School Bus Services in Rochdale September 2018 to July 2019 School Bus Services in Rochdale September 2018 to July 2019 Services in this leaflet operate on schooldays only, unless otherwise stated. Although provided primarily for school students, members of the public may use these services with the exception of Yellow School Buses. Services are listed alphabetically under school names. Rochdale Schools 2018-2019 website - 1 - 20/07/18 An introduction to School buses and concessionary fares for students in Greater Manchester Passengers can pay a fare to the driver for each journey shown on this timetable. However, students will need to show an IGO pass to travel at the concessionary (reduced) fare. If students do not have an IGO pass, they will have to pay a higher fare. Most of the journeys shown in this timetable are funded by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). The majority of TfGM funded services charge a standard fare and also offer daily return tickets. In some cases, the return ticket can also be used for travel on other journeys which serve similar areas – even if it is provided by a different operator. On most services, students can also buy a weekly scholar’s ticket, which costs £7.30. These are ONLY valid on schooldays on school buses and are available from the bus driver on all services where they are applicable. To help the driver, please try to have the correct fare when buying your ticket. A summary of fares and ticketing information on all school services included in this timetable can be found at https://www.tfgm.com/tickets-and-passes/bus-school-bus-services There are also a small number of TfGM funded services where the operator sets the fares. You will need to check with the operator what fares are available. Yellow School Buses This timetable also shows the journeys operated by Yellow School Buses. Yellow School Bus journeys have special travel conditions and can only be used by students who hold a Yellow School Bus pass which is valid for that journey. Students who wish to use a Yellow School Bus should go to https://www.tfgm.com/tickets-and-passes/bus-yellow-school-buses for details on how to apply for a pass. The IGO Pass All students between the ages of 11 and 16 need an IGO pass if they wish to travel at the concessionary (reduced fare) rate on buses. The IGO pass is like an ID card and proves that the student is aged 16 or under. It must be carried on all journeys and shown to the driver before paying the fare. The IGO pass costs £10 and can only be bought by students who live, or go to school in Greater Manchester. The DfE will not guarantee when the schools will open until planning consent for the schools is guaranteed and until a date for practical completion is set. 1.2 Until that date the council must work to meet its statutory obligation to offer every child living in the borough a place in Secondary school. 1.3 The Schools Organisation and Development Team are working closely with the DfE to deliver the new schools as soon as possible but must also plan for the scenario where any new school places are delayed. This report details these plans. Recommendation 2.1 That Cabinet approve the release of funds from Basic Need capital funding to deliver additional places at Wardle Academy for 2021 and 2022 as detailed in appendix 1. 2.2 That Cabinet recognise that the delivery of our much needed Secondary schools through the central government Free school programme leaves the council dependent on timings and decisions by central government with regards to the delivery of those schools, and consequently puts at risk delivery of its statutory duty to offer a school place to every child living in the borough. 2.3 That Cabinet approve the release of funds from Basic Need capital funding to meet the need to deliver 120 additional places for September 2021 in existing borough Secondary schools, as detailed in appendix 1.

The referral 1. Under section 88H(2) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (the Act) an objection has been referred to the adjudicator by a parent (the objector) about the admission arrangements (the arrangements) for the community secondary schools in Rochdale for September 2020. The objection is that the priority given to children on the basis of the proximity of their homes to the nearest school is unfair to some pupils. 2. The parties to this objection are the objector and Rochdale Borough Council (the local authority). Jurisdiction 3. These arrangements were determined under section 88C of the Act on 25 February 2019 by the local authority, which is the admission authority for the schools. The objector submitted her objection to these determined arrangements on 2 May 2019. I am satisfied the objection has been properly referred to me in accordance with section 88H of the Act and it is within my jurisdiction. 4. Regulation 22 of The School Admissions (Admission Arrangements and Co- ordination of Admission Arrangements) (England) Regulations 2012 says “For the purposes of section 88H(5)(d), where the adjudicator has determined an objection to the admission arrangements of a school or Academy, no objection may be referred to the adjudicator raising the same or substantially the same issues in relation to those admission arrangements within 2 years of the decision by the adjudicator.” Determination REF3486 made by the adjudicator in December 2018 considered similar issues to those in this objection.

    16th December 2019 Dear Parents/Carers As you will be aware, the autumn term finishes for Christmas at lunchtime on Thursday 19th December. The new spring term begins for all students on Monday, 6th January 2020. As school finishes at 12:15pm on the last day, lunch will not be being served; however, students who are entitled to a free school lunch may collect lunch from the dining room before they leave. To ensure that we make enough lunches, students will need to give their name to Miss Hughes in the school office no later than 10am Wednesday 18th December. Charities We are proud that Middleton Technology School has a strong community spirit and also actively supports charities. Staff are currently supporting the Mission Christmas Toy Appeal, and students have been donating food items for the Middleton Food bank. We would really like to thank you for your support with this. Every year, we raise money for one charity. As always, we ask the community of Middleton Technology School to help us identify charities close to the community’s heart, which the Student Council then shortlists to four charities. In 2019, we were able to raise an amazing £10,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust. A HUGE thank you to everyone who was involved in raising money for this worthwhile charity. In 2020, staff and students voted for Papyrus, a charity which focuses on mental health and the prevention of suicide in young people. The Student Council members did a superb job of organising the votes to ensure that everybody had the chance to have their say.
