COMMUNITY SERVICE - 3RD PLACE MEDIUM

In September 2020, the , in partnership with the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle (ULMS), launched our 25 Alive Campaign to increase awareness of the financials struggles that many of our local, African American owned businesses were facing due to COVID restrictions and encourage our local community to support local businesses on a regular, ongoing basis by spending at least $25 a week with a Black-owned business. As part of the campaign, we ran weekly ads and a website campaign for 50 local businesses in our newspaper, at little to no-charge, from September 9, 2020 until the end of February 2021 (Black History Month) surrounded by messaging encouraging our readers to support these businesses in order to help them keep their doors open and their employees working through during a time when many businesses were closing their doors and laying off workers. In addition, we produced stories, conducted interviews on our weekly radio program and published podcasts on our website (seattlemedium.com) with business owners highlighting their business and the campaign. The campaign generated a broad base of support and led to increased cash flow for many of the businesses as a result of the campaign.
