Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. McBride and his family as they mourn the death of his Dad, Mr. Dennis McBride. He was a man who believed that creating an authentically loving community was the major challenge of Christian living. And through his work as a founding member and for many years as leader of the Alleluia Community few men have met that challenge better than Dennis McBride. He made the love of Christ a living reality for his family, the members of the Alleluia Community, and so many people beyond. We are so very blessed to have his son as our parish school principal. Mr. McBride buried his Dad this past Monday and then turned around to finish the final preparations for the Florida Catholic Conference (FCC) accreditation team’s visit. The Team arrived on Wednesday and concluded their site evaluation on Friday. St. Mary School earned its FCC accreditation in 1998 and 2005 and hopefully has now met all the requirements for reaccredidation. It is a very detailed process and both Mr. McBride and Ms. Ellen Hoffman did outstanding work in helping the staff, faculty, students and parents prepare for it. I am grateful for their leadership and I thank the entire School Community for all the great work that they did. There was a time when Joe McBride was our assistant principal and a pastor from Savannah tried to hire him away from our school. I am so very happy that Mr. McBride decided to stay. As Principal he has brought a renewed energy to St. Mary School. He like his Dad is very much a man of faith. He brings the Love of Christ to his work every day. He is focused on celebrating our Catholic faith, building relationships in the school community, and providing both teachers and students with the basic resources they will need to achieve excellence in and through Catholic education. And I am grateful to all in our parish who support our school by being good stewards of all that God has entrusted to you. As partners in the mission of the Church, you are investing not just in Catholic education, but in the formation of our children by providing them with a living experience of the Gospel. There may be other ways to form future leaders of the Church but in my opinion there is no better place to form the future leaders of the Church than in our parish school. Ways to support St. Mary on the Hill School: Volunteerism - When most people think of supporting a school, they think solely in terms of financial support. But at St. Mary’s, we need your support in many ways that don’t require you to write a check! We are always looking for volunteers to assist with various projects around school. From coaching a sports team, to helping with the school carnival, to assisting the teachers as a homeroom parent, we have the job for you! Annual Msgr. Costigan Golf Tournament – Last year over $15,000 was raised for the School Endowment Fund and a good time was had by all this year on April 20th. I am grateful to our major sponsors: Taylor Hyundai, Pollock Company, Rhodes Financial Services, St. Francis Animal Hospital, Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors, and Brynwood Swim and Raquet Club. In addition to these sponsors we are always grateful to the many “hole” sponsors who help underwrite the expenses associated with the tournament. GRACE Scholars - (Georgia Residents Assisting Children’s Education) Don’t Get Locked Out! Submit Your Tax Credit Request Today! Please ACT NOW if you plan to redirect your GA state taxes and give a child the opportunity to attend St. Mary School through tuition assistance. The state allows $51.5M to be redirected to this great cause and $13M has already been approved. Please call Mary Davis for more information, 706-733-6627. Endowment Giving - An endowed gift is a gift that keeps on giving. The endowment provides a second source of stable revenue for the school in addition to your stewardship efforts. St. Mary’s is committed to building a strong endowment in order to continue to deliver greater value and attain higher levels of quality than would otherwise be possible. What is an endowment? An endowment has funds set aside permanently so that only a portion of the earnings is spent on an annual basis. An endowed gift is one in which the original principal is never touched, only a small percentage of the earnings are used for the purpose the endowment has specified, such as technology updates.

  • Dear Friends in the Risen Lord, the Church Knows How to Celebrate
Dear friends in the Risen Lord, The Church knows how to celebrate, and in normal times we pull out all the stops in the liturgies of the Sacred Triduum and Easter. But these are not normal times. I’m very proud of our team who very quickly arranged for the livestreaming of those liturgies and brought them to life with such stark beauty, but obviously something was missing: YOU! Daily Mass at IHM is live- streamed Monday-Friday I so missed the opportunity to wash your feet and see you wash one another’s; I missed at 8:30 a.m. praying for you as you came forward to venerate the Cross; I missed celebrating Baptism, Sunday Mass is live- Confirmation and Eucharist with our parish’s Elect and Candidates. I’m consoled to learn that many hundreds of households are participating in our livestreamed liturgies or viewing them streamed on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (English) later in the archive. But please know that I very much miss being with you in person. and 6:00 p.m. (Spanish) Last Sunday we began a 50-day celebration of the Lord’s victory over sin and death. But Masses remain on our how are we to keep our “Easter duty” in a year like this one, when there’s nowhere to go to website for a week for those feel like we’ve done something? It will have to be this: to look around and remember where who would like to view the signs of Easter’s victory are.
