The Thorpe campus is dedicated to our Key Stage 3 students and nearly 5 miles away is the Frinton campus for our Key Stage 4 and 5 students. To get an even better feel for our school, follow the link to our College prospectus; http://www.tendringtechnologycollege.org/page/college-prospectus JOB DESCRIPTION Curriculum Leader – Geography (11-18) TLR 2b School: Tendring Technology College Post Held: Curriculum Leader – Geography (11-18) Salary Scale: TLR 2b Purpose: To be responsible and accountable for the quality of teaching and learning within the subject area To be responsible and accountable for student achievement within the subject area To model excellent teaching in Geography To raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the subject area and to monitor and support student progress To be accountable for student progress and development within the subject area To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students studying in the department, in accordance with the aims of the College and the curricular policies determined by the Governing Body and Principal of the College To be accountable for leading, managing and developing the subject area To effectively manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the department to support the designated curriculum portfolio To be accountable for leading, managing and developing his/her own subject specialism at the Thorpe and Frinton Campus. To support the Curriculum Leader for Humanities and to deputise when and where appropriate Reporting to: Curriculum Leader for Humanities Responsible for: Teachers within the subject area and other relevant personnel within the department Liaising with: Curriculum leader, teaching staff, support staff Core Duties: Planning: To assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching and learning strategies in the department To assist in the monitoring and following up of student progress To assist in the implementation of College Policies and Procedures e.g. Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety etc Curriculum Development To keep up to date with national developments in the subject area and teaching practice and methodologies To ensure the continued assessment of students within the core programme building upon baseline data from KS3 To assist in actively monitoring and responding to curriculum development and initiatives at national, regional and local levels To liaise with the Curriculum leader to maintain accreditation with the relevant examination and validation bodies Recruitment/Deployment of staff To contribute to Performance Management Reviews and act as a reviewer for a group of staff within the department To assist in promoting teamwork and motivate staff to ensure effective working relations within the department To participate in the College’s ITT programme Management Information To be responsible for the identification of exam entries within the department To be responsible for the use of analysis and evaluation performance data To actively monitor and follow up student progress Management of Resources To be proactive and assist the Curriculum Leader to identify resource needs and to contribute to the efficient/effective use of physical resources Marketing and Liaison To actively promote the development of effective links with external agencies To actively develop effective subject links with partner schools Pastoral System To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students within the curriculum area To contribute PSE, Citizenship and enterprise according to College policy To be responsible for the implementation of the behaviour management system in the department so that effective learning can take place Teaching To undertake an appropriate programme of teaching in accordance with the duties of a standard scale teacher Additional Duties To play a full part in the life of the college community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to encourage and ensure staff and students for this example Other Specific Duties: To continue personal development as agreed. At least 1 years’ teaching experience in a Secondary School . Evidence of successful experience of curriculum/subject development . Experience of successfully managing student improvement Desirable . Experience of managing examination entry procedures Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Essential . An experienced and strong classroom practitioner . Understanding of the characteristics of high quality teaching and effective learning . Evidence of successfully planning and implementing curriculum developments . Knowledge of current whole school developments in education . Evidence of leadership skills . Proven ability to work helping improve classroom practice . Ability to build and work with an effective team . Excellent written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills . Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and pay attention to detail .
