CO-CREATING THE STORY OF LIFE BETWEEN FREDERIKSBERG’S BUIL DINGS HIDDEN GEMS N ordreF asanvejKvarteret How temporary CO- CREATIVE urbanism fosters social networks and reveals existing potentials Anaïs Lora 45 ECTS MSc Thesis June 2013 Supervisors Anne Tietjen Trine Agervig Carstensen Jeff Risom Centre for Forest & Landscape Faculty of Science University of Copenhagen ABSTRACT Anaïs Lora ‘‘Born in Paris, I graduated from the Paris Ecole Spéciale des Travaux Publics with a Masters in Building Engineering and from Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris La Villette with a Bachelors in Architecture. Looking for a holistic understanding of the urban environment and its complex and multi-layered interaction with people, I am currently completing my Master’s degree at Copenhagen University MR XLI ½IPH SJ 0ERHWGETI %VGLMXIGXYVI and Urban Design. Through a realization that people are the key in developing regenerative neighbourhoods, I am now venturing into co-creative urbanism.’’ The Story of Frederiksberg’s Hidden Gems explores co-creative urbanism Sandra B. Helgason Alexandra Chairetaki through the process analysis of a temporary intervention, Frederiksberg’s Hidden Gems, that took place on Kong Georgs Vej and Dronning Olgas Vej on Friday the 31st of May 2013 and was realised together with local citizens, Frederiksberg Experience (the union of Frederiksberg’s local businesses), different departments of the Municipality of Frederiksberg and the student association, Creative Roots. The intervention had multi-layered purposes: to create synergies between the existing networks, to reveal the qualities of the neighbourhood, its residents and activities, and to engage the locals into a meaningful transformation of their neighbourhood. Before becoming the initiator and coordinator of Frederikbserg’s Hidden Gems, I founded the association Creative Roots in August 2012. After building up the association network through other projects, I used it as a tool to navigate between Lucia De Luca The Co|Urbanists the different stakeholders in order to create the necessary synergies that brought this thesis project to life. This book offers an overview of the background setting, the realization process, the local people, their activities and networks. I relate here details on the co-creative process, its successes and failures, its synchronicities and challenges, while drawing out local knowledge of the area’s social networks and activities, practical learning on civic engagement tools and recommendations for co-creation applied to starting a local urban renewal program. The Supervisors Trine Agervig Carstensen 45 ECTS MSc Thesis The Story of Frederiksberg’s Hidden Gems reports my individual thesis project, Student Anaïs Lora - pfh904 which takes its roots in a thesis group work of preliminary analysis that is presented in the book Common Ground, realized by the four ‘Co|Urbanists’.
