar Murray." All the cars were being built there. Detroit was the city then. Work, work, work, work. Plenty work, good wages, good money at that time."1 He worked many of those factories, Ford and General Motors among them, and at night he plied the craft of the bluesman in bars, social clubs and at house parties. But John Lee Hooker was no ordinary bluesman, and the song he cut at the tail of his first session, "Boogie Chillen," was no ordinary blues. Accompanied only by the stomp of his right foot, his acoustic guitar hammered an insistent pattern, partially based on boogie-woogie piano, that Hooker said he learned from his stepfather back in Mississippi as "country boogie." Informed by the urgency and relentless drive of his Detroit assembly line experiences, John Lee's urban guitar boogie would become a signature color on the rock & roll palette, as readily identifiable as Bo Diddley's beat or Chuck Berry's ringing chords.

  • Richard Hell» Palabra Y Música En El Ateneo De Madrid
ATENEO DE MADRID Calle del Prado, 21 Madrid 28019 Ateneo de Madrid. Prensa.

  • Hell Remembers Quine
RollingStone.com http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story?id=6128328&pageid=rs.Home&pageregion=&rnd=1... Hell Remembers Quine Head Voidoid talks about his fallen guitar player Quine and Hell in '76 "Part of being a guitar player -- ninety-nine percent of it -- is being obsessive enough to spend thousands of hours listening to records and practicing," Robert Quine told me in 2001. "I've always believed in immersing yourself in good music. Sooner or later, if you have any personality or musical intelligence of your own, you'll come up with your own thing." Quine -- who was found dead in his Manhattan home on June 5th, an apparent suicide at sixty-one -- was thrilling proof of his own theory. Beginning with his epochal solo on Richard Hell and the Voidoids' 1976 single "Blank Generation," Quine challenged the accepted low-brow standards of punk and garage-rock guitar, inventing a singular fusion of terrorism and tonality rooted in his lifelong loves of 1950s rockabilly, jazz and the Velvet Underground. He looked more like a pro bono lawyer than a guitar hero (Quine actually held a degree in law from Washington University in Missouri), and he only made two albums under his own name, both collaborations: 1981's Escape, with guitarist Jody Harris, and 1984's Basic, with ex-Material drummer Fred Maher. But with the Voidoids on the mighty 1977 Blank Generation album, as the second guitarist on Lou Reed's 1982 LP, The Blue Mask, and as a sideman on records by artists as varied as Tom Waits, Lydia Lunch, Scritti Politti, John Zorn, Lloyd Cole and Matthew Sweet, Quine elevated and transformed the songs of others with a pure fury and incisive melodicism.
