SELF STUDY REPORT 2015 PREFACE: Karm. A. M. Patil Arts, Commerce & Kai. Annasaheb N. K. Patil Science Sr. College Pimpalner, Tehasil Sakri, Dist. Dhule is governed by Pimpalner Education Society. The college was established in June 1983 with commerce faculty & from 1985 Arts & Science faculties for providing educational facility to the undergraduate level to the masses who were economically backward and socially downtrodden, particularly tribal peoples from western zone of Sakri Tehasil. More than 85% tribal people live in this area which is far away from the main stream of the society. Previously there were no facilities for higher education to the students of this region and they had to go to Sakri or Dhule district for higher education, which was not at all feasible and affordable for common man. In such situation the college was started by a great social worker form this region Karm. Bapusaheb Anandrao Manikrao Patil, Kai. Annasaheb N. K. Patil and Kai. Dadasaheb V. K. Wani to fulfil the basic need of society. Our co-educational college was started in the humble way. By facing various difficulties, this college now becomes one of the leading college in our District. The credit goes to the management, students, teaching and non-teaching staff. The college is affiliated to North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon and conducts undergraduate programmes for Arts, Science and Commerce. The library is well furnished with reading hall and internet facility. It has sufficient books, encyclopedias, reference books, textbooks, periodicals, journals and daily newspapers. The college has Gymkhana department which provides outdoor game facilities to the students for inter-college, Zonal and University level sport competitions. The students of our college are enriched with extra-curricular activities by extending the opportunities through National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Career Guidance and counseling (CGCC). The student participates in NSS and develops social humor to serve the society. NCC cadets are stimulated to serve the nation. Competitive examinations, personality development, soft skill development and career oriented programmes are regularly conducted by CGCC. Many students always participates in various activities related to academic, cultural, sports etc. 'Earn and Learn Scheme’ is conducted to help the poor and economically weaker students. The administrative office is fully computerized. The college has adequate faculty and recruitment is done according to the guidelines of UGC. Most of the faculty members have presented papers in state, national and international level seminars, conferences and workshops. Some are working with Research projects sanctioned by UGC. Patil Arts, Commerce and Kai. Annasaheb N. K. Patil Science Sr. College Pimpalner is governed by this institution, which imparting higher education to tribal and economically backward students in this region. As a Principal I am very glad to present the self-study report of the college to the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Evaluation and testing are areas of specialization and demand special abilities and knowledge that come from years of study and practice. We, at the college have been benefited from the past NAAC assessment. Putting the suggestions to practice has improved the functioning of the college manifold. Taking reviews of the previous experiences, suggestions and recommendations, this college is constantly progressing. Keeping with the vision and mission of the College and University, we have been putting in all efforts to provide quality based higher education to keep our students update. In this report we have put in sincere efforts for assessing our working and achievements which have made us know our strengths and weaknesses. SCIENCE COLLEGE, PIMPALNER. Page 3 SELF STUDY REPORT 2015 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Pimpalner is situated in the western zone of the Dhule district which is completely tribal area. It is a town of near about a population around 40,000 divided into various communities, doing especially agriculture as the main resource of day to day life and small businesses like onion market, Ox market, Sawmills, Oil mills, Rice mills, Provisions, Wholesale and Retailing of corn crops and some small units like Packaging Industry and Brick industries etc. Most of the population is feeded with earnings from daily wages in agriculture, brick industries and small units. It is also the important feature of Pimpalner town which is located in the Western boundary of Maharashtra and Gujarat State. Which is 25 k.m. away from Pimpalner, the Gujarat State boundary with Dense forest which was an historical cause of Joint Maharashtra Movement of 1957-58 now divided into 3/4th area in Gujarat and 1/4th in Maharashtra. It is also a location at the Eastern ranges of Sahayadri. In pre-independence days of India Pimpalner city was Tehasil place but after Independence Tehasil headquarter shifted to Sakri because of heavy rainfall and unfavorable geographical conditions. Pimpalner is also known by the birth place of great Philosopher Late. Tarktirth Laxmanshastri Joshi. Previously there were no facilities available for higher education to the students. They had to go 22 k.m. away from the Pimpalner to Sakri or 45 k.m. away to Satana (Nasik district) for their further study. Due to financial conditions all of them could not afford to take higher education, especially Tribal students. The most important feature was to consider especially the female students who were kept away from higher education. In this area Pimpalner Education Society was the only one institution established in 1952 under Bombay public Trust Act 1950 and under co- operative act of 1960 by the founder member Late. Karm. Bandu Bapuji alias Shri. Anandrao Manikrao Patil who expired on 9thJanuary 1982. The Pimpalner Education Society developed and flourished because of the other founder members Late Annasaheb N. K. Patil, Late Kakasaheb H. A. Bhavsar and Late Dadasaheb V. K. Wani who had sincerely and honestly worked throughout their life for the institution. This is a remarkable feature in the history of the society. They are acknowledged every year by celebrating their anniversaries and observing their great deeds. After the establishment of Pimpalner Education Society in the initial stage, A school started with the strength of 28 students, at present society flourished with the following branches. Karm. A. M. Patil Science Senior College Pimpalner, Tal- Sakri, Dist. Dhule. These great personalities had decided to establish senior college right from 1975. They succeeded in the year June 1983 under University of Pune on non grant basis. It was permitted by the State Government. These founder members conducted the college on non grant basis till the year 1988. Institution has been granted from Oct. 1988. After the establishment of Senior College from June 1983, the students had availed facility of higher education in Arts, Commerce and Science faculties. These tribal graduates have been employed in various organizations and have strengthened their families with better economic and social benefits. More than 65% of our enrolment belongs to the tribal belt and are taking higher education and getting involved in day to day activities of the college which has lead to the upliftment of the communities. This is the very important social and educational role that our institution is playing since last 32 years. The Tribal Students involve in various cultural and extra-curricular activities of the college. This helps them to remove the shyness, ignorance is reduced, they achieve boldness, confidence etc. which enables them to face all the conditions in the future which they lack due to the caste, and the cosmopolitan areas. Our college is not only educating them with degree but we also provide them with some financial support, academic, social professional which helps them for the upliftment of the society. We think this is the remarkable role which we have accepted as the challenge and tried to fulfill as our goals. The Tribal students are from various castes and Tribes such as Bhil, Kokani, Pawara, Mavachi etc. We try to avail them with facilities like S.T. Bus passes, Govt. hostel, Govt. scholarship etc. which helps to take education near about free of cost.

    Chapter-7 Profile of Nashik District 7.1 A Historical Perspective : Nashik has a personaUty of its own, due to its mythological, historical, social and cultural importance. The city is situated on the banks of the Godavari River, making it one of the holiest places for Hindus all over the world. Nashik has a rich historical past, as the mythology has it that Lord Rama, the King of Ayodhya, made Nashik his adobe during his 14 years in exile. At the same place Lord Laxman, by the wish of Lord Rama, cut the nose of 'Shurpnakha' and thus this city was named as 'Nashik'. In Kritayuga, Nashik was 'Trikantak', 'Janasthana' in Dwaparyuga and later in Kuliyuga it became 'Navashikh' or 'Nashik'. Renowned poets like Valmiki, Kalidas and Bhavabhooti have paid rich tributes here. Nashi in 150 BC was believed to be the country's largest market place. From 1487 AD this province came under the rule of Mughals and was known as 'Gulchanabad'. It was also home of Emperor Akbar and he has written at length about Nashik in 'Ein-e-Akbari'. It was also known as the 'Land of the brave' during the regime of Chhatrapati ShivajiMaharaj. 7.1.1 Ramayana Period : No one knows when the city of Nashik came into existence. It is stated to have been present even in the Stone Age. Lord Ramchandra along with wife Sita and brother Laxman settled down in Nashik for the major time of their 'Vanwasa'. According to the mythology, Laxman cut the nose ('Nasika' in Sanskrita) of 'Shurpanakha' and hence the city got the name 'Nashik'.

RESOLUTION.-Number of locallx!ards.-The number of district lO<'.al boards· remained unchanged, but owing to the abolition, with effeot from 1st October 1935 of all taluka · local boards in the Sholapur, Belgaum and Surat districts th~ • number of taluka local boards decreased from 159 to 137. · ' ' 2. Area and population.-The area and population of the local boards during the year under report remained the same. · · 3. Oonstitution.-The constitution of the local boards remained unchanged except in _the case of the Kol!Lba District where an. additional elective seat was given to the Ahbag Taluka Constituency. ' ·· · 4. Elections.-·No general elections were held during the year. 5: Meetings-Northern Division.-The total number of meetings hold by the district and taluka local boards was 51 and 208 respectively as against 68 and 248 held during the previous year. The average percentage of attendance of the members at the meetings of district and taluka local boards was 82 · 24 and 71· 23, respectively, as against 83 · 85 and 74 · 02 in the previous year. The number ot meetings adjourned for want of a quorum and for other reasons was 10 in the case of district local boards and 13 in the case of taluka local boards as against 16 and 25 respectively during the preceding year, the chief reasons for the adjournments being (i) non-completion of the work on the agenda and "i) deaths of political leaders.

Vidhyamandirs L.V.H. Arts, Science and Commerce College, Panchvati, Nashik Abstract The present work embodies the ethno-veterinary studies of Baglan region of Nashik district. A total 17 species recorded from the area which was used on the detailed oral interviews held with Vaidhyas, Bhagat and elderly village people, shepherds, medicine men who have knowledge of therapeutic uses of indigenous plants and mostly use them in treating their ailments and folk medicinal diseases. A total 17 species belonging to 14 genera and 13 families were collected from the area which was used by village people as folk medicinal plants in treating their domestic animals for various ailments and diseases. For the convenience of knowledge of these plants, their botanical name, local name family, disease in which they are used and modes of application were given. Introduction Map – Geographical location of Baglan Taluka Ethno- veterinary deals with the total natural and traditional interrelationships between man and plants, and mans domesticated animals. Ethno-veterinary medicine is the knowledge developed by local livestock holders to treat various diseases of their domestic animals. The tribal’s maintain cattle, goat, sheep and farm animals for various purposes. Ethno-medicine is the Map - Geographical Location of Baglan Taluka of science in which plant base formulation known to tribal’s since ancient days are used to alleviate the disease. Herbal medicine is prepared from a variety of plant materials as leaves, stems, roots, bark etc.

It relished by the people all over India and highly in demand thi~ fruit which is a table fruit of the rich and dream of the poor. Grapes account one third area of the total area under fruit cultivation. Agriculture is the main economic activity of the district -and about 70 per cent working population is dependant on agriculture occupation. Since the commen­ cement of the five years plans, a number of schemes, regarding plantation of fruits und~rtaken by the Govern­ ment and due to planning schemes there is marked increase in the fruit products. The soil, climate and sufficient water of tapi and Godavari rivers is favourable for frutis. They prevented the carts containing foreign cloth bales from going into the sheds.
