2013 ANNUAL SUMMARY OF KOREAN NOTICES TO MARINERS KOREA HYDROGRAPHIC AND OCEANOGRAPHIC ADMINISTRATION MINISTRY OF OCEANS AND FISHERIES REPUBLIC OF KOREA FOREWORD The sea has been considered as a rich repository of natural resources, representing infinite future for the humanity. It has an inseparable link to the development and prosperity of a nation. With the recent increase in the quantity of goods transported by sea, the size and speed of vessels have been increasing, which results in a growing number of marine accidents. The 「2013 Annual Summary of Korean Notices to Mariners」 has been published in accordance with the recommendations of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and the long-term development plan of KHOA to contribute to the safety of navigation. The 「2013 Annual Summary of Korean Notices to Mariners」 is the summary of weekly Korean notices to mariners issued in 2013. It also contains useful information such as “Chart of Firing and Bombing Exercise Areas in the Coast of Korea”, and “World Wide Navigational Warning Service (WWNWS).” This Annual Summary is published every year, and it is distributed to the NTM users free of charge. KHOA hopes that this Annual Summary can be used as a guide for safe navigation by all seafarers. Le lieutenant-colonel Arnaud Beltrame a succombé à ses blessures après un acte héroïque effectué en service lors de l’attaque terroriste qui s’est déroulée à Trèbes (Aude). Arnaud Beltrame a été en charge des questions de sécurité et d’intelligence économique au cabinet du secrétaire général de notre pôle ministériel de 2014 à 2017, tout d’abord auprès de Monsieur Francis Rol-Tanguy puis de Madame Régine Engström. -

More than 270 people are still unaccounted for as efforts continue to rescue passengers aboard a South Korean ferry that sank off the country’s south-west coast on Wednesday morning. Officials said six of the ship’s 462 passengers had died, at least 55 are injured and 179 have been rescued. Many passengers - of which 300 are children - may have been trapped inside the vessel as it listed and sank. A total of 277 people remained missing. Dozens of coastguard and navy vessels were battling to rescue passengers, including 325 high school pupils and their teachers. A major rescue operation is now underway involving more than 30 coastguard and military ships, as well as about a dozen helicopters. The first ship to be broken up arrived on the Alang-Sosiya beaches on February 13, 1983. It was the Kota Tanjong, a 151 m long general cargo carrier with a 10,400 t deadweight, built in 1956 by Deutsche Werft at Hamburg as the Norwegian Hoegh Cape. In 1967 she became the Hong Kong-flagged Eastern Cape and then in 1972 the Singapore-flagged Kota Tanjong owned by Pacific International Lines. She was delivered to the Alang breaker SS Jain & Co. The section of shoreline designated as beaching area is 14 km long and covers 67 m2. -
