He was a Metropolitan National Council National Finalist in 1986 and won the Mae M. Witaker Competition Rivolgete a lui lo sguardo K.584 Mozart in 1990. Prior to 1987, Mr. Zhou sang as a -baritone and performed such roles as Mephistopheles in Faust under conductor Kurt Adler at the Shanghai Opera Theater. II Since his American debut with the Illinois Opera Theater as Mozart's Figaro, he has successfully taken on such baritone roles as Papageno, Escamilla and Rodrigo. from the Goethe Lieder (1888-1889) Wolf Der Rattenfanger Mr. Zhou's rapidly growing list of American opera performances includes Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor for the Western Opera Theater National Tour and the Merola Phanomen Opera Program, as well as Germont in La Traviata at the Illinois Opera Theater in 1990. Mr. Zhou has performed a variety of works in concert, most notably Bernstein's Chichester Psalms under Seiji Ozawa with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Ill Tanglewood Festival Chorus. Other performances include Brahms' German Requiem from the Morike Lieder (1888) with the Illinois Symphony in Champaign-Urbana and, under John Oliver, at the Begegnung Berkshire Festival at Sheffield. Mr. Zhou has also sung Medelssohn's Elija with the Jagerlied University of Illinois Oratorio Society and Symphony Orchestra. During the 1991-92 Verborgenheit season , he is being heard in Brahms' German Requiem with the San Francisco Zur Warnung Symphony under the British conductor George Benjamin. Mr. Zhou was showcased at The Tanglewood Festival in 1987, has repeatedly Der Feuerreiter concertized in Baden bei Wien, Austria, and has given annual recitals with John Wustman at the University of Illinois since 1988. Louis Conservatory of Music in 1987, and diplomas in the performance of German Lieder from the Institute in IV Austria in 1986 and 1988. He has studied with John Wustman, William Warfield, Hans Chinese Folk Songs Tcherepnin Hotter, Walter Berry and Yi Kwei Sze.
