  • P-Bruins Stomp Wolf Pack to Lower Magic Number to Two
Providence Bruins Nathan Roberts [email protected], 401.680.4734 Eddie Pannone [email protected] P-BRUINS STOMP WOLF PACK TO LOWER MAGIC NUMBER TO TWO Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday night 6-3, lowering their magic number to clinch a playoff berth to two. The P-Bruins got two goals from Ryan Fitzgerald along with goals from Anton Blidh, Jordan Szwarz, Trent Frederic and Austin Czarnik while Zane McIntyre made his 42nd start of the season in net. Providence dominated the zone time in the opening period and it showed on the scoreboard. After being held scoreless despite an 8-1 shots edge through six minutes, Blidh gave the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead at 7:59. Taking a pass from Cameron Hughes, Blidh started a 2-on-1 break with Jack Studnicka up the right side. Rather than pass, Blidh surprised Hartford goalie Alexander Georgiev with a wrister from inside the right circle for his 11th goal of the season. Just 1:11 later, Szwarz doubled that lead with his 21st goal of the season. At the bottom of the left circle, he blasted a one-timer in off a pass from Fitzgerald to give Providence a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. That domination continued into period number two with Providence tacking on a trio of goals. Fitzgerald found the back of the net on the power play at 2:58, tapping a beautiful feed from Czarnik in from the crease to make things 3-0 Providence. He struck again at 8:37, taking advantage of a poor Hartford clearing attempt.

  • P-Bruins Fall 5-4 After Wild Third Period Comeback Falls Short
Providence Bruins Nathan Roberts [email protected], 401.680.4734 Eddie Pannone [email protected] P-BRUINS FALL 5-4 AFTER WILD THIRD PERIOD COMEBACK FALLS SHORT Syracuse, NY – The Providence Bruins fell to the Syracuse Crunch Tuesday night 5-4, falling behind in the Eastern Conference Finals 2 games to 1. The P-Bruins got two goals from Danton Heinen and goals apiece from Anton Blidh and Ryan Fitzgerald while Zane McIntyre made his 15th straight postseason start in net. Syracuse opened the scoring just over eight minutes into the opening period, taking advantage of their first power play. Matt Taormina sent a pass from the blue line over to Cory Conacher at the top of the right circle. He blasted a one-timer by McIntyre for his fifth goal of the playoffs as the Crunch went up 1-0. The Crunch netted a third goal five minutes into the second, chasing McIntyre from the game. With Yanni Gourde screening him in front, Matt Taormina fired a shot from the blue line by the All-Star goalie to make things 3-0 and force Providence to bring Malcolm Subban in for the first time this postseason. Providence Bruins Nathan Roberts [email protected], 401.680.4734 Eddie Pannone [email protected] P-BRUINS WEEK IN REVIEW: 10/24/17 – 11/1/17 Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins come home this weekend after a week featuring a split of two road games. Friday night resulted in a 4-1 defeat of Binghamton during their first matchup of the season with the Devils. The P-Bruins had two goals from Austin Czarnik along with goals from Josh Hennessy and Anton Blidh, while McIntyre stopped 13 of 14 shots during the game. The weekend ended in a 3-2 loss Saturday night against the Bears in Hershey, ending the Providence Bruins’ four-game winning streak. After their weekend split, the P-Bruins have bumped down a spot to second in the Eastern Conference and fourth overall in the American Hockey League. They have won six of their eight games played so far this season and have got off to one of the best starts in team history. Czarnik, in his fourth season with the Providence Bruins, scored two power play goals Friday night and now has a team leading 10 points to start the season. During Saturday’s game, Colton Hargrove scored the only two Bruin goals that game, his first two goals of the 2017-18 season. Zane McIntyre was returned on loan from Boston last week, making the start in goal during Friday’s game against the Binghamton Devils. McIntyre stopped 13 of 14 shots during Friday’s game to improve to 4-1 with a 1.81 GAA and 92.8% save percentage.

  • P-Bruins Week in Review: 12/27/17 – 1/2/18
Providence Bruins Nathan Roberts [email protected], 401.680.4734 Eddie Pannone [email protected] P-BRUINS WEEK IN REVIEW: 12/27/17 – 1/2/18 Providence, RI – The calendar has flipped to 2018 and the Providence Bruins boast the best record in the Eastern Conference. The team took five of a possible six points last week to close out their season-long eight-game road trip and have cemented themselves as one of the AHL’s elite teams. The P-Bruins sit atop the Atlantic Division with a 21-8-3 record and their 45 points rank them second in the entire AHL. The P-Bruins started the week off with a come-from-behind victory in Utica, fighting their way out of a two-goal deficit in the third. With just 1:13 to play and the goalie pulled, Matt Beleskey scored the game tying goal to make things 4-4 into a shootout. Kenny Agostino scored the only goal of the shootout and Providence walked away with a 5-4 win. Facing those same Comets Friday night, the P-Bruins played from ahead almost the entire way and won by a 3-1 final. They finished the week in Belleville, but despite a third period comeback to send the game to overtime Providence fell 3-2 in their 2017 finale. Anton Blidh led the club with two goals on the week, but with his goal on Wednesday Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson tied Jordan Szwarz for the team lead with ten goals on the season. Agostino scored in each game for a team-best four points and has now pushed his point streak up to team-high six games in a row.
