THE AMBER ROUTE
Die Inseln des Cres- Lošinj Archipels nannte man DER BERNSTEINWEG in der Antike umfassend Apsyrtides. Der Name stammt von dem griechischen Helden Apsyrtos, einem der Protagonisten der mythologischen Geschichte über die Argonauten, die genau hier, in den oberen Gebieten der Adria, den hartnäckigen Verfolgern entfliehen konnten. Auf ihrem Schiff Argo führte Jason aus Kolchis (die heutige Kaukasusküste am Schwarzen Meer) das Goldene Vlies mit sich. Jason trat Absyrtus, mithilfe dessen Schwester Medea, bei diesen Inseln entgegen, überwältigte und zerstückelte ihn und warf seine Glieder ins Meer. So erhielt auch die Stadt Apsoros (Osor) ihren Namen. Der antike Bernstein- bzw. Argonautenweg ist die älteste europäische Kommunikationstransversale, die den Norden und
den Süden des Kontinents miteinander verbindet.
