6 OKLAHOMA CITY MARCEL MARTINEZ, DIRECTOR OF CULINARY VIBRANT DISHES & UNIQUE RECIPES As Director of Culinary, Marcel Martinez oversees all aspects of the culinary department at Oklahoma City Convention Center.

Director of Culinary, Chef Marcel Martinez is renowned for his passion for sustainability and seasonality, crafting dishes that are vibrant, delicious and cost-effective. He takes delight in the quality and presentation of the guest experience, from small dining experiences to banquets for 5,000+ guests.

Born in New York with his parents from Puerto Rico and spending much of his career in South Florida, Chef Marcel has had the pleasure to have worked his way up in some of South Florida’s most prestigious resorts and restaurants. He has worked in all aspects of the culinary field including Purchasing Coordinator at the Loew’s Hotel and Chef de Partie at The Ritz Carlton of Key Biscayne. There he mastered the art of designing banquet menus with mass appeal, managing all areas of kitchen functions and staff development.

Chef Marcel returned to his Banquet Chef roots and worked at the Westin Diplomat in Hollywood, JW Marriott Marquis in Miami. His love for bringing the private dining experience to a banquet setting, then brought him to SAVOR the exclusive food and beverage partner for the 600,000 sq. ft LEED Gold Certified Greater Ft. Lauderdale / Broward County Convention Center. Chef Marcel’s Five-Star culinary training has elevated the standards for food quality and presentation, not typical of a convention center. Chef Marcel has been given the opportunity to remodel and take over the Cox Convention Center and open the new Oklahoma City Convention Center as Director of Culinary.

Chef Marcel enjoys all things water sports to include boating, snorkeling and fishing. He currently resides in Oklahoma City while his wife Laura and daughter Luciana remain in their Miami home while Chef Marcel completes the opening process in Oklahoma and then returns to open the new Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale.
