ESA STUDY CONTRACT REPORT ESA Contract No: Subject: Contractor: ESA ITT Number Current and Future Tech- Distributed Systems Group, AO/3-12280/07/NL/CB nologies for Collaborative Vienna University of Tech- Working Environments nology ESA CR() No: No of volumes: 1 Contractor’s Reference: This Volume No: 1 TEUN Abstract: This document reports the final, detailed result of the study on current and future technologies for collaborative working environments (CWEs). The goal of this study is to analyze current CWEs and whether they and their future trends are suitable for large- scale multinational organizations. To this end, we have analyzed the structure of large-scale organizations in general, and of ESA in particular, with respect to organization, geographical distribution, and IT environments. Requirements for CWEs used in collaborative work are presented. Based on an initial list of criteria given by ESA, we have revised and extended the list to introduce a comprehensive set of criteria for evaluating CWEs. The state-of-the- art CWEs are discussed and classified. We have selected 15 representative CWE products and evaluated and compared them in detail. From the evaluation and comparison of CWE products, we have presented our findings of current issues and future trends of CWEs. In particular, existing products provide many features required by large-scale and multinational organizations but those features are not well-integrated into a single system. Due to the complexity of collaborative work within those organizations, often many CWEs are used in parallel and it is not easy to integrate those CWEs together. The work described in this report was done under ESA Contract.

Abstract Storing Personal Information Management (PIM) data is not trivial, because of the variety in content types. Existing PIM storage systems have shortcomings in performance, data concistency and/or concurrency. In this thesis, we propose several optimisations and test them in Akonadi, KDE’s new central PIM data access manager. The optimisations include using the D-Bus protocol for trans- mitting short commands and notifications and an IMAP-compatible protocol for data access and modification. The PIM data is kept in its native format, but compressed and split up into separate, frequently-used parts for increased per- formance. Both the synthetic and use case based evaluation results show that the proposed modifications perform well and help maintain data consistency in Akonadi. i Preface Welcome to the thesis belonging to the final project that concludes my studies of Computer Science at the University of Twente! • "A Competence Centre Requires Skills and Competences"
"A competence centre requires skills and competences" Hungarian Competence Centre sets up localised knowledgebase to overcome language barrier Author: Adrian Offerman The main goal of the Hungarian E-Governmental Free Software Competence Centre is to reduce license costs and to widen the use of open source software in public administration. The Hungarian public administration currently uses a lot of custom-made software, resulting in an application landscape of isolated islands with very little interoperability. This prevents the creation of larger, more complex e-government services. "pen source code and open standards will allow public agencies to ta#e back control over their locked-in data and extend e-government services. The language barrier, however constitutes a serious problem affecting the use of open source software. Hungarians in general have few foreign language skills ma#ing it hard for $T managers and procurement specialists to get acquainted with open source software and connect with international developer communities. To improve this situation the people from the Competence Centre have created an online open source #nowledgebase describing commonly used software solutions and case studies. This allows public servants in Hungary to get acquainted with open source packages in their native language. The Hungarian Competence Centre is very different from other competence centres. &ll its members including the project manager, come from the open source community. &lthough they have had to learn the ways of public administrators the diversity and hands-on experience of the team members has allowed them to find new opportunities for open source, to ta#e an active part in pilot projects and to disseminate their #nowledge and lessons learnt.

  • Software Para El Trabajo En Grupo Egroupware

  • Open Source Alternatives to Windows on Servers
OPEN SOURCE ALTERNATIVES TO WINDOWS ON SERVERS There are several good reasons to consider running a server with Free and Open Source Software. It's frequently significantly less expensive than Windows, the software tends to be more secure and robust, there are more options for support, keeping track of software licences is easier and many people feel there are strong ethical reasons too. What is Free and Open Source Software The term “free software” means free as in freedom, not cost (software rarely costs nothing once you've taken implementation and support into account). The freedoms you get from free and open source software include: Installing the software on as many computers as you like Giving (or selling) the software to other people or organisations The freedom to make changes to the “source code” yourself (or get a friendly programmer to do it for you). This gives users the ability to add features and fix bugs without going back, cap in hand, to the vendor. As a user of Free and Open Source Software, you have the opportunity, should you wish, to play an active role in the communities around the products you use: helping others, submitting bugs and influencing development. Being a member of a community in this way is quite different to the traditional passive consumer of proprietary software. Cost savings and where your money goes We are used to the idea of buying locally-produced food, in part to keep money in the local economy. The same issue exists around software. When you buy software from a company such as Microsoft, most of your money leaves the country.

  • OSINT Handbook September 2020
OPEN SOURCE INTELLIGENCE TOOLS AND RESOURCES HANDBOOK 2020 OPEN SOURCE INTELLIGENCE TOOLS AND RESOURCES HANDBOOK 2020 Aleksandra Bielska Noa Rebecca Kurz, Yves Baumgartner, Vytenis Benetis 2 Foreword I am delighted to share with you the 2020 edition of the OSINT Tools and Resources Handbook. Once again, the Handbook has been revised and updated to reflect the evolution of this discipline, and the many strategic, operational and technical challenges OSINT practitioners have to grapple with. Given the speed of change on the web, some might question the wisdom of pulling together such a resource. What’s wrong with the Top 10 tools, or the Top 100? There are only so many resources one can bookmark after all. Such arguments are not without merit. My fear, however, is that they are also shortsighted. I offer four reasons why. To begin, a shortlist betrays the widening spectrum of OSINT practice. Whereas OSINT was once the preserve of analysts working in national security, it now embraces a growing class of professionals in fields as diverse as journalism, cybersecurity, investment research, crisis management and human rights. A limited toolkit can never satisfy all of these constituencies. Second, a good OSINT practitioner is someone who is comfortable working with different tools, sources and collection strategies. The temptation toward narrow specialisation in OSINT is one that has to be resisted. Why? Because no research task is ever as tidy as the customer’s requirements are likely to suggest. Third, is the inevitable realisation that good tool awareness is equivalent to good source awareness. Indeed, the right tool can determine whether you harvest the right information.

  • 2.1.5 Microsoft Exchange Server
DIPLOMARBEIT Titel der Diplomarbeit “Replacing Microsoft’s collaboration software with Open-Source software” Verfasser Alexander Tragseil angestrebter akademischer Grad Magister der Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften (Mag. rer. soc. oec) Wien, 2008 Studienkennzahl lt. Studienblatt: A 175 Studienrichtung lt. Studienblatt: Wirtschaftsinformatik Betreuer: Ao. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Helmut Hlavacs Abstract i Abstract The purpose of the thesis at hand is to assess if similar functionality to a Microsoft-only collaboration solution can be achieved using Open-Source software (OSS) on the server as well as on the client. Specifically, the software to be replaced includes Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Live Commu- nications Server 2005 on the server side. For the client the list includes the Microsoft Win- dows operating system as well as Microsoft Office 2003/2007 and any other client soft- ware tailored for use with the server software. A realistic assumption in this undertaking has to be that much of the collaboration will be done over the Internet and not necessarily on a local network. To provide a complete overview, topics such as mobile computing or inadequate hardware support for laptops when using OSS will be included as well.
