Creating Links The manager allows web editors a quick and easy way to create , anchors, and email links.

Hyperlink to a Different A hyperlink is a link that takes readers to another website or another page on the current website. To create a hyperlink that directs readers to a different website: 1. Type and then highlight the words you want to be the hyperlink. This is called your Link Text. Make sure your link text tells the reader where the link will take them or what type of information they are accessing by clicking the link. For example: “For more information about athletics, visit the SPS Athletics website.” Never use “click here” as your link text. 2. Click the Hyperlink Manager (earth with a chain link).

3. Type or paste the URL of the website you want the link to point to. 4. Select New for the Target. 5. Type a that explains where the link is taking the reader. If your link text already describes where the link is going, your tooltip can simply be “opens in a new window”. This let’s a person using assistive technology know that the content will open in a new in their browser. 6. Click OK.

To create a hyperlink that directs readers to a different page on the same website: 1. Type and then highlight the words you want to be the hyperlink. This is called your Link Text. Make sure your link text tells the reader where the link will take them or what type of information they are accessing by clicking the link. For example: “For more information about athletics, visit the Athletics page.” Never use “click here” as your link text. 2. Click the Hyperlink Manager button (earth with a chain link).

3. Type or paste the URL of the webpage you want the link to point to. 4. Select None for the Target. 5. Type a Tooltip that explains where the link is taking the user. If your link text already describes where the link is going then your tooltip can be something like: “more information about athletics” or “go to the Athletics page”. 6. Click OK.

4. Type a Name for the anchor. 5. Click OK. 6. Type and then highlight the name of the anchor at the top of the page. 7. Click Hyperlink Manager button. Make sure you are on the Hyperlink tab. 8. Select the name of the anchor you created from the Existing Anchor drop-down . • Note: If the anchor you created does not appear in the Existing Anchor drop-down menu, Click Cancel, then click Publish, and then go back into edit mode and start at step 7. 9. Type a Tooltip that explains where the link will take you. 10. Click OK. Email An email link allows users to click on the email and it will open their default email program. To create an email link: 1. Type and then highlight the email address. 2. Click the Hyperlink Manager button (earth with a chain link).

3. Click the Email tab at the top.
