Round 7 Split - 30-31May 2015 32 Round 7 Split - 30-31May 2015 1 www.bdafl.com.au www.bdafl.com.au FROM BEHIND THE DESK FIXTURES Rain continues to challenge all involved with football, of all codes this year. Saturday, 30 May 2015 NEAFL Once again we had ground closures which resulted in venue changes and I v No 1 Sportsground 12.00pm thank all the clubs once again for their assistance in accommodating the late Wilson Security Black Diamond Cup changes. Newcastle City v Terrigal Avoca No 1 Sportsground 3.00pm Unfortunately due to the late notice, the matches between Cardiff and All other teams playing 13 June Newcastle City were unable to be transferred and they have been Sunday, 31May 2015 rescheduled for future weeks. First Division Newcastle City v Killarney Vale St Oval 2.20pm There have been a number of comments surrounding No 1 Sportsground, Warners Bay v Maitland Feighan Oval 2.00pm however the decisions relating the playing on the ground are solely in the Singleton v Lake Macquarie Rose Point Park 1.15pm hands of the council rangers who inspect the ground on Saturday mornings. Cardiff, Terrigal Avoca, Wyong Lakes —Bye I understand that the ground was most likely playable later in the day how- Second Division ever council are protective of their “Regional” facility and there is nothing Nelson Bay v Lake Macquarie Dick Burwell Oval 2.20pm we can do about it. Hopefully that will change one day. All other teams—Bye Today State League football returns to No 1 Sportsground, with the North Eastern Australian Football GE Women’s Warners Bay v Newcastle City Feighan Oval 12.30pm League (NEAFL) match between Sydney Swans Reserves and Brisbane Lions Reserves. All other teams—Bye It is the third time that a NEAFL match involving the Swans will be played in Newcastle however it is the first time that their opponents will be another AFL side. Saturday, 6 June 2015 Whilst the sides may be lacking big name players, there is an abundance of talented young players Representative Fixture who are striving to carve out their AFL career, and who knows the next big thing in AFL football may BDAFL v AFL NSW/ACT Under 22’s Blacktown International 11.30am be strutting their stuff on No 1 Sportsground today. First Division In the past there has been plenty of local interest in the matches as the Swans have used local players Cardiff v Newcastle City No 1 Sportsground 1.00pm Second Division as “top up” players, including 13 players in their 2013 win over Eastlake. Unfortunately the powers to Cardiff v Newcastle City No 1 Sportsground 11.00am be decided pre-season to change the rules surrounding the make up of the top up players and unless Monday, 8 June 2015 there is a change of thinking there will be no local players used as “top ups” today. First Division I must admit that this decision is very short sighted and deprives the opportunity of local players the Maitland v Lake Macquarie Max McMahon Oval 2.00pm opportunity to impress at the next level. Second Division Whilst no doubt the NEAFL match will be of interest to many, there will also many who will be of the Maitland v Nelson Bay Max McMahon Oval 10.30am Women’s belief that the main match of the day will be the Black Diamond blockbuster between Newcastle City Maitland v Lake Macquarie Max McMahon Oval 12.30pm and Terrigal Avoca. These two teams have been the powerhouses of the BDAFL for a number of years now with the two clubs sharing the past seven premierships and either one of the teams has contested 12 of the past Saturday, 13 June 2015 Wilson Security Black Diamond Cup 13 Grand Finals. Killarney Vale v Nelson Bay Adelaide St Oval 2.00pm In 2015, Terrigal Avoca sit on top of the table, undefeated whilst Newcastle City sit in second position Cardiff v Warners Bay No 1 Sportsground 2.00pm with just the one loss, to Killarney Vale. Both teams have an abundance of talent and these clashes First Division seem to bring the best out in each other. Cardiff v Warners Bay No 1 Sportsground 12:00pm If you at the ground today for the NEAFL match do yourself a favour and hang around for the “main Wyong Lakes v Killarney Vale Don Small Oval 2:00pm Singleton v Newcastle City Rose Point Park 2:00pm match”. Lake Macquarie v Terrigal Avoca Tulkaba Park 2.00pm Congratulations to all those players who have gained selection in the BDAFL Representative squad for Maitland—Bye the representative fixture against AFL NSW/ACT Under 22’s side which will be played next Saturday at Second Division Blacktown International Sports Park. Cardiff v Warners Bay No 1 Sportsground 10.00am It is always an honour to be selected in any representative team as it gives you the opportunity to Wyong Lakes v Killarney Vale Don Small Oval 12.00pm Singleton v Newcastle City Rose Point Park 12.00pm play with the best players in the league and also test yourself against the best players in other Maitland v Muswellbrook Max McMahon Oval 12.00pm leagues. The Entrance Bateau Bay v Terrigal Avoca Bateau Bay 1.00pm The BDAFL has a proud representative history and I am sure the 22 players who pull on the jumper GE Women’s next Saturday will further enrich this history against arguably what will be the strongest opposition Wyong Lakes v Newcastle City Don Small Oval 10.30am faced. Maitland v Nelson Bay Max McMahon Oval 10.30am Lake Macquarie v Warners Bay Tulkaba Park 11.30am Enjoy your day at the footy !!! Just as football clubs keep many statistics on their players to maintain a sub- stantial history of their club, so too do the Newcastle Central Coast Umpires Association.

Since the Black Diamond AFL’s inception 15 years ago, 359 umpires have taken on the challenge of umpiring in our region in Senior footy. This is broken down into 150 field umpires, 216 boundary umpires and 132 goal umpires, many of these umpires have tried two or more disci- plines. Of the 359 total umpires to have ever graced our association, only 23 umpires have umpired in the all three disciplines (field, boundary and goal) in the Black Diamond AFL. Surprisingly, this does NOT include John Sullivan!

This season to date, we have already seen 16 NEW umpires take to the field. This is the second high- est intake of new umpires in the region for nearly ten years, with 2006 being the best year for debu- tants with 22 new umpires taking the field that year.

We currently have 4 members of the 300 CLUB, that being John Sullivan (371 games), Darrel Luck (338 games), Neville Turner (328 games) and Lee Gardener (301 games). There are also 6 other um- pires who have umpire 200 total matches or more: Richard Cornish (267 games), Roger Crowhurst (227 games), Colin Goodenough (224 games), Roy Reichert (218 games), Ray Dinneen (208 games) and Richard Judd (206 games). In addition to this statistic, 27 further umpires have umpired 100 matches or more in the BDAFL, with another two current members, Cooper Williams (99 games) and Ashley Borg (97 games) about to hit milestones in this area.

Here are our current games record holders, which you can also view by accessing the NCCUA Web- site, which is updated weekly with information such as milestones, statistics and appointments as well as news stories on prominent umpires, news and events within the NCCUA. You may also find some profiles on our members to see what makes us tick!
