Trump seeks dismissal of niece's fraud lawsuit Trump seeks dismissal of niece's fraud lawsuit Washington, January 6 (RHC)-- U.S. President Donald Trump has sought to cancel a lawsuit lodged by his niece Mary Trump who claims she had been cheated out of her inheritance worth tens of millions of dollars by her uncles and aunt. The president's lawyers claimed Mary Trump had failed to provide solid evidence that Donald Trump, his sister Maryanne Trump Barry and his late brother Robert Trump had tried to "squeeze" her out of her inheritance. "Plaintiff makes outlandish and incredulous accusations in her complaint, which is laden with conspiracy theories more befitting a Hollywood screenplay than a pleading in a legal action," the president's lawyers, who also represent Robert Trump's estate, said in a filing on Monday in a New York state court in Manhattan. Trump's lawyers said Mary Trump's lawsuit's "true purpose" was "to weaken the President's political influence during his post-presidency by preoccupying him with the defense of innumerable lawsuits." Roberta Kaplan, a lawyer for Mary Trump, said that while her client "is surely no fan of Donald Trump or his administration's policies, [the] intra-family fraud is what this case is about." Meanwhile, Mary Trump, 55, a psychologist, made some of her allegations in her best-selling tell-all: "Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man." Donald Trump, who lost the 2020 US presidential election to Democratic Joe Biden, faces several other legal actions, as well. The court cases outgoing president faces after January 20 include a criminal probe by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, a civil probe by New York Attorney General Letitia James into whether he inflated asset values to obtain loans and tax benefits, and a defamation lawsuit by the writer E. 2020 Media Analysis of the US Election: August 2020 Insights from pressrelations 2020 Introduction In cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing and Ergonomics FKIE and NewsGuard, pressrelations is conducting am in-depth media analysis that sheds light on the role of disinformation in the 2020 US election. Time window of the qualitative analysis Link to the InfoBoard The basis for this quantitative, fully automated media analysis is formed by 426 online media sources from five countries. The data from 16 of those media sources was coded by pressrelations analysts, according to qualitative criteria. The selected media sources included eight US media sources and eight online media sources from Germany, Austria and Switzerland (D-A-CH), which were analyzed for the period from August 1 to August 31, 2020. In addition, TV coverage of CNN, FOX News and ARD was examined. 9/24/2020 PAGE 2 2020 Methodology This analysis includes the assessment and mapping of the media landscape from different perspectives and is based on extensive data collection from media reports made public on the Internet or on TV channels. The amount of news about the 2020 US election campaign is immense. The volume of articles therefore made it necessary to restrict the media set to a few select media sources. The selection of media was based on the potential reach and the volume of contributions of the respective sources. Despite this restriction, a total of 13,203 posts were coded in August alone. All articles that addressed at least one of the four candidates running for the American presidency and vice presidency were examined.

Chapter A Disinformation-Misinformation Ecology: The Case of Trump Thomas J. Froehlich Abstract This paper lays out many of the factors that make disinformation or misinformation campaigns of Trump successful. By all rational standards, he is unfit for office, a compulsive liar, incompetent, arrogant, ignorant, mean, petty, and narcissistic. Yet his approval rating tends to remain at 40%. Why do rational assessments of his presidency fail to have any traction? This paper looks at the con- flation of knowledge and beliefs in partisan minds, how beliefs lead to self-decep- tion and social self-deception and how they reinforce one another. It then looks at psychological factors, conscious and unconscious, that predispose partisans to pursue partisan sources of information and reject non-partisan sources. It then explains how these factors sustain the variety and motivations of Trump supporters’ commitment to Trump. The role of cognitive authorities like Fox News and right-wing social media sites are examined to show how the power of these media sources escalates and reinforces partisan views and the rejection of other cognitive authorities. These cognitive authorities also use emotional triggers to inflame Trump supporters, keeping them addicted by feeding their anger, resentment, or self-righteousness. The paper concludes by discussing the dynamics of the Trump disinformation- misinformation ecology, creating an Age of Inflamed Grievances.
