Sch., is the urost strikingll'beautiful I have seen. In Automeris jattus, Cr., the spine defense system is carried to an extreme ; the length of the prcfusely branching spines is r5 mm. to 25 mm.' or twice the diameter of the body, and so abundant that the larva ]ooks like a bunch of moss a few yards arvay ; while the quantity of poison contairred in these spines is so great that during the process of inflating, the fumes which are driven off with the vapour are positively dangerous to the operator. This sturJy also 1ed me to look trp the nomenclature of these insects, and the results are given in this PaPer. .Ihere has been a grorvine tendency for some time to use the generic names proposed by Hr.ibner, and while at first I rvas not inclined to adopt the genera in his Tentamen, .I nor' feel compelled to do so' It is not uecessar-y to argue this qr.restion, since both sides were so ably pre- sented years ago in this journal. -

Nat. Croat., Vol. 29, No. 2, 227-240, 2020, Zagreb. In 2016 and 2017 a survey of the butterflies and moth fauna of the island of Lokrum, Dubrovnik was carried out. A total of 208 species were recorded, which, together with 15 species from the literature, raised the total number of known species to 223. The results of our survey can be used as a baseline for the study of future changes in the Lepidoptera composition on the island. In comparison with the lit- erature records, eight butterfly species can be regarded as extinct from the island. The most probable reason for extinction is the degradation of the grassland habitats due to the natural succession as well as the introduction of the European Rabbit and Indian Peafowl. Their presence has probably had a tremendously detrimental effect on the native flora and fauna of the island. To conserve the Lepidop- tera fauna of the island, and the still remaining biodiversity, immediate eradication of these introduced species is needed. Choreutis Nemorana (Hübner, 1799) (Lepidoptera: Choreutidae) –First Record in Bulgaria
Silva Balcanica, 18(2)/2017 CHOREUTIS NEMORANA (HÜBNER, 1799) (LEPIDOPTERA: CHOREUTIDAE) –FIRST RECORD IN BULGARIA Tanya Todorova Vaneva-Gancheva Tobacco and Tobacco Products Institute - Plovdiv Abstract Choreutis nemorana was found on Ficus carica in Plovdiv region, Bulgaria in 2016. This is the first record reported from Bulgaria. Distribution data, morphological, biological data and life history of the species are presented. Key words: Choreutis nemorana; Ficus carica, Bulgaria INTRODUCTION On 30 September 2016, a damaged fig tree (Ficus carica L.) was noticed in Plovdiv region. The leaves looked skeletonized and whitened even from a distance. On the skeletonized leaves some caterpillars, pupae in white cocoons and many empty pupae in cocoons were remarked. We took some caterpillars and cocoons and kept them in the lab. Two larval specimens which pupated on 2 October emerged on 20 and 23 October respectively. The moth from pupa emerged between 15 and 19 October. This year (2017) at the end of summer on the same fig tree and on two others nearby were observed the same damage. The moths emerged in the end of October. It is the most likely that those moths are from second generation. Probably damages from the first generation were minor and stay unremarkable. The only species that has larvae specialized in eating the leaf tissue on a fig tree is Choreutis nemorana (Hübner, 1799), which is not listed in Bulgaria, this appears to be the first report of this species. DISTRIBUTION C. nemorana (Hübner, 1799) also known as a fig leaf roller or fig-tree skeletonize moth. The species was described by Hübner, 1799. -

Aroplectrus dimerus will be used to control the nettle caterpillar (NC), Darna pallivitta (Moore) (Lepidoptera: Limacodidae), an invasive species that has stinging spines and an appetite for a wide range of plants. This Draft Environmental Assessment (DEA) was prepared by the applicant for the Office of Environmental Quality Control (OEQC), Department of Health, State of Hawaii, to comply with the provisions of Hawaii Revised Statutes, Chapter 343, Environmental Impact Statements. II. Need for the Proposed Action A. Detailed description of proposed action Purpose of the release The HDOA proposes to introduce the parasitic wasp Aroplectrus dimerus into Hawaii as a biological control agent of the nettle caterpillar (NC). Host specificity studies have been completed in the HDOA Insect Containment Facility and A. dimerus was found to attack only the NC and not any of 25 species of non-target Lepidoptera tested. -

Falck, O. Karsholt & J. Rota Abstract We describe and illustrate Anthophila variabilis Falck, Karsholt & Rota, sp. n. (Choreutidae) from Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). The new species is outstanding due to the variability of its male genitalia. It is closely related to A. fabriciana (Linnaeus, 1767), and more distantly related to Anthophila threnodes (Walsingham, 1910), which is endemic to Madeira. Based on the DNA barcode, the new species is molecularly very distinct from its closest relative, A. fabriciana, with a pairwise K2P distance of more than 6.5%. The previous record of A. fabriciana from the Canary Islands is based on misidentification, and the species should be removed from the list of Lepidoptera found in the Canary Islands. -

Then, in 2010, it was recorded in Nefzawa in the Rjim-Maatoug oasis. Some morphological and biological aspects of this insect are described in this paper. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Keywords: Ficus carica, fig crops, fig leaf roller, oasis Choreutis nemorana also known as fig-tree skeletonizer moth or fig leaf roller, it belongs to the order of Lepidoptera A B and the family of Choreutidae. The length of the adult body is between 16 and 20 mm, its forewing are mainly reddish brown to ochreous brown, suffused with black and marked extensively with white to grey scales. Hind wings are brownish, each with a pair of pale spots towards the margin (Fig. 1A). Eggs are spherical (0.5 mm across) with creamish white color. Larvae are up to 20 mm long, they are light green, shiny and semitransparent, with white latero-dorsal lines, pale median dorsal line and numerous large black verrucae on a green background. With the steadily increasing general interest for the taxonomy of the so called Microlepidoptera, several less known or neglected groups are receiving renewed attention. One of these is the socalled "family Glyphipterygidae sensu Meyrick, 1913". This group with a worldwide distribution, comprising often large, noctuidlike or other, beautifully and brightly coloured and mar ked species, has been notorious for its vague limits and appallingly heteroge nous character. For a long time the group needed extensive revision. This is taking place at present, started more or less simultaneously from different di rections: the New World Fauna is tackled by Heppner, that of Japan, by Ari ta, that of the U.S.S.R., by Danilevsky and by Zaguljaev and that of the Pa laearctic Region, by the present author. -
