2020 PARTNERSHIP PROPOSAL 2020 PARTNERSHIP PROPOSAL Respectfully Submitted By: Contacts: Calgary Pride 103-223 12 Ave SW Parker Chapple Calgary, AB, T2R0G9 Executive Director calgarypride.ca Direct Line: (587) 966-0000 Email: [email protected] Shone Thistle President Direct Line: (403)819-5926 Email: [email protected] Thank you for your interest in partnering with Calgary Pride! Please find enclosed the economic impact of Calgary Pride, organizational information and a proposed opportunity for your review. At Calgary Pride, we aim to provide impactful engagement opportunities and significant community profile for partners who share our vision of a diverse, inclusive Calgary. Last year was momentous for Calgary Pride; we experienced the highest reported attendance, 100,000, and 177 entries in the parade, concluded a week of over 50 events in ten days! And we know we could not have accomplished any of this without the support of our many partners. An economic impact study completed in partnership with Tourism Calgary for the 2016 year highlights the value of the festival in supporting our wonderfully diverse and inclusive economy here in Calgary, with a reported $2.7 million contributed to Alberta’s GDP and 21 full-time jobs being supported. Taking into consideration the growth of Calgary Pride since that time, we know the impact is even higher than that! As we continue to face economic challenges in our city and province, it is important that we continue to stand together, not only as champions for diversity, equity and inclusion in our communities, but of our economies. The LGBT tourism industry in Canada is worth $8.5 billion, with 55% of this being spent within Canada. According to a recent LGBT tourism study, people still feel Calgary is a conservative space, with LGBT travelers preferring to visit Saskatoon and Winnipeg. As Calgary Pride continues to grow our signature Calgary Pride Festival and expand our annual programming, we are working to shift this perception and promote Calgary as a diverse, inclusive destination. In 2020 the Pride Festival will be hosted at the Calgary Stampede Ground, Calgary’s premier festival and event venue. And the expanded parade will now travel down 9th ave, ensuring maximum attendance opportunities and premier viewing for members and friends of Calgary’s gender and sexually diverse communities. We are confident that the community profile offered within the Parade route, at the Pride Festival, and throughout our multifaceted partner recognition strategies will provide significant value to your business. Thank you for considering this invitation to join in a winning partnership with Calgary Pride, helping showcase Calgary as a diverse and inclusive city to live, work, and play! Yours truly, Shone Thistle, CFRE Parker Chapple President, Board of Directors Executive Director ABOUT CALGARY PRIDE: With more than 40 years of history, Calgary Pride is a volunteer led, non-profit organization with significant roots in Calgary and passionate commitment to the communities we serve. Calgary Pride’s mandate is to advance visibility and inclusion for Calgary’s gender and sexually diverse communities. To do this we endeavour to build strong community partnerships, implement ongoing programs like Reading with Royalty, and produce Calgary’s premier celebration of diversity, our annual Calgary Pride Parade and Festival. In order to achieve success we rely upon the generous support of our members and community partners. You ensure that we can continue to offer a free annual celebration of diversity to all Calgarians. And your investment allows us to offer enhanced programming throughout the year, bringing us closer to a city free from discrimination against gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. Over the course of our 2016 Festival, through the support of Tourism Calgary and the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance, a professional Economic Impact Assessment was performed to measure the financial impact and benefit of the Calgary Pride Festival, and demonstrate the value of the event to our city, province and nation. We have gathered the key highlights of this report below, which show just how substantial the impact of the Calgary Pride Festival has become. It is also worth noting that according to Calgary Police Service the public’s engagement with Calgary Pride has grown more than 50 per cent since this study was completed, drawing more than 75,000 visitors to the Parade and Pride in the Park!
