The first edition of the Guide was compiled and published back in 2006, an online version at www.rtlb.ru following in 2007 and a revised edition produced in 2008. For the last three years the Rtlb.ru – Russian Theatre Life in Brief Web site has been accumulating Russian theatre festivals data, and we are happy to have all this accumulated information published in a single edition. As it was in the previous editions, all the Guide entries are arranged according to festival genres. The genre sections are further structured according to the festival host cities in the alphabetic order. Each entry of the Guide contains information about the festival title, its character (international, national or regional), festival organisers, addresses and contact information. Some entries indicate the frequency, first edition and the usual time of the festival if such information has been provided by festival’s organisers. The English translation has the festival’s name transliterated from the native language as well as the most frequently used version of its title in English, if available, or its English translation. This new edition of the Guide has an extended index of all the festivals listed in it. The index arranges the festivals according to locations, period of their holding and open application policy, i.e. readers can conveniently find festivals in specific Russian cities, for specific months and festivals that normally accept applications from theatre companies. The 2011 PDF version of the Guide has been optimized for home/office printing on standard A4 paper, and additionally includes interactive features. Every entry has a dedicated web page at www.rtlb.ru which is regularly updated with further information, application form and relevant deadlines. These web pages are accessible by clicking on the festivals' title. The readers may quickly learn about more festivals taking place the same month or in the same city or other festivals of the same genre with open application policy by clicking on the months, cities or application procedure words respectively. The compilers did their best to present precise information in this edition, but complete accuracy cannot be guaranteed, and relevant festivals’ web pages may be more current due to regular updates. We welcome readers' comments and suggestions. You may contact the compilers by e-mail at [email protected]. 4 Theatre Union Of The Russian Federation Non-governmental organization of theatre professionals The history of the Russian Theatre Union (RTU) dates social aspect - RTU members can count on allowances, back to the time of establishment of Compassionate preferential health service and rest at the resorts Actors' Benefit Society in 1877.
