YMCA, 9.00am The following Saturday morning was cold and extremely wet. 6 August - AGSV Boys' A nervousness hovered within the damp atmosphere, as both Representative Teams boys and parents anticipated the AFL Football Grand Final Practice, 1.00pm between Trinity and Marcellin. Success would mean the first Grand Final win since 1976 – 36 years! 6 August - Fair Committee Meeting, The boundary of the Daley Oval was packed with spectators as Hudson House, 8.00pm the ball was bounced at 11.30am. The dominance of green and gold was apparent, as boys who had played their own 7 August - Leadership games earlier moved to the site of the major contest. Final scores were Trinity 17.9 to Marcellin 7.8. Our Team Meeting, 8.30am team got off to a somewhat shaky start, in fact, Marcellin kicked the first three goals of the game, a significant 10 August - Junior advantage in greasy conditions. But we stayed together and School AGSV Cross held our nerve. A brilliant goal from the boundary line on Country, PEGS, the siren gave us the lead at the half-time break, but more 11.30am importantly it gave us self belief and momentum. Buttressed by a stirring half time address from our Coach, and an 12 August - Victorian outbreak of sunshine, we poured on the pressure to run away Interschool Cross with the game with a truly outstanding third quarter effort. Country Skiing, Mt There was consistency of purpose and application right across Buller the field by our boys for the whole game, whether in front or behind. An inspiring performance. They did us proud.’ Yes, both of these occasions gave prominence to wonderful achievements associated with Trinity Grammar School. But even more, they were events reflective of a strong Trinity FAMILY. A further highlight took place on Saturday night with the final performance of the musical ‘Grease’. On this occasion the FAMILY who watched were members of both Trinity and Ruyton communities. The acting, singing and choreography were outstanding. The strength of the Trinity FAMILY is very much enhanced by the association with Ruyton, particularly within the Year 11 and 12 Coordinate Program. Quote for the Week: 2 of 10 31/07/2012 3:10 PM 1 August, 2012 – Term 3, Week 3 - Trinity Grammar eNewsletter http://edit.ptly.com/trinity/1-august-2012-term-3-week-3/ In football there is no substitute for victory (with apologies to Douglas MacArthur – revised by Mr Rod Lyle). MR RICHARD TUDOR (HEADMASTER) From the Senior School Back to top First XVIII Football For the first time since 1976 the Trinity First XVIII was successful in winning the AGSV Premiership, after an often close game against Marcellin at Bulleen last Saturday. Supported by a sizable crowd (of well over 2000) the team fought a tight first half. A timely goal by Joe Campbell on the half-time siren put Trinity in front. The third quarter saw Trinity pull away with many excellent passages of play. The final score was: Trinity 17.9 111 defeated Marcellin 7.8 50. It would be churlish to pick out highlights from a game which was truly a team effort. The one consistent element of this team, all season, has been the players’ willingness to work closely with each other. We would like to congratulate the following members of the Premiership team: Mark Yeoman, Thomas Young, Anthony Scott, Jay Kennedy Harris, James Nitsopoulos, Mackenzie Brown, Harry Aikman, Nicholas Meerman, Hugh Tyson, Hugh Curnow, Hugh Beasley, Luke McDonald (Co-C), Mitch Donoghue, Sam Holloway, Connor Lindsey, Duncan Moore, Seb Nicolosi (Co-C), Angus Milham, Joseph Campbell, Tom Cutler, Christos Manoussakis, James Spassopoulos, Hugh Boyle, Will Cooper, Dane Fencaros, Simon Emerson, Callan Palmer, Alex Polidoros, Matt Lasorko. The performance is a real testament to Co-Captains Seb Nicolosi and Luke McDonald and especially to coach Dr Steven Maus and his support staff, Ms Di Salvitti and Mr Tony Spassopoulos Final Round of Winter Sport Last week saw the final round of winter sport. Sport is a key component of the School and the winter season, mainly played outside in trying conditions, tests the resolve of many boys. While some teams have not performed as they would have hoped, there have been many successes. The School’s sporting program is very healthy indeed. Click here for Comparison of AGSV Schools table. We wish the First XV Rugby team all the best as they play off next weekend for a place in the finals. We would like to thank all the coaches who train and support the boys throughout the season. In particular we thank the Director of Sport, Mr Brendan Mahony, for his management of the School’s sporting program. ‘Grease’ What a performance! The Director (Mr Tim Schwerdt), Producer (Mrs Christine Lucas-Pannam), Music Director (Mr Paul Smith), cast and crew would have to be pleased with the wonderful performance that was ‘Grease’. Thanks to clever choreography from Ms Lisa Callaghan and strong ensemble and lead singing developed by vocal director Miss Jane Summers, the cast presented a musical full of energy and witty interplay between the characters. 3 of 10 31/07/2012 3:10 PM 1 August, 2012 – Term 3, Week 3 - Trinity Grammar eNewsletter http://edit.ptly.com/trinity/1-august-2012-term-3-week-3/ The leads Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski played by Daniel Beratis and Belle Power were well cast and played their parts to a very high standard. Daniel and Belle were ably supported by Annabel Rodway, Lauren Sibree, William Lodge, Dana Hehir, Ruby Mazzocco, Imogen Walsh, Danny Smith, Neil Kemister, Liam McCoppin, Max Greenham, Jasmine Hoban, Isabelle Power, Tim Ringwood, Dylan Pannam, Brittany Scott and Dennis Wang. Other members of the cast were: Alice Adams, Laura Aldous, Emma Bannister, Olivia Carey, Patrick Coleman, Taylor Connolly, Hollie Curtis, Eliza Davey, Josh Docking, Sam Gleisner, Angus Hamilton, Alex Hatzikostas, Sarah Heywood, Fred Hiskens, Sam Islip, Sophie Kleiman, Aurora Lee, Andy Lin, Thomas Little , Jennifer McFarland, Schrader McLeay, Kashi Mogensen, Sam Morrison, Jordan Mulvey, Jeremy Neylon, Josh Robertson, Renee Pantas, Harry Tibballs, Olivia Weatherson, Julia Woolrich and Winnie Wu. Often the support crew for such a production goes unthanked. A show such as this relies on split second timing and team work the production crew. Well done to Stage Manager Miss Emma Officer who was supported by Assistant Stage Manager Nicholas Roberts and an exceptional production crew.

  • Ron Clarke Scholarship 2020
Athletics International Ron Clarke Scholarship 2020 OBJECTIVE The aim of the scholarship is to provide support for a middle distance/distance athlete to achieve his or her athletic and educational potential. The recipient will be expected to uphold those values demonstrated by Ron over his life: commitment to his athletic career, his education and his subsequent working life; support of the athletics community; and dedication to his family and other important relationships. RON’S CAREER Ron Clarke was truly a “renaissance man”. His lifetime achievements include being a successful businessman, an environmental crusader, Mayor of the Gold Coast for eight years, a philanthropist and a devoted family man. But it is as a runner that Ron is best known. Ron showed that distance runners could race hard, race fearlessly and race anyone. His assault on performance barriers was stunning: in his halcyon days Ron took almost 40 seconds off the world record for 10,000 metres between December 1963 and July 1965 (36 seconds in one race), and 18 seconds off the world record for 5000 between January 1965 and July 1966. Ron won an Olympic bronze medal at 10,000 in Tokyo in 1964 and silver medals at three miles at the Perth Commonwealth Games in 1962, at three and six miles in Kingston Jamaica in 1966 and at 10,000 metres in Edinburgh in 1970. In all, he set 17 world records over the period 1963 to 1968, in events ranging from 2 miles to one hour. RON’S CONTRIBUTION TO ATHLETICS INTERNATIONAL In the late 1960s, there was a dearth of international competition in Australia.

And explained that the $100,000 allocated will be for projects as identified by the community and Council staff do not have any projects identified. Projects will be community driven. The intent of the meeting is to bring together those concerned about the revitalisation of De Soza Park and begin the process of gathering ideas and thoughts for the park. It is through the range of people around the table that their skills, networks and interest will enable the development of a big picture plan for the Park. The next stage will be to bring in people with additional skills and abilities to embellish the agreed plans and start to develop timelines and specific actions. David Searl sent his apologies due to transport problems. Graeme opened up discussion and in doing that:- - Ensured that opinion was genuinely sought for the revitalisation of the park - Council was serious about community engagement - Action would be community driven and supported by Council staff - We need to think about the bigger picture of the park and look at it as a longer term major project.
