PrivateHire KnowledgeTest Practice TestPaper 2016 To offer a safe and efficient service to the public it is important that Private Hire Drivers have a good general knowledge of the area they work in. Therefore, all new applicants for private hire drivers’ licences are required to pass a local knowledge test. Please familiarise yourself with Gloucester City Council’s Private Hire Rulebook and the UK Highway Code. Introduction to Gloucester City Council’s Private Hire Knowledge Test Welcome to the Private Hire Knowledge Test. Before you commence the Practice Test paper, we ask you to familiarise yourself with Gloucester City Councils Private Hire Rule Book and the Highway Code. You should also have a good knowledge of the City of Gloucester including places of interest and areas of the City. We expect candidates to demonstrate their ability to read maps and you may wish to purchase an A-Z (street map) of Gloucester to help you with some areas of this test, but we will provide you with a copy on the day of the test. Note: You should be given a free copy of the Private Hire Rule Book with this Practice Test paper. Please contact Gloucester City Council on01452 396396 if you need help to get a Rule Book. The day of the test • The test is usually held at the Council Offices on the second Thursday of the month and starts at 10.30am. Please arrive 15 minutes before the test starts. • On the day of the Private Hire Knowledge Test, you can park in the North Warehouse Car Park (parking charges apply). • Please see the receptionist when you arrive at the Council Offices. They will note your name and may show you to the test room where there will be other test candidates waiting. • The adjudicator will arrive and ask for your name. You will be required to produce evidence of your name and current home address. • Please bring identification such as your current driving licence for this purpose. • You will be given a pen, an A-Z (street map), PHK test paper and a spare piece of paper for working out. • You will be advised at the start of the test that you have up to45 minutes to complete it. • No mobile phones or other apps will be allowed to be used during the test. • No talking is allowed during the test except to ask the adjudicator a question. • No eating or drinking is permitted. • Any candidate caught cheating or conferring with other candidates during the test will be given an immediate fail and will be asked to leave the room. Pass and fail information Candidates must achieve a 75% pass rate to receive a Private Hire Knowledge Test Certificate. If you are successful, you will receive a pass certificate at your home address. This is the address that you give the adjudicator. If you fail, you will receive a letter with a breakdown of the areas where you have failed. Candidates are permitted to take the test 3 times in any 12 month period. You can contact the Licensing Team at Gloucester City Council on 01452 396396 to enquire whether you have passed or failed the test. Please allow a few days before making contact in case of unexpected delays. If you are successful, youmust bring your pass certificate to the City Council Offices with other documents as part of your Private Hire Application.
