Si més no, en relació amb el valor aportat per les descobertes sobre el nostre passat i la transcendència que han tingut en el coneixement de les baules que han lligat l’evolució de la nostra espècie, del món natural i geològic, i de la configuració dels diversos hàbitats. És precisament molt important que, de tant en tant, s’apleguin –com ho és en tots els camps de la investigació i el saber– els treballs fets en aquestes disciplines, tant per tenir una mirada macroscòpica de tot allò rellevant que s’ha desxifrat en el territori, com per anar teixint la madeixa del coneixement del nostre origen, de la nostra identitat, i de la nostra acció sobre el medi; o el que és el mateix, de com hem transformat els hàbitats i la terra i com hem afaiçonat les formes de vida i de pensament. Durant anys s’hi han esmerçat moltes hores d’investigació, d’estudi i una bona colla de recursos personals, econòmics i estratègics, i s’han teixit un munt de complicitats institucionals, intel·lectuals, socials i emocionals. A redós d’aquestes activitats han nascut centres d’estudis, revistes especialitzades o seccions de revistes culturals locals i comarcals. I s’han bastit col·leccions, s’han obert museus, s’han creat llocs de treball especialitzats i, en conseqüència també, s’ha desenvolupat una economia cultural. De manera que, mitjançant tot aquest treball i les seves derivacions, s’ha consolidat un patrimoni que ens permet imprimir fortaleses al coneixement de la nostra història i carregar de valor afegit tant la nostra geografia física com la nostra geografia social. Molts dels municipis i pobles del nostre territori així que s’han anat treballant els jaciments i valorant-ne els materials, han esdevingut autèntics centres d’interès cultural universals. L’edició dels treballs de les jornades pretén, a part de donar compte de l’activitat que s’hi realitzà, reunir en un volum els estudis que sobre la matèria s’hagin pogut publicar per separat, posar-los en línia, i poder-los llegir com una memòria de la tasca que s’ha dut a terme durant cinc anys en aquestes disciplines científiques. Del que es tracta, doncs és tant de compendiar aquests treballs, com de difondre’ls i posar-los a l’abast no només dels professionals i els estudiants d’aquestes disciplines, sinó de tota la societat. La compartició social del coneixement és un dels antídots, òbviament, contra la ignorància, però sobretot contra el desinterès i la indiferència. La divulgació de la recerca, i molt especialment la que va lligada als orígens de la humanitat, és, insistim, un mitjà elemental perquè puguem valorar molt millor i apreciar en la seua justa mesura la feina feta, la inversió de recursos econòmics, materials, personals i institucionals, esmerçada, i la qualitat consegüent de la seua gestió museística i divulgadora. BMC Evolutionary Biology 2013, 13:203 http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2148/13/203 RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access A new xinjiangchelyid turtle from the Middle Jurassic of Xinjiang, China and the evolution of the basipterygoid process in Mesozoic turtles Márton Rabi1,2*, Chang-Fu Zhou3, Oliver Wings4, Sun Ge3 and Walter G Joyce1,5 Abstract Background: Most turtles from the Middle and Late Jurassic of Asia are referred to the newly defined clade Xinjiangchelyidae, a group of mostly shell-based, generalized, small to mid-sized aquatic froms that are widely considered to represent the stem lineage of Cryptodira. Xinjiangchelyids provide us with great insights into the plesiomorphic anatomy of crown-cryptodires, the most diverse group of living turtles, and they are particularly relevant for understanding the origin and early divergence of the primary clades of extant turtles. Results: Exceptionally complete new xinjiangchelyid material from the ?Qigu Formation of the Turpan Basin (Xinjiang Autonomous Province, China) provides new insights into the anatomy of this group and is assigned to Xinjiangchelys wusu n. sp. A phylogenetic analysis places Xinjiangchelys wusu n. sp. in a monophyletic polytomy with other xinjiangchelyids, including Xinjiangchelys junggarensis, X. radiplicatoides, X. levensis and X. latiens. However, the analysis supports the unorthodox, though tentative placement of xinjiangchelyids and sinemydids outside of crown-group Testudines. A particularly interesting new observation is that the skull of this xinjiangchelyid retains such primitive features as a reduced interpterygoid vacuity and basipterygoid processes.

    ONOMÀSTICA BIBLIOTECA TÈCNICA DE POLÍTICA LINGÜÍSTICA La vacil·lació accentual de l’onomàstica d’Andorra i l’Alt Urgell: una romanalla del substrat basc a l’Alt Pirineu? Xavier Planas Batlle, Xavier Rull DOI: 10.2436/15.8040.01.293 Resum Joan Coromines, basant-se en la toponímia, va indicar que a l’Alt Pirineu català (Ribagorça, Pallars, Alt Urgell, Andorra) s’hi parlava basc abans de l’arribada del llatí o del romanç. Actualment, però, es tendeix a no associar les parles pirinenques preromanes del sud de la carena amb el basc antic. En aquesta comunicació volem donar compte d’una característica fonètica pròpia del parlar andorrà: la vacil·lació accentual en els noms propis (inexistent en noms comuns). Volem constatar que, dins el domini lingüístic català, aquest fenomen és una particularitat molt localitzada geogràficament a Andorra i entorns; i que podria tenir a veure amb el substrat preromà, per tal com enllaçaria amb un tret fonètic del basc actual, la manca d’accentuació. ***** 1. Plantejament: la natura de les parles pirinenques preromanes1 Un dels aspectes més controvertits de la lingüística històrica és què es parlava a l’Alt Pirineu català (Ribagorça, Pallars, Alt Urgell, Andorra) abans que hi arribés la llengua catalana. Corresponding author Abstract The olive ridley sea turtle is a species that presents an exclusive and extremely gregarious mass nesting behavior termed “arribada”, which has only been documented in a few countries around the world. Based on satellite observations we assess the presence of hydrographic mesoscale structures and chlorophyll-a concentrations at three nesting sites (La Escobilla in Mexico, Ostional in Costa Rica, and Gahirmatha in India) in order to determine whether their presence is linked to the olive ridley sea turtle “arribada” events. The results showed the persistence of cold cores and high chlorophyll-a concentrations associated with mesoscale eddies at nesting zones suggesting their utilization by the turtles and might also indicate an ability of the sea turtles to adapt to each nesting site.

In this study we determined the hatching and emergence success of green turtles Chelonia mydas from nests on 4 beaches on the Galápagos Islands, one of the most important rookeries for green turtles in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Mean (±SD) hatching and emergence success for the 1039 nests examined were 46.0 ± 33.4 and 45.6 ± 33.4%, respectively. These values are relatively low compared to other green turtle populations worldwide. We evaluated the effects of beach, year, day of oviposition, carapace length and width of female, nest position, nest habitat, and nest chamber depth on hatching and emergence success with binomial generalized additive models with fixed effects. We found variation in hatching and emergence success was significant among beaches, years, day of oviposition, and nest habitat.     Reinterpretation of the Spanish Late Jurassic “Hispaniachelys prebetica” as an indeterminate plesiochelyid turtle ADÁN PÉREZ-GARCÍA Pérez-García, A. 2014. Reinterpretation of the Spanish Late Jurassic “Hispaniachelys prebetica” as an indeterminate plesiochelyid turtle. Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 59 (4): 879–885. A partial postcranial skeleton (carapace, plastron, and other poorly preserved elements) of a turtle, from the late Ox- fordian of the Betic Range of Spain, has recently been assigned to a new taxon, Hispaniachelys prebetica. This is one of the few European turtle taxa reported from pre-Kimmeridgian levels, and the oldest turtle so far known from southern Europe. The character combination identified in that taxon (including the presence of cleithra, and single cervical scale) did not allow its assignment to Plesiochelyidae, a group of turtles very abundant and diverse in the Late Jurassic of Eu- rope. The revision of the single specimen assigned to this taxon led to the reinterpretation of some of its elements, being reassigned to Plesiochelyidae. This study confirms the presence of Plesiochelyidae in the Oxfordian. However, because the Spanish taxon does not present a unique combination of characters, it is proposed as a nomen dubium.
