Over her career she continued to develop her expertise with a variety of public and private sector positions including initiating an urban fishing program with Toronto and Region Conservation/Ministry of Natural Resources and 16 years as an environmental consultant with Gartner Lee Limited (1989-2005) undertaking a variety of environmental projects throughout Ontario and in a variety of sectors. In 2005 Deborah left the private sector to become Director of the Ecology Division of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and in 2013 became the Chief Administrative Officer of the Credit Valley Conservation Authority. In these roles she has participated in the research and development of new policies, practices and guidance based on research and monitoring. Such endeavours included headwater tributaries, low impact development, natural heritage systems and compensation, watershed plans, and green infrastructure. She is one of the founding members and currently serves as Chair of the Green Infrastructure Ontario Coalition. Seeing a need among conservation authorities she founded Conservation Authorities University, an executive training program for CA staff. Over the course of her career she has held progressive roles managing multidisciplinary teams of environmental specialists in the fields of geoenvironmental, watershed planning, terrestrial and aquatic ecology, flood risk and infrastructure, water resources engineering, source water protection, and environmental monitoring. Her greatest source of pride is the number of young conservation professionals that she has had the opportunity to mentor and work with over the years. In addition to her work she spent 12 years as a volunteer with the Don Watershed Regeneration Council, is currently a Director of the Muskoka Lakes Association and has been recently appointed as a Director of the Walkerton Clean Water Centre.

Our Mission To be recognized as an innovative comprehensive university that provides an education that is about how to think, not what to think. We Believe….

We believe our students make Lakehead University different. We believe that our students want an innovative comprehensive university where they have the highest chance of success. We believe that our students have the passion and drive to realize their dreams and succeed. We believe that our students want the intellectual freedom to pursue the unconventional. We believe in the diversity that comes from our students of many cultures and many nations. We believe that our students are passionate about both their own individuality and their communities.
