Sweden spends more on Research & Development than any European nation (3% of GDP) and excels in promoting training and transfer of knowledge with partner countries and businesses. Sweden is also ranked as the world´s most digitized economy. Investments and advancement in ICT have played a crucial role in diversifying the economy, creating new companies and jobs and developed smart new solutions in various sectors, including energy and transport. Nigeria is the biggest country and economy in Africa, with a population of approximately 200 million, accounting for 47% of West Africa’s population and over 65% of West Africa’s GDP. With abundant natural resources and a young, dynamic population, the country has long played an important role on the continent and it has the potential to be a wider global player in the coming decades. Presently, Nigeria hosts the second largest number of active innovation hubs in Africa with 55 hubs and its largest state Lagos ranks the first ecosystem on the continent. Recent commitments from Facebook, Google and Accion Microfinance are nothing but a recognition of the importance of the Nigerian market. Nigeria is also leading in the ambitious regional electrical connectivity project for the West African region under the auspices of the West African Power Pool (WAPP). The Nigerian Government’s commitments and efforts to develop the country’s infrastructure, diversify the economy and create jobs requires innovative solutions. The power of collaboration and co-creation is key. The delegation and resulting activities aim to builds on previous exchanges and partnerships between the two countries, including the Swedish Minister for Trade’s visit to Nigeria in 2016, the Swedish-Nigerian Innovation day in Lagos in 2018, the event Nordic-Nigeria Connect, Innovating for Change, in Lagos in 2019 and the recently concluded Nigeria Digital Economy Summit in Abuja with Sweden selected as the partner country in 2019.
