GOD BLESS ECUMENICAL PATRIARCH BARTHOLOMEW

Since ascending to the Apostolic and First Throne of the Orthodox Christian World in Constantinople in 1991, he has been a constant positive presence both for his Orthodox flock and the global community.

We thank him for being the “Green Patriarch,” for being steadfast in his defense of the Patriarchate, and for opening doors for healthy cooperation and communication with people of other faiths and traditions.

The Twentieth Anniversary of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew’s patriarchy on the first throne of the Orthodox Church is a historic event which has touched and influenced world orthodoxy in many ways. Patriarch Bartholomew’s sensitivity towards the natural environment has raised awareness throughout the world that the environment is the creation of God, full of grace, harmony and sacredness which should be preserved as God’s Divine gift to the whole of humanity.

Patriarch Bartholomew during these twenty years has managed to make the Phanar more visible on the world scene, and has served as the keeper of Chris - tianity in its original form and expression.

We as Greek Americans respect and honor Patriarch Bartholomew as he celebrates the 20th year of his patriarchy, but we are also mindful of the great responsibility he has towards the ecclesiastical life of our Greek American Community - After all he is in charge of the selection of our Archbishop and the Hierarchs.

The Twentieth Anniversary of the enthronement of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew is a good time for the Greek American Community to reflect on the place of the Orthodox Church in the World. First, we remember with gratitude and pride how he has influenced the Orthodox Church and the wider world. He has raised awareness that the environment is the creation of God and a Divine gift to all human beings. He has also championed the rights of the Patriarchate of Constantinople and religious freedom for all.

And as we also look to the future we pray that God grant him health and many more years as the spiritual leader of 250 million Orthodox Christians. Eις πολλά Ετη Δέσποτα 18 20th Anniversary of Patriarch Bartholomew’s Enthronement THE NATIONAL HERALD, NOVEMBER 5, 2011

I thank God for the many blessings he has bestowed upon myself and my family.

If I could single out the most three momentous and sacred ones, these would be, first, that I was born Greek Orthodox in Greece; second, that I was able to come to the United States and establish a family based on the values and ideals of Orthodoxy and Hellenism; and third, that I got to know His All Holiness Ecumenical Bartholomew, a man of God, a man of vision, a world leader who has taken the Orthodox Church to new spiritual heights.

On the historic occasion of the 20th Anniversary of his God-blessed tenure as Patriarch, we extend our heartfelt wishes and pray to the Almighty to keep him safe, and to grant Him health and strength to continue His holy mission .

Respectfully,

Stephanos and Areti Cherpelis
