Premise Facing issues that interact with the socio cultural aspects deeply rooted in the cities history is speaking of Public Art in Italy and Rome. The city cannot be dissociated by its evident historic roots or by the cultural heritage on which the cities art is based upon. Indeed the role of architecture and urban planning, at the core of the territories development in the aftermath of the war, cannot be underestimated. Urban art together with the street art and it’s artists is a western overseas heritage, nevertheless it has now days become part of us and our daily life, changing the citizens approach to art. Paintings and sculptures overwhelm museums and invade the streets where people accept and identify art as an enrichment of their souls and the environment. Indeed Rome and its history have disseminated Public Art in the world, the commonplaces of the city show a citizens day to day approach to art. 2. Historic Public Art The roman citizen does not notice the art that surrounds him, unless pointed out. Rome is the largest municipality in Europe, with an inhabited surface area only slightly smaller than that of Greater London and almost double that of the inner Paris suburbs (the Petite Couronne). e spatial distribution of buildings within the municipality is distinctive. Unbuilt areas comprise 73 percent of the territory. ese voids are oen farmland (paradoxically, Rome is the largest rural municipality in Italy) or areas with high environmental, historic or cultural value. Fiumicino, previously part of the municipality of Rome, became an independent municipality in 1991. Its autonomy, made all the more signicant because Fiumicino hosts the international airport, marked the start of an extensive process of economic deconcentration along the route connecting Rome to the airport. In Italy’s case, the implementation of the UrbanSIM model posed several challenges, notably the availability, homogeneity and completeness of data. is paper uses four specic cases (land use, travel times, accessibility, and residential land values) to propose a general methodology to solve problems related to missing or non-homogeneous data. The construction is subject to the pre‐marketing of 80% of the spaces. • Saba will manage the entire parking complex on a concessionary basis for a period of 54 years, until 2061.     Dramatic Aspirations at Villa Borghese: The Theatrics of Bernini’s Sculptural Group by Olivia Peterson Presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for Departmental Honors in the Department of Art and Archaeology (Art History) Hood College April 2019 Peterson 1 Introduction: This paper focuses on both the display and subject matter of Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s sculptures at Villa Borghese in Rome, Italy. Utilizing research with primary source material, including biographical accounts of Bernini’s life, evidence of the artist’s interest and involvement in the theater of the seventeenth century is illuminated. The sculptural group at the villa exemplifies Bernini’s early affinity for theatricality within the context of the larger Borghese collection. This is explored through examination of the sculptures’ compositional arrangement, placement within the gallery, and visual presentation of emotion. Each aspect encourages viewer interaction with the sculptures, much like that which is achieved during musical and theatrical performances from the same time period. Delving into art theory and criticism from the time period, Bernini’s approach to the sculptures featured at Villa Borghese is a testament to the artist’s ability to evoke viewer response to his work. This paper will look in detail at one of the four main sculptural groups of the villa. This sculpture, Apollo and Daphne, will be analyzed visually and in reference to pertinent literature in order to explore its similarity of presentation to visual performances of the theater in the seventeenth century.
