THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do: 1. Is it the truth? 2. Is it fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build good will and better friendships? 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

I maintain a BLOG called Retention Central which has followers from all over the Rotary world. One recently asked me "What is the most memorable Rotary-inspired experience that has happened to you since you joined the Rotary Club of Sarasota?" I had to dig deep for a response.

I have had many memorable Rotary experiences: Group Study Exchange team leader to Thailand; hosting exchange students, Ambassadorial scholar, GSE team members and leaders, District Governors-Elect from around the world; club president (twice); Assistant Governor; District Governor; Nigeria dedicating wells and administering the polio vaccine; Zone 34 Rotary Coordinator. What turned out to be my most memorable experience began in 1977 when Jean and I, and our teen-age children Frank and Lynne, hosted our first exchange student - 18-year-old Mike Kohn from Germany. Because of Mike, we became known among his friends and friends of friends as welcoming Sarasota hosts for a chance to catch some warm beach time before returning to Germany. Over the years, we hosted many. About ten years after we hosted Mike, two fräuleins stopped over for three days of sun and fun. About four years later, one of them became our Blessing-in-Law and ultimately mother of our bilingual grandchildren. Our most memorable Rotary experience lives on. Jim and Jean Henry

What would be your response?
