Metamorfik Alan- ya Masifinin bir nap şeklinde Sedre Triyas'mm üzerine geldiği ve bunun da bir tektonik pencere olarak görüldüğü görü- şüne varılmıştır. Hadimopanella oezgueli n. gen. n. sp. (incertae sedis) ve üç yeni konodont türü bulunmuştur. ABSTRACT: in the area studied Cambrian to Triassie systems are distinguished by the use of conodonts and their fauna is deseribed briefly. it is believed that the metamorphic Alanya massif overlays the Sedre Triassie as a nappe, forming a teetonic window. (1996). La recente scoperta di un piccolo campione, rivenuto nella Valle del Rio Seazza e in quella del Rio Rovadia, ha permesso un aggiornamento relativo ai crostacei decapodi delle Prealpi Carniche. Gli esemplari studiati sono stati assegnati a Acanthochirana triassica n. sp. (Aegeridae Burkenroad, 1963) e Antrimpos colettoi n. sp. (Penaeidae Rafinesque, 1815). Acanthochirana triassica n. sp. estende il range stratigrafico di questo genere nel Triassico superiore, mentre Antrimpos colettoi n. sp. rappresenta la seconda specie di questo genere segnalata nel Triassico superiore d’Italia. La scoperta di queste due nuove specie incrementa il numero delle specie di peneidi conosciuti nel Norico dell’alta Val Ta- gliamento (Prealpi Carniche settentrionali). Parole chiave: Crustacea, Decapoda, Aegeridae, Penaeidae, Triassico superiore, Prealpi Carniche. Abstract - The decapod crustaceans from the Upper Triassic (Norian) of the Dolomia di Forni Formation were reported by Garassino et al. (1996). The recent discovery of a small sample from this Formation between Seazza and Rovadia brooks allowed updating the decapod assemblages from the Norian of Carnic Pre-Alps. -

Long* Abstract Conodonts retrieved from limestone encasing the skull of a large placoderm fish, from an unknown lo'cation in the south-eastern Canning Basin, indicate an age of mid-Famennian (toIIB) because of the concurrent presence of the following taxa: Nothognathella palmatiformis, Nothognathella sp. nov, A. Druce 1976,Palmatolepis glabra pectinata, P. quadrantinodosa inflexa, P. quadrantinodosa inflexoidea, P. marginifera s.s., Polygnathus triphyllatus, P. glaber s.s. and P. germanus s.s. The assemblage represents a palmatolepid-polygnathid biofacies dominated by palmatolepids, and is typical of muddy outer shelf to sandy inner shelf environ ments. The occurrence of certain taxa which have only been previously recorded in the Canning Basin from the Virgin Hills Formation, together with the lithology of the specimen, and palaeoecological information afforded by the conodonts, suggests that the specimen was derived from the uppermost section of the Virgin Hills Formation. Introduction A large dinichthyid placoderm fish skull has recently been described as a new genus, Westralichthys Long (1987) even though the exact location and lithological source of the specimen is unknown. A limited conodont fauna of 76 elements was recovered from dilute acetic acid preparation of the dinichthyid skull. The fauna contains a number of age diagnostic species which have been used to narrow the possible age and stratigraphic source of the specimen. It is significant that the conodonts indicate a much younger age for the skull than the well known lower Frasnian Gogo fish fauna (Gardiner and Miles 1975), also from the same region. -

ABSTRACT- The succession cropping out in the Fosso Pantanelle area (Mt. S. Giovanni, Calabrian "Catena Costiera'; Upper Trias) provided a rich and well preserved conodont fauna. The basin stratigraphic succession is characterized by cherty lime mudstone with minor fine- grained calciturbidites and suspected tujìtes. Conodont founa is dominated by M. hernsteini and M. posthernsteini in the lower and middle part of the section, and by M. uftima in the uppermost part. Every species is represented by a great number of specimens. On the basis of the chronostratigraphic classification ofKozur & Mock (1991), the whole section may be referred to Rhaetian. Due to the good preservation and the great abundance of conodonts (some occurring in clusters), the calabrian Catena Costiera succession may represent a reference succession for the study ofthe latest Triassic conodont founas and chronostratigraphy. Abstract Slovenian Basin was formed during the Ladinian following disintegration of the Slo- venian Carbonate Platform. It persisted continuously until the Late Cretaceous. Several conodont asscociations were recognized within the Triassic rocks of the Slovenian Basin. Stratigraphically significant species belong to the genera Budurovignathus, Epigondolel- la, Gladigondolella, Metapolygnathus, Misikella, Neogondolella, Nicoraella, Norigondo- lella and Paragondolella. MICHAEL J. BENTON Department of Geology, University of Bristol, Bristol, BS8 1RJ, U.K. (Received January 7, 1991) Major extinctions occurred both in the sea and on land during the Late Triassic in two major phases, in the middle to late Carnian and, 12-17 Myr later, at the Triassic-Jurassic boundary. Many recent reports have discounted the role of the earlier event, suggesting that it is (1) an artefact of a subsequent gap in the record, (2) a complex turnover phenomenon, or (3) local to Europe. These three views are disputed, with evidence from both the marine and terrestrial realms. New data on terrestrial tetrapods suggests that the late Carnian event was more important than the end-Triassic event. For tetrapods, the end-Triassic extinction was a whimper that was followed by the radiation of five families of dinosaurs and mammal- like reptiles, while the late Carnian event saw the disappearance of nine diverse families, and subsequent radiation of 13 families of turtles, crocodilomorphs, pterosaurs, dinosaurs, lepidosaurs and mammals. Also, for many groups of marine animals, the Carnian event marked a more significant turning point in diversification than did the end-Triassic event. Magnetostratigraphic results delineate 12 normal and reverse polarity magnetozones, labelled successively from the base upwards as PM1n, PM1r, PM6n, PM6r. The Carnian/Norian boundary, based on conodont biostratigraphy, falls somewhere in the PM3n to PM5n interval which corre- sponds to the E14n to E16n magnetozone interval in the Newark reference sequence of polarity reversals. Comparison of magnetobiostratigraphic data from the Newark basin, Pizzo Mondello and other Late Triassic marine sections available from the literature suggests the existence of a reduction in sedimentation rate in the Tethyan marine domain at around the Carnian/ Norian boundary. Although the Newark and the expanded Pizzo Mondello sections correlate well with each other, correlation with the condensed Kavur Tepe and Scheiblkogel sections is unsatisfactory. A re-interpretation of the Kavur Tepe results suggests that the section is younger than its previous correlation with the Newark section, and that it was deposited in the northern instead of the southern hemisphere.
