The deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mitchell, of Millbrook, and was born and spent his early life in that Village. He came to Marmora about twenty years ago and was employed as shoemaker by Mr. J. D. Narrie. In 1916 the late Norman Mitchell enlisted with the 155th Battalion. Because of his trade he was appointed Battalion shoemaker with rank of sergeant. When his Battalion was absorbed in England he was transferred to the Regimental Depot at Seaford, where he continued to follow his trade. After demobilization he returned to Marmora for a time. About thirteen years ago the late Norman Mitchell was married to Dorothy, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jones, who survives him. For a few years they resided in Toronto and then returned to Marmora, where the deceased carried on a shoe repair business. He was an expert workman and had the respect and esteem of those he came in contact with He was a member of St. Andrew's United Church and was also a member of Marmora Band as long as his health permitted, being very fond of music. Besides his widow the late Mr. Mitchell is survived by two sisters, Mrs. W. Chessman and Miss Delia Mitchell, both of Toronto. After the scripture reading Messrs. W. A. Sanderson and G. Woodhouse sang "When my Soul Reacheth Home" in a very impressive manner. Rev. Hollingsworth spoke on immortality, his text being "If a man die, shall he live again." taken from the book of Job. His sermon was a very striking one and gave unanswerable reasons for believing in immortality. His references to the deceased also found a responsive chord in the hearts of his hearers. As the procession left, the Church the choir sang sweetly "The Old Rugged Cross." Just before the benediction Rev. C. W. Hollingsworth expressed appreciation of the attendance of the veterans and asked God's blessing on their organization.
