2018/2019 Season Newsletter No.1 engadinedragonscc.org.au ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 2 ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 2 ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 3 DRAGON’S NEWS Welcome to another season of cricket with the Dragons as the Club celebrates its 60th Anniversary – This season the Club will be fielding 14 junior teams (140 players) an increase of 2 teams. With player numbers dropping across the Association Engadine are only one of a couple of clubs that has seen a rise in junior registrations. Our senior numbers have dropped this season from 7 teams to 5 teams (82 players). There have been a number of big changes to the junior competition with the U10 and U12 no longer playing two day matches opting for one day games, batting restrictions, reduced fielders and shorter pitches. These changes are part of Cricket Australia’s vision to increase player participation. Sponsorship – This season is looking to be the most supported season in relation to sponsorship. We welcome back our existing Gold Sponsors – Plus Fitness 24/7 Engadine, Generation Legal and Club Engadine who have returned again for another season without any hesitation. The Engadine Bowling Club have increased their sponsorship this season which puts them into the Gold Level Sponsorship, which is awesome news for the club, we love having our club night at the Bowlo. Our other returning sponsors for the season are Terri Mackay Reality, 20/20 Sports Physiotherapy, Engadine Town Square, GNP Marine Trimming, Razor Cuts Barbers, Corner Brew Cafe and The Engadine Tavern. We are very grateful to have their ongoing support. Welcome to our new sponsors for this season – Underground Civil Supplies, MG Pools, Adam Pascoe Electrical, Metal Deck Roofing, Bakers Delight Engadine Central, Renxtend Pools, Carpet One Engadine, Doug Grimson EyeQ Optometrist and Ross Davidson Automotive. This shirt proudly shows off our wonderful sponsors and will be a hit with all the players. Please repay our sponsors by shopping local and using their services if and when you can. All the boys played well, shaking off some winter rust to play some terrific cricket. The game was played in a wonderful spirit by both sides. The team have only just met each other, but the boys were supporting each other in a really impressive way that showed they all have a great sense of teamwork. For game one of the season, this was a really positive sign for the season ahead. Very proud of the boys this week, and looking forward to a great season ahead.” 10B Team Round No.2 “A great match this week that ended in a tie with 139 runs each!!! While not a win, a tie was probably a good result as both teams played well and were evenly matched. The boys again showed great spirit and a strong sense of teamwork, supporting each other and acknowledging the good work of their opposition too. This week’s captain, Harry, played a blinder with a bunch of runs and a couple of great wickets including a wonderful caught and bowled. This strong all-round performance plus some terrific positive leadership earned him player of the week. Cobi N had a great game with the ball, almost pulling off a hat-trick at one point. Jake Simpson took a screaming catch at square leg deep in the outfield, showing a pair of steady hands that never flinched.
