Today is Commitment Weekend. We will be giving those who have not yet made their pledge to the Annual Catholic Appeal an opportunity to do so today. If you are not able to make a pledge, please consider a one-time gift. Each one of us is Christ to all we meet. This Appeal allows the Catholic Church throughout South to do so much good. Please be generous in helping to fund the ministries of the Diocese.

I am so very grateful to Betty Jane Hendrix who will be sharing at our Masses this weekend her experience as a volunteer at the Social Apostolate in Savannah. Several of our parishioners’ volunteer there every week. And the ACA helps with the funding of the good work they do. The Social Apostolate of Savannah’s mission is to be a witness to the biblical values of charity & justice in the city of Savannah by caring for and empowering the poor, the homeless, the disabled, and the “At Risk” of the Savannah area since 1968.

Walker and Betty Beeson brought this back from their trip to .

Portions of a recent letter from Bishop Dewane, Diocese of Venice in Florida:

“All parishes/missions/chapels in the Diocese of Venice in Florida are being asked to take the following precautions to help mitigate the spread and effects of the Flu:

• The Faithful should be encouraged to share the Sign of Peace without touching hands. This can be done with meaningful eye contact, smiles, or a bow of the head in reverence to one another. • Priests, Deacons, and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion should be reminded of the importance of practicing good hygiene. All Ministers of Holy communion should wash their hands before and after Mass. • The Faithful should be encouraged not to hold hands during the recitation of the Our Father.

The bishop also reminds us that it is not a sin to miss Mass if one is sick. To the contrary, not attending Mass if you have a contagious disease is an act of charity to your fellow parishioners.”

The directive also said that the Precious Blood is not to be shared until further notice. However, I have problems with that. So just use your good judgement.

Fr. Jerry Ragan
