May 2018 1. Seminars, Workshops, and Humanitarian Activities on International Day of Light 2018 Activities in Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) Tangerang, Indonesia UPH celebrated International Day of Light 2018 through a Series of seminars, workshops and humanitarian activities. This event was started on 16 May 2018, and been the very first celebration of a big day to celebrate the important the role of light and light-based technologies for life, science, culture, art, education, welfare, etc (popular with acronym IDL2018). A movement steered by many well-respective organizations like ICTP, IEEE Photonics Society, SPIE, OSA, AIP, APS, universities, companies, etc. spreads a global activities from seminars, talk-shows, exhibitions, outreaches, etc. with light as the central theme. The www.lightday.org, an official website for IDL2018 lists more than 800 activities in 87 countries. For Indonesia, the website lists IDL2018 celebrations in Bandung, Surabaya, and Tangerang. The celebration in Tangerang was organized by Dept. Electrical Eng., Universitas Pelita Harapan (EE UPH). The activities in UPH were endorsed by IEEE Indonesia Section, OSA Indonesia Section, and The Indonesian Optical Society. The IDL2018 celebration in UPH consists of a series of activities under a big theme of “Lucis pro Nobis”, a Latin for “Light for Us”. The activities were organized by Electrical Engineering Student Union under its yearly event called as Electro Mega Project (EMP) led by 2nd year EE student, Budi Khusnandar. The activities started by delivering 3 parallel workshops in Poris Indah Junior (SMP Poris Indah) and Senior High Schools (SMA Poris Indah), Tangerang. For the 1st year junior high school students, workshop on “Learning Optics through Experiments” were delivered by Julinda Pangaribuan, a lecturer of EE UPH. In this workshop the youths were amazed by seeing the world differently through an own- made kaleidoscope constructed of pieces of broken compact disks arranged in a tube taken from used toilet paper roll. Through this activity, the students learned about reflection and scattering of light.

A group of 1st year Poris Indah Junior High School (SMP Poris Indah) students amazed by how they can see the world differently through reflections of light in an own-made kaleidoscope constructed using used materials. The second workshop was “Fun with Optics”, where using simple off-the-shelf stuffs from local DIY store and laser pointer, Marincan Pardede, a lecturer of EE UPH showed how students can learn the geometrical optics principles of lenses using an own-made smoke-box, learn how rainbow happens through dispersion and multiple reflection visualized by laser light reflection in water inside a beaker glass, learn how reddish sky during sunset and sunrise happens by scattering of white light in water added with few drops of milk. This activity was given to the last year students of the junior high school. The third workshop was “Make Your Own Solar Lamp”, delivered by Henri Uranus, a lecturer of EE UPH. This workshop was aimed for senior high school students, where students learn how to harvest electricity from sun light using small solar panel, and construct their own circuit to control battery charging and automatic night-on lamp. The unique aspect is that the lamp bulb is made of used mineral water bottle. The students were grouped into 3 to 4 person to construct, test, and troubleshoot the circuit under supervision of 1 EE UPH student. In the near future, the fabricated solar lamp, after tested and packed by UPH students, will be donated people living in remote area in Papua, an area in Indonesia where electricity is still a luxury, where more than 50% of families do not have access to electricity.

A group of Poris Indah Senior High School (SMA Poris Indah) students feel happy as their constructed solar powered night-lamp works as expected.

On 28 May 2018, the activity continued by official opening of the EMP, where Henri Uranus, a lecturer of EE UPH delivered a seminar entitled “Let There be Light: Lucis Pro Nobis” where UPH students were exposed to the role of light in many modern-day applications, from telecommunications, lighting, welfare, energy, education, medicine, industrial activities, archeology, etc.

Henri Uranus, a lecturer of EE UPH delivered a seminar of Light role for modern-day life for UPH’s students. Additionally, a workshop on making a blinking keychain were delivered by EE students on 31 May 2018 to their fellow students from other departments.

A blinking keychain made by non-EE students under supervision of EE students. Students of non-EE departments were amazed by having their key-chains work. June 2018. 1. Laser Application Seminar (Series of seminars, workshops and humanitarian activities - IDL2018) Seminar on laser applications was held on 4 June 2018, delivered by Marincan Pardede for UPH students, where students learn applications of lasers from spectroscopy, material processing, to medicine.

Marincan Pardede, a lecturer of EE UPH, delivered a seminar on Laser Applications for UPH students. 2. Humanitarian Activity (Series of seminars, workshops and humanitarian activities - IDL2018) On 9 June, 2018 a group of EE UPH’s student led by Josavan Ezekhiel Taniara, erected poles of village street light constructed using affordable materials for garbage sorter (in Bahasa Indonesia: “pemulung”) community in Trash Dump of Bintara, Bekasi. Have you ever imagined living in a trash dump, in a small simple hut made of used materials, where infrastructure is minimal? There are actual families living in this condition, in many places, including The Bintara Trash Dump, Bekasi, Indonesia. Despite living among garbage, these families are in fact heroes for environment, since they sort the garbage to find out stuffs that can be recycled. Plastics, papers, metals, electronics will be sorted out, sent to the recycle factory get their life cycle extended, and hence reduces the amount of end garbage. This profession is called “pemulung” in Bahasa Indonesia, which literally means “garbage sorter/collector” who plays instrumental role in recycle business process. In this solar lamp system, a small solar panel will harvest energy during day time, charge a 10.000 mAh Li battery bank, and the system will automatically turn on a 3 W LED during night. The system is able to light up for more than 12 hours a day and already employs battery overcharge and overdischarge protection. This humanitarian activity is conducted by making and installing simple, small light poles called as Penerangan Jalan Kampung (Village Street Light) using affordable materials, at a fraction of cost of ordinary street light pole. The system was designed by Henri Uranus, a lecturer of EE UPH, using affordable materials, constructed and deployed by a group of students led by Josavan Ezekhiel Taniara, a 2nd year EE UPH student. The execution of this humanitarian activity was assisted by LDD/Lembaga Daya Dharma, a charity institution of Archdiocese of Jakarta, which is coincidentally running several humanitarian activities there as well. After several times of circuit redesigns, revisions, and testing in UPH campus, 4 solar lamp poles were finally erected in The Bintara Trash Dump, Bekasi, on 9 June 2018 in several spots which are usually very dark at night. The humanitarian

activity helps the community of 200 families for their activities at night and will be a pilot project for further implementations in other places in the future. The area which are usually very dark at night, now get small lights at certain spots from the poles.

EE students of UPH erected 4 simple village street light poles for garbage sorter (“pemulung”) community in Trash Dump of Bintara, Bekasi. These series of IDL2018 activities outreaches around 100 high school students, 100 UPH students, and the humanitarian activity reaches a community of around 200 families.

Before presenting the main topic, she presented the information about IEEE to the participants to show activities in IEEE Indonesia Section. Professor Dr. Ir. Fitri Yuli Zulkifli, ST., MSc, IPM, SMIEEE currently are Chairs of the IEEE Indonesia Section in Indonesia since 2017. After presenting the IEEE that was established in Indonesia for 30 years, she introduced her subject about Terahertz. As we know, Tera is a size that is between giga and peta. Terahertz can now be used for health monitoring, food imaging and hidden weapons, wlan / wpan, on-chip communication and secure communication industries. The discussion is more specific for Terahertz time domain spectroscopy, which is useful for the detection of explosive and hidden weapons, quality control of the food industry, drugs for the detection of cancer, low harmful photoionization in biological tissues and capacity of penetration through various materials with little loss. The Terahertz case studies are about to detect breast cancer. With a frequency of 0.312 terahertz for the absorption of the breast cancer coefficient, the difference between the absorption coefficient of breast tissue affected by cancer and normal tissue is small. In this case, use the antenna parameters, the antenna must be placed directly in front of the body. The radiation pattern is directional with the main lobe at 0 degrees to 5 degrees with gain > 4.8 dB. With this sample case, the conclusion about terahertz technology is about the potential of future technology. THZ-TDS has the potential to recognize material types in addition to image processing. The antennas can be a source of Terahertz in the future. Terahertz technology is a potential for health monitoring like the detection of breast cancer. After the three keynote speakers present each topic, the activity continues with a photo session and then they have lunch. After lunch, the activity continued with a parallel session.

2. IEEE Indonesia Section Donated Solar-Powered Portable Energy Storage (TaLis) to DRPM Universitas Indonesia for Emergency Response during Disaster On Monday, December 17, 2018, the IEEE Indonesia Section represented by Prof. Dr. Fitri Yuli Zulkifli, S.T, M.Sc., IPM donated two sets of Solar-Powered Portable Energy Storage called TaLis to Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng, Director of the Directorate of Research and Community Engagement Universitas Indonesia (DRPM UI). TaLis is portable energy storage device based on lithium ion

battery and is developed by Dr. Chairul Hudaya from Department of Electrical Engineering Universitas Indonesia. During the disaster, electricity supply often suffers from blackout due to the destroyed power generation and grids. In other hand, paramedics and volunteers who perform emergency response really need the electricity supply to run the medical or first-aid devices, lighting and other applications. To charge TaLis, a set of PV panel equipped with solar charge controller is developed so it could still be operated even if there is no electricity supply from conventional grid. TaLis consists of 18650-type cylindrical battery with total energy of ~ 700 Wh, resulted from 13S5P (65 pcs), BMS 30A, Inverter of 300 W (42-54.6VDC to 220 VAC ), DC to DC Converter 200W (48 VDC to 12 VDC), and charging input of 48V. According to DRPM UI, a voluntarily team will be assigned to Palu next January 2019. The donation from IEEE Indonesia Section would be favorable to the team in helping local people recover from the disaster.

The spacecrafts are to be launched in cluster at the end of 2020, are designed so as to cover Indonesia territory in approximately every one- hour, will serve for passing through the signals coming from thousands of sensors dispersed in the area to report any symptoms for disasters such as tsunamis, earthquakes,

tidal waves, volcano data etc. , in virtually real-time mode. The Team will also develop the networking ground segment associated with the NEWSAT including the sensors, radio transmissions, and Hub Station(s), the latter of which will receive, collect and process the data acquired by the sensors. The information deduced from the system will serve for a DSS to the Disaster Authority. The spacecraft itself is an heritage of 56 Kg LAPAN A2 bus which has been successfully implemented and operated currently. This program is very much expected to be realized, in view of helping the Indonesian Authority in improving its effectiveness in mitigating and precautioning the disasters. As a matter of fact, Indonesia is a well- known deeply disaster-prone country as it lays in the so called “Ring-of Fire” region, and therefore, the Joint Chapter has initiated such a program as an implementation to our social responsibility. In developing the NEWSAT, the Team will mobilize young engineers and professionals, coming from LAPAN Satellite Center, Telkom R&D Center, and Universities. We believe this could be a challenge for the students as well. The Internet is not a complimentary issue. However, human life already integrated with it as their primary needs. Finally, we hoped that this activity could bring more positive energy as their interest and improve their abilities as well in technology.

1. YP track at IEEE Region 10 SYWL Congress

Date : 30 Aug – 2 Sept 2018

Time : 08.30 a.m.

Location : Prime Plaza Hotel, Sanur, Bali

Attendees : 300+ delegates from 51 Sections in Asia Pasific Region + 7 IEEE Regions

Description : The biennial event of the Asia-Pacific region was held from 30th August to 2nd September this year. The flagship congress looked upon by every enthusiast volunteer, had a turnaround of 260+ delegates - around 30% of which was by the Young Professionals. Unlike the usual 2-days track, the YP centric track this time was fabricated for inducing a more focused brainstorming on day-1 while on day-2 exposure to more communities and instances where YPs

can further contribute in addition to self-development tracks were in the focus area. The tracks were planned with a goal to cover myriad topics, across all verticals that could nourish the experience for YPs. The day commenced with the IEEE Region 10 Young Professionals Coordinator - Nivas Ravichandran, sharing the Region 10 Young Professionals’ current targets and achievements, newer goals, and the delight to have had established YP community in 17 sections across Asia- Pacific under his leadership. To diversify the experience of the delegates further, we had Rafal Sliz, Global Young Professionals Chair from Region 8. His insights and one-to- one interactions hold not only the sharing of inter-regional practices and cultures but also the challenges that each region and YP as whole faces and the efforts they put up to overcome these. Continued panel discussion with the IEEE Region 10 Director-Elect 2018, Akinori Nishihara. Knowing his perspective on the significance of YP in IEEE, expectations and how he can cultivate our growth was a key takeaway for delegates as it motivated them to define a path as a volunteer and know the kind of support we can get in raising the bars higher. With a view of broadening the horizon for all sections, the track included sessions on ‘Best Practices’ - progressive and unconventional - that was followed by sections of Bangalore, Tokyo, Bangladesh, and Region 2; represented by Abhishek Appaji, Mayumi Suzuki, ARM Abdullah Rocky, and Jeff Eker respectively. To boost up the interactions and networking, the YPs had a workshop led by Flavia Dinca, Global Young Professionals Vice-Chair and moderated by the Global YP team attendees, viz. Overall, the Young Professionals track tried to deliver a brewing experience to the volunteers. From networking among Region 10 to across Region 8 and Region 2, from brainstorming about their paths in IEEE to career development. YP Award was announced on Awarding night on 31st Aug, 2018. Dr. Kurnianingsih from Indonesia Sections is one of recipients of YP Award in Academician. B.4.3. Section level student activities:

IEEE Indonesia Student Branch Attending SYWL 2018 Congress IEEE Indonesia Section had supported 10 Student members from 10 universities to attend R10 SYWL Congress in Bali. One of the delegates is Fathimah Rahimullah, IEEE Student Chair of Universitas Indonesia and she made a report as follow. Being a delegate in the Region 10 SYWL 2018 congress was a real eye opener for me personally, as it was also the first congress that I have ever attended. The congress portrayed Region 10 as it really is, a melting pot of cultures around the Asia Pacific area. Amazingly all these differences were gathered together because of our passion in science, technology, and working together with our skill to improve humanity. For me this congress created a lot of beginnings. The beginning of my participation in future congress and conferences. Also, the beginning of a lot of friendships which was acquired during the four days filled with networking and meeting new people. These people that I met came from diverse backgrounds from different stages of education. But these things were not barriers. These gaps and differences were great because it means that there were more knowledge and experiences to be shared. As an undergraduate student, I was not used to interact with people from higher stages of education. It was not rare to see professors and students from different universities and countries talking to each other. I was also surprised to have known that a lot of the delegates were already taking doctoral studies. I learned a lot from these experienced seniors which inspired me to continue my education. Overall, this congress was a joyful experience for me. A lot of things were shared such as knowledge, experience in managing IEEE student branches, and plans for both my future and also the future of IEEE. I hope that all the connections started here will last therefore we can collaborate with each of our own expertise to contribute to the development of humanity and society.

B.8 Industry Relations

As the host of R10 SYWL Congress in Bali, therefore Indonesia Section has many advantages related to industry relations. During this congress, there are industry track.

IEEE Region 10 SYWL Congress 2018 Industry Track On August 30 – September 2018, IEEE Region 10 held a SYWL (Student, Young Professionals, Women in Engineering, Life Member) Congress 2018 in Bali, Indonesia. The theme of the Congress was “Collaborative Innovation for Society Development”. The event divided its participants into several tracks, namely academic track, student track, women in engineering track and young professional/industry track. In the industry track, series of workshop and panel discussion was held such as:

1. Speech from Oracle by Damian Hass

In his speech, Damian Hass (Director of Oracle) discussed the philanthropic activities of the Oracle Corporation (an American multinational computer technology corporation headquartered in Redwood Shores, California, USA) and the Oracle Academy is one of them. The Oracle Academy provides a complete portfolio of software, curriculum, hosted technology, faculty training, support, and certification resources to K-12, vocational, and higher education institutions for teaching use, and particularly for free, which is not known by many academic institutions.

2. How to Bridge the Gap between Academia, Industry, and Government by Ery Punta (Telkom Indonesia)

The speaker stated that government must play the role of facilitator and assure a beneficial climate where industry can flourish and have access to world markets. Industry must avail itself of all resources and promote cooperative research in order to avoid duplication of effort and expense. However, industry should also support academia as a resource. Finally, academia needs to support industry in return by improvement in the quality of education and modernization of curricula. The industry consortium is helping in this respect. Curricula, equipment, and instruments required to perform research at universities must be upgraded as part of this effort. As conclusion of this panel discussion, strategies on how government can play a role in supporting what the needs of industry and can be supported by the academia, may be different for each region/countries.

3. ICT Strategy and update towards Industry 4.0 readiness (Satriyo Dharmanto)

In his speech, Satriyo Dharmanto (CEO & Founder at Multikom; Consultant of the Public Policy Strategy, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Republic Indonesia) stated that The Disruptive Technologies are really happen. For example, Uber is currently become the World’s Largest Taxi Company, with owns no car. Facebook is currently become the World’s Largest Media Company with produces no content, and Netflix is currently become the World’s Largest Movie house, with owns no cinema. Digital Transformation will force many industries to change their operating paradigm, from being manpower-intensive to being technology-centric. The Indonesian government officially launched the roadmap called "Making Indonesia 4.0" it includes major innovations in the digital technology, biology and hardware automations, and also implies that cyber-physical systems can make their own basic decisions, hence becoming increasingly self-ruling.

4. Building up a powerful social media profile (Nivas Ravichandran)

In his speech, Nivas Ravichandran (IEEE R10 Strategic Planning (2017-18)) guided on how in building a strong social media profile it was important to first Target the platforms that fit our objective and how these platforms could then help in presenting us the way we want ourselves to be seen. In explaining how he utilizes social media as per current scenarios, Nivas focused more

on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter as the grassroots of building a strong social media profile. While keeping these profiles clean and posting content relevant to their purpose remained a common practice for him, he made sure volunteers understand how interacting with people across these must vary. Few other key takeaways from the session were to have an updated bio, a positive active participation and defining our goals via profile taglines. In keeping a check on growth, on which the awareness is low, he enlightened on how the social selling index or profile completion status could be monitored. A slew of interesting questions, an overwhelming feedback and healthy discussions following his talk bespoke of how insightful and productive this was to the volunteers.

5. Panel discussion: Technologies and industrial needs of 4th Industrial Revolution; are our students and young professionals ready to Join the pace?

In this panel discussion, Amit Kumar (CEO of BioAxis DNA Research Centre, India) as moderator discussed about the needs of 4th Industrial Revolution in technology and industrial sector. He stated that there used to be a time when tech companies were truly reluctant to understand the impact of their services and products on the society, usually they deferred to undertake responsibility how their offerings (products, services) are being utilized. Current time and policies have seen a real change in thought process about the impacts of emerging technologies (Especially after GDPR and issues with giants like FB and Google). Most of the processes are being automated and Industry is far cautious about their Products, services along with their employees and the way they operate and undertake the projects. ML, AI, Cyber physical systems have taken over most of the things be it banking or health care. Their is a high possibility and threat for our young minds and they could be left behind not aware about Industrial policies, their operations and be serious towards updating and understanding the highly changing industrial operations in this revolutionary changing tech era. With the above background by Amit, following key points were taken up : the problems and issues of the fast changing technology world, opportunity of 4th Industrial revolution and prediction of increasing the unemployment base in 4th Industry Revolution.

6. Solusi247, from scratch to big data champion by Beno Kunto Pradekso Beno Kunto Pradekso (CEO of Solusi 247) opened the plenary session. He delivered a speech about use of big data analysis. In many IEEE activities, we invited speakers from industries so they will be aware of IEEE and in future become IEEE members.

D.3 Any innovative ideas to make IEEE more creative and value added for sustaining the membership retention and recruitment goals.

IEEE Indonesia Section will continue to organize several activities in the Universities in collaboration with the Industries, research center and the government, to strengthening the awareness of the Indonesia people, about IEEE Indonesia Section, the activities, and the benefit for humanity.

The activities are including some activities in eastern part of Indonesia, when the infrastructure is still limited and technology are not implement properly yet.

Continuing organize several activities that can attract more student to participate and give their active contribution. Special Interest Group in Renewable Energy becomes the most innovative idea.

D.4 Business Plan for Sustainable Growth and Financial Stability There are several Business plans that we have discussed in executive committee and advisory committee IEEE Indonesia Section for sustainable growth and financial stability.

 With many conferences conducted in Indonesia and technically co sponsored by IEEE Indonesia Section, there is an idea to implement a certain amount of profit share for Indonesia Section. Until now, we have not implemented this, and only expect donation from these conferences without any obligations.  Bali is still the favorite place to hold conferences and international events in Indonesia. With this exotic place in Indonesia, we plan in the future, more IEEE events can be held in Bali Indonesia  Promote IEEE to other Islands out of Java and Sumatera Island. We have not promoted IEEE to Borneo and Papua Island. We have coordinator for east part of Indonesia but it is still farthest Selebes Island. This is still very potential for the future.  Conduct workshops and seminars that are with hot topics and participants must register and pay to attend these activities  Cooperate and collaborate with other potential organizations to strengthen the activities and promote IEEE to these organizations.
