This book was fairly useful for my studies, but as I feared from a scholar-reviewed book, there is a much heavier focus on breadth than depth. It tries to cover a wide The Cambridge Companion to Hip-Hop of topics related to the hip hop culture, but only scratches the surface on the history, context and development of the key components. I was particularly hoping for more background information of the influences other music genres had on hip hop, and how it developed over time.
