The of , based at Park, , received its Royal Charter in 1965. It is of the UK's leading academic institutions and has an international reputation for the quality of its research and teaching. The University has 17 departments spanning the Humanities, Social Sciences and Science & Engineering.

We were named University of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards 2018.

Other requirements All applicants MUST provide us with colour copies of the following documents:  Passport (information page)  Academic Transcript  English language certificate (if nationality is a non-native English speaking country) Language Requirements  Non-EU/EEA nationals studying for more than 6 months (requiring a Tier 4 visa) - IELTS: 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each element (requirement of the Tier 4 visa) - TOEFL iBT: 76 overall with a minimum of 17 listening & writing, 18 reading, 20 speaking – further details can be found here.  EU/EEA nationals or Non-Tier 4 applicants requiring a short term visa: minimum requirements can be found here. If the student’s home university tuition language is at least 50% English, it is not necessary to provide a language certificate. We will however require proof of this from the home university. A language certificate provided by the home university to certify that the student has at least CEFR B2 level will also be accepted. Regular bus service to town centre and local destinations with stops on campus. Direct shuttle service to Stansted Airport. On Arrivals Day (Autumn term only) the University operates a direct coach service to the campus from either Heathrow or Gatwick. Students are only permitted to take modules from the Colchester or Southend campus. It is not possible to take modules from across both campuses. Students are not permitted to take non-credited modules. Accommodation Types of University maintained We offer single bedrooms with shared kitchen facilities and either accommodation shared or en-suites bathroom. If students are studying at Colchester they must only select accommodation at our Colchester campus, students wishing to study at Southend must only select accommodation at our Southend campus.

Essex Sports Membership is included in the on campus accommodation fee. On campus accommodation We cannot guarantee on campus accommodation for student’s availability studying for one semester unless we have an agreement in place with the partner university. If you are eligible for on campus accommodation, we will provide you with the relevant information once your application has been submitted including deadlines.

Private accommodation If you are not eligible for on campus accommodation or do not wish to apply for campus accommodation the Student Union offers assistance to find private local accommodation options. Holiday Arrangements Accommodation remains open during the Christmas and Easter holidays. All students are required to vacate their rooms at the end of the Summer term or Autumn term (depending on duration of study). You are able to leave your accommodation early if your exams finish before the end of term but you will be liable to pay your fees until the end of your contract. Accommodation application Accommodation is arranged via Essex Abroad and students will be deadline notified in August/September for October entry and in December for January entry. Students are not able to use the online Accommodation Application. Accommodation fee We offer a range of different types of accommodation, from shared facilities to en-suite rooms. The costs of each type of accommodation varies, and can be found on-line.

Student Services Computer Services 14 computer labratories with over 600 computers, 100 of those are accessable 24 hours a day. There is university wide Wi-Fi including in all campus accomodation. Students Support We offer a range of services open to all students. Please let us know in advance if you have an on-going issue that will require support so that we can make arrangements prior to your arrival. Information Office Centrally located on campus and open 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Sports Facilities Essex Sports Membership is included in your on campus accommodation fee!

We have a great range of facilities, both indoors and outdoors at our Colchester Campus. In 2018, we launched the £12 million Essex Sport Arena which is built to international sporting standards and is available to hire. The new space boasts seating for 1,655 spectators, and includes 20 courts for basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton and futsal. Arts Events The Lakeside Theatre frequently runs professional and student productions. Art Exhibitions and Music events are held regularly. Students’ Union You are automatically a member of the Students Union when you are a student at the University of Essex and there are no fees for this. They also run the on campus shops, nightclub and bar.

Over 120 clubs and societies, radio station, student newspaper you can join.
