Dis - covered by Diana Ross at a benefit concert in 1969, many regarded the boy group as a sig - nal of freedom from racism and life in the ghetto. The music of the bubblegum clan – »a mixture of innocence and total professionalism«, according to the magazine Rolling catalogue # 709 Stone – was particularly appealing to other kids of the same age, who couldn’t get their hands quickly enough on masses of their idols’ concert tickets and various merchandise set contents 1 LP / standard sleeve such as hairspray aerosols, watches and T-shirts. There were dozens of Jackson Five juve - nile products on the market, but it must be said that the amazing success of the Five was pricecode truly earned from an artistic standpoint. The subtle and lively use of their voices, the boys’ SC01 innate understanding of rhythm and verve, and their good constitution which allowed release date them to appear very often on stage all played a part in making the Jacksons the idols of May 2009 millions of young people. Their meteoric ascension to stardom was backed up by Motown’s barcode best producers and studio musicians. The record company’s slogan “The Sound of Young 4260019713537 America” couldn’t have been chosen more aptly! original production Mickey Stevenson and Jo Hunter Die Jacksons bildeten die jugendliche Speerspitze im bereits etablierten Motown-Pool. WWW.SPEAKERSCORNERRECORDS.COM | [email protected].

Biography Armed with some of the greatest songs ever written, The Miracles are still after 40 years, attracting enthusiastic audiences around the world. Motown’s first of many famous groups such as The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Supremes, The Commodores, and The Jackson Five, and of course The Miracles the very first group to sign to Motown records, continue to keep the Motown sound alive by performing songs, such as: “Shop Around”, “I Second That Emotion”, “Tears Of A Clown”, “Love Machine”, “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me”, “The Tracks Of My Tears”, “Ooh Baby Baby” and many more. Their performances at the Nassau Coliseum, the Inaugural Gala in Washington, D.C. and the 4th of July celebration at Duke University with over 60,000 fans in attendance, was simply unbelievable. In 1956, Bobby Rogers, Smokey Robinson, Claudette Robinson, Ronnie White and Pete Moore, childhood friends became The Miracles, and embarked on a career that would surpass their wildest dreams. Berry Gordy Motown’s founder recorded and released “Shop Around” a number one smash on all the charts, establishing The Miracles and giving Motown their first gold seller, this was the beginning of the record company and the group success for many years to come. The Miracles and Motown Records became known throughout the entire world. Over the course of the years, The Miracles continued to record chart-topping hits, including “Ooo Baby Baby”, “Going To A Go-Go”, “More Love”, “Mickey’s Monkey” and “Tears Of A Clown”. The Miracles established themselves as one of the best groups of all times.

STEPHENS rT r aHE SOUL TRADITION is a prime cultural force in American popular music; of that, there can be little doubt, although this musical phenomenon is sometimes vaguely defined. Born of the Civil Rights and Black Power movements of the 1960s, soul has provided a musical and cultural foundation for virtually every facet of contemporary popular music. More important than its commercial successes, however, are the messages and philosophies it has communicated and the musical influences which underlie its development.

  • I Will Survive”--Gloria Gaynor (1978) Added to the National Registry: 2015 Essay by Louis Niebur (Guest Post)*
“I Will Survive”--Gloria Gaynor (1978) Added to the National Registry: 2015 Essay by Louis Niebur (guest post)* Gloria Gaynor Original single Original single sleeve On the surface, Gloria Gaynor's disco anthem, "I Will Survive" tells the straightforward story of a woman unwilling to put up with a cheating partner. But immediately upon its release in 1978, it was endowed by listeners with much more power than this simple premise, through its universal themes of strength, pride, independence, and overcoming self-doubt. It had, and continues to have, particular resonance with the groups most closely connected with disco since its creation in the early 1970s: African-Americans, gays, and women. Gaynor's story isn't one of overnight success. Rather, her title as the first "Queen of Discos" was earned after years of struggle as a touring live musician, sacrificing security and stability for the less tangible but more fulfilling rewards of a musical career. Gaynor was born on September 9, 1949 as Gloria Fowles in Newark, New Jersey. After high school, she spent nearly a decade singing in a string of semi-regular nightclub gigs, and touring the chitterling circuit, performing standards alongside the latest Top 40 hits with house bands up and down the east coast. She recorded her first single, “She’ll Be Sorry” for Johnny Nash’s Jocida Records in 1965. Nash also recommended she change her name to the alliterative “Gloria Gaynor,” in the hopes that people would call her by the catchy “G.G.” (a nickname that stuck). Throughout the second half of the 1960s and the first half of the 1970s, she and her band, City Life, achieved some renown with their upbeat disco sound, playing venues around the East and Midwest.
