His 2 brothers, both bishops and his sister are also canonized saints. Leander became a monk in Seville and eventually the bishop of the city. He was instrumental in converting the two sons of the Arian Visigothic King Leovigild, Hermenegild and Reccared. This angered the king who exiled to Constantinople. There he met the Papal Legate, the future Pope Gregory the Great. It was Leander who suggested that Gregory write the famous commentary on the Book of ! !called the Moralia. Once back home, under King Reccared, Leander began his life work of propagating !Christian !orthodoxy !against the Arians in Spain. The 3 rd local Council of Toledo, over which he presided, decreed the consubstantiality of the 3 Persons of the Trinity and brought about moral reforms. Leander's unerring wisdom and unflagging dedication led the Visigoths back to the true Faith !and obtained the gratitude of Gregory the Great. He was the first to introduce the Nicene !Creed !at Mass. Leander died around the year 600 and was succeeded as bishop of !Seville !by his brother St. Isidore. ! BǂǚǐǏǏdž, NJ ! THE WEEK AT A GLANCE !
