craft production just because of what it does with sampling technology and that alone. It’s got quite a conservative form and quite a pop form as well just at the moment, in terms of the clarity of the sonics. When those elements are added to hip-hop tracks it must be difficult to make the vocal stand out. The biggest challenge is always getting the vocal heard on top of the track — the curse of the underground is an ill-defined vocal. When I went to bigger studios and used 1176s and LA2s it was a revelation, chucking one of them on gets the vocal up a bit. That’s how we were able to blag our way through Dizzee’s first album. What do you use in Dizzee’s vocal chain? With the budget we were on when I did Boy In Da Corner I used a Neumann TLM103B. When I bought it, £500 seemed a hell of a lot of money for a microphone. Then it goes to my Drawmer 1960 — I exchanged a couple of my keyboards for that. Certainly with Showtime, the new desk improved the vocal sound. It would be interesting to just step the gear up a notch, now we have the deal with XL, and see what happens. Do you have a label deal for Dirty Stank records with XL? I Love You came out first on Dirty Stank on the underground, plus other tunes like Ho and some beats. XL has licensed the albums from Dirty Stank so it’s not a true label deal in that sense, although with our first signings, it’s starting to move in that Nick Cage direction.

  • Where Are the Audiences?
WHERE ARE THE AUDIENCES? Full Report Introduction • New Zealand On Air (NZ On Air) supports and funds audio and visual public media content for New Zealand audiences. It does so through the platform neutral NZ Media Fund which has four streams; scripted, factual, music, and platforms. • Given the platform neutrality of this fund and the need to efficiently and effectively reach both mass and targeted audiences, it is essential NZ On Air have an accurate understanding of the current and evolving behaviour of NZ audiences. • To this end NZ On Air conduct the research study Where Are The Audiences? every two years. The 2014 benchmark study established a point in time view of audience behaviour. The 2016 study identified how audience behaviour had shifted over time. • This document presents the findings of the 2018 study and documents how far the trends revealed in 2016 have moved and identify any new trends evident in NZ audience behaviour. • Since the 2016 study the media environment has continued to evolve. Key changes include: − Ongoing PUTs declines − Anecdotally at least, falling SKY TV subscription and growth of NZ based SVOD services − New TV channels (eg. Bravo, HGTV, Viceland, Jones! Too) and the closure of others (eg. FOUR, TVNZ Kidzone, The Zone) • The 2018 Where Are The Audiences? study aims to hold a mirror up to New Zealand and its people and: − Inform NZ On Air’s content and platform strategy as well as specific content proposals − Continue to position NZ On Air as a thought and knowledge leader with stakeholders including Government, broadcasters and platform owners, content producers, and journalists.

  • Challenging ESPN: How Fox Sports Can Play in ESPN's Arena
Challenging ESPN: How Fox Sports can play in ESPN’s Arena Kristopher M. Gundersen May 1, 2014 Professor Richard Linowes – Kogod School of Business University Honors Spring 2014 Gundersen 1 Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship ESPN has with the sports broadcasting industry. The study focuses on future prospects for the industry in relation to ESPN and its most prominent rival Fox Sports. It introduces significant players in the market aside from ESPN and Fox Sports and goes on to analyze the current industry conditions in the United States and abroad. To explore the future conditions for the market, the main method used was a SWOT analysis juxtaposing ESPN and Fox Sports. Ultimately, the study found that ESPN is primed to maintain its monopoly on the market for many years to come but Fox Sports is positioned well to compete with the industry behemoth down the road. In order to position itself alongside ESPN as a sports broadcasting power, Fox Sports needs to adjust its time horizon, improve its bids for broadcast rights, focus on the personalities of its shows, and partner with current popular athletes. Additionally, because Fox Sports has such a strong regional persona and presence outside of sports, it should leverage the relationship it has with those viewers to power its national network. Gundersen 2 Introduction The world of sports is a fast-paced and exciting one that attracts fanatics from all over. They are attracted to specific sports as a whole, teams within a sport, and traditions that go along with each sport.
