The Road to Wisdom: Through Adversity - Derek Stoughton Join our National Curriculum Committee Chair and discuss how to navigate both the challenges that we are facing in our world today, as well as how to teach and learn our curriculum virtually. From Discord to Harmony: The Power of Music in Stress Management - Bang Co 2020 has proven to be detrimental to our health and well-being - 2021 being no different. From social distancing to virtual learning, this past year has completely upended our lives and hurt us in more ways than we can count. A common concern we often hear from students is how stress has become so much more difficult to manage. In this workshop, we will take a deep dive into different musical pieces and research to uncover the power of music in stress management. By reconnecting with our musical side, attendees will leave with some insight and practices that they can exercise to manage and potential relieve stress. Honoring Outstanding Band Members - Jessica Lee In this interactive workshop, Brothers will take a deep dive into the second purpose of Kappa Kappa Psi and explore ways to help recruit and select quality membership candidates for their chapters. Using the Ritual and other documents, Brothers will engage in activities and lively discussion centered on the values of Kappa Kappa Psi, walking away with tools to take back and implement in their chapter's membership process. This session is closed to initiated members only! Inner Circle Workshop: Ritual Before and After - Spencer Bajcar/Garret Gardenhire In this session, we aim to discuss ritual preparations in order to help chapters feel more comfortable moving forward with in person rituals at some point in the future. We will talk about some broad ideas that can help unite brothers in their understanding of the ritual, as well as some detailed things that can help specifically with performing an effective ritual and debrief. This workshop can be helpful for both organizations and is a great way to learn how to more effectively transition your new chapter officers into the upcoming year. Establishing Conflict Resolution In Your Chapter - Christopher Lukasik Come join Christopher Lukasik, Chapter Visitation Assistant for Tau Beta Sigma, as he helps you work through how to manage conflict within your chapter. This workshop will explore all the aspects of Conflict Management and everything you will need to handle conflict in your chapter. Creating and Maintenance of Digital Records - Chelsea Rasing Come join Chelsea Rasing, Chapter Visitation Assistant for Tau Beta Sigma, as she leads you in how to create and maintain your digital records. With our ever changing world, this is something that is a necessity for all chapters to know. This workshop will help active members be more comfortable with all of the digital records that we use and how to use them effectively. Parliamentary Procedure - Carrie Webster/Kellie Leitz Come join Carrie Webster and Kellie Leitz, North Central District Counselors for Tau Beta Sigma, as they walk you through parliamentary procedure. This is so important for the chapter to understand and utilize in their chapter meetings. This workshop will give a better understanding of parliamentary procedure and how to effectively utilize it in your chapter. WORKSHOP DETAILS...CONTINUED Joint Workshops Burnout and Mental Health - Carolyn McCambridge Come join Carolyn McCambridge, Chair for the Tau Beta Sigma Board of Trustee Member, as she guides you through the concepts of burnout and how it affects your mental health. This workshop will teach you what burnout is, how to manage it, and how to take care of your mental health when dealing with burnout. This workshop is open to Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma members. General Operations Workshop - Ashlyn Simmons Come join Ashylyn Simmons, Southwest District Counselor for Tau Beta Sigma, as she walks you through the general operations for a chapter. This workshop is open to Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma members. This workshop will help members have a better understanding of the general operations of their chapter. MUSIC HOUR - BREAKOUT ROOM A Band Director/Conductor's QnA - Dr. Sarah McKoin Dr. Sarah McKoin is the Director of Bands and Professor of Conducting at Texas Tech University. Her responsibilities include Conductor and Musical Director of the TTU Symphonic Wind Ensemble, administrating the graduate program in wind conducting, teaching conducting and wind literature, and overseeing all facets of the University band program, which includes 5 concert bands, the 400 member Goin' Band from Raiderland, and other athletic bands. Dr. McKoin maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor and clinician and has traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Recently, she served as a clinician for a band festival in Thailand, and has worked for the Asian Pacific American School Honor Band in Guangzhou, China comprised of 100 students from Korea, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Kuala Lampur, Shanghai and other Southeast Asian cities. She has guest conducted in Taipei, Taiwan and has traveled to Tel Aviv, Israel to serve as producer for the world premiere recording of Roberto Sierra's Fantasia Correliana with the Castellani-Andriaccio guitar duo. Prior to her appointment at Texas Tech, Professor McKoin was the Director of Bands at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and held appointments at the State University of New York at Buffalo and SUNY Fredonia. Dr. McKoin holds her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin as well as degrees from Wichita State University and Michigan State University. She has served as President of the Southwest Division of the College Band Director's National Association as well as President of the Big 12 Band Director's Association. She is a member of TMEA, TBA, Phi Beta Mu, Pi Kappa Lambda and holds honorary memberships in Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. MUSIC HOUR - BREAKOUT ROOM B Composer's QnA - Mrs. Julie Giroux Julie Ann Giroux was born in Fairhaven, Massachusetts on December 12, 1961. She graduated from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge LA in 1984. She started playing piano at 3 years of age and began composing at the age of 8 and has been composing ever since. Her first published work for concert band, published by Southern Music Company was composed at the age of 13. Julie began composing commercially in 1984. She was hired by Oscar winning composer Bill Conti as an orchestrator, her first project with Conti being “North & South” the mini-series. With over 100 film, television and video game credits, Giroux collaborated with dozens of film composers, producers, and celebrities including Samuel Goldwyn, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Madonna, Liza Minnelli, Celene Dion, Paula Abdul, Michael Jackson, Paul Newman, Harry Connick Jr. and many others. Projects she has worked on have been nominated for Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and Golden Globe awards. She has won individual Emmy Awards in the field of “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music Direction”. When She won her first Emmy Award, she was the first woman and the youngest person to ever win that award. She has won it three times. Giroux has also published a large category of classical works with emphasis on original compositions for Wind Band which are published by Musica Propria and distributed internationally.
