Application for a Hackney Horse Society Passport

Application for a passport for a Hackney Horse or Pony, or a Part-bred Hackney Horse or Pony should be made using the current registration forms. All applications for the registration of pure-bred and part- bred Hackney foals must be received 6 months from date of birth or before 31 st December of the year of birth, whichever is longer. All registrations of pure bred Hackneys are subject to DNA parentage testing to prove parentage at the expense of the applicant, payment for DNA kit must be received prior to any kits being forwarded. Appropriate registration fee to be sent when returning the passport application. If the application for a passport is received after 31 December in the year if birth, part II of Section IX of the passport will be signed and stamped by the Society, irreversibly removing the animal from the human food chain, as required by horse passport legislation.

The identification diagram on the application form must be completed by a registered veterinary surgeon. The vet will also implant a microchip into the animal concerned, having first checked for evidence of any previously implanted micro-chip. The position of the micro-chip should be noted on the Identification diagram. The vet should also collect, verify and sign the hair samples for DNA records from the foal being identified. The vet must draw the outline of each chestnut in the appropriate square for all horses without markings and with less than three whorls.

The form should then be sent to the Society, together with the required fee for registration, the DNA hair sample collected by the vet to be forwarded to the appropriate DNA testing authority. Failure to provide any of these requirements correctly may lead to delays in issuing the passport. A minimum of 25 working days from the date the applicant forwarded the DNA sample to the relevant testing authority is required before a passport is able to be issued.
