It’s a warm envelope to rest in but exciting enough not to put you to sleep. VIVIAN’s Tim Massa and Alana Rolfe came out of big changes leading up to quarantine: Massa went through a divorce and their other band Stella Luce ended after ten years. Suddenly, they began cranking out songs. “There’s a sense of urgency but an overwhelming sense of loss,” says Rolfe, “It’s so confusing it makes your head want to split in half.” Covid-19 has changed much “In the last two years I really of what we love about music – got into home recording and some possibly forever – but the beat production,” Massa says. “I indomitable spirit of musicians was working on some stuff as continues to persevere. -

Apple Label Discography
Apple Label Discography 100-800 series (Capitol numbering series) Apple Records was formed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr in 1968. The Apple label was intended as a vehicle for the Beatles, their individual recordings and the talent they discovered. A great deal of what appeared on Apple was pretty self indulgent and experimental but they did discover a few good singers and groups. James Taylor recorded his first album on the label. Doris Troy recorded a good soul album and there are 2 albums by John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet. The Beatlesque group Badfinger also issued several albums on the label, the best of which was “Straight Up”. Apple Records fell apart in management chaos in 1974 and 1975 and a bitter split between the Beatles over the management of the company. Once the lawyers got involved everybody was suing everybody else over the collapse. The parody of the Beatles rise and the disintegration of Apple is captured hilariously in the satire “All You Need Is Cash: the story of the Rutles”. The Apple label on side 1 is black with a picture of a green apple on it, black printing. The label on side 2 is a picture of ½ an apple. From November 1968 until early 1970 at the bottom of the label was “MFD. BY CAPITOL RECORDS, INC. A SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES INC. USA”. From Early 1970 to late 1974, at the bottom of the label is “MFD. BY APPLE RECORDS” From late 1974 through 1975, there was a notation under the “MFD. -

During the first half of the 1990s, pop music vastly outnumbered underground/experimental music. It was the revenge of melody, after a quarter of a century of progressive sounds. A cycle that began with the demise of the Beatles and the rise of alternative/progressive rock, and that continued with the German and Canterbury schools of the 1970s, and then punk-rock and the new wave, and peaked with the alt-rock and college- pop of the 1980s, came to an abrupt, grinding halt in the 1990s. The more fashionable and rewarding route was, however, the one that coasted the baroque pop of latter-day Beach Boys, Van Dyke Parks, Big Star and XTC, the one that coupled catchy refrains and lush arrangements. The single most important school may have been San Francisco's, which had originated in the 1980s with the Sneetches. Jellyfish (2), featuring guitarist Jason Falkner, wrote perhaps the most impeccable melodies of the time. Bellybutton (1990), a milestone of naive, bubblegum melodic music inspired by Merseybeat and later Beach Boys, was both cartoonish and shimmering, while the arrangements on Spilt Milk (1993) were almost baroque. -
