It was a response to bombardment by foreign cultural forms. African art built itself through “bricolage” Modernism was designed to justify colonialism through the idea of progress, forcing the colonized to reject their past way of life. Vogel (1994) argues that because of Darwin’s theory of evolution and avant-garde ideology which rejected academic formulas of representation, colonialists forced restructuring of existing artistic practice in Africa. They introduced informal trainings and workshops. The workshop patrons-cum brokers did not teach the conventions of art. Philosophically the workshops’ purpose was to release the creative energies within Africans. This assumption was based on the Roseauian ideas integrated culture which is destroyed by the civilization process. Some workshop proponents discussed are Roman Desfosses, of colonial Belgian Congo, Skotness of Polly Street Johannesburg, McEwen National Art Gallery Salisbury and Bloemfield of Tengenenge. The entire workshop contributed to development of black art and the birth of genres like Township art, Zimbabwe stone sculpture and urban art etc. African art has the willingness to adopt new ideas and form; it has also long appreciation of innovation.

Under the coordination of the Food and Nutrition Council, the Zimbabwe Vulnerability Assessment Committee (ZimVAC) undertook the 2021 Rural Livelihoods Assessment, the 21st since its inception. ZimVAC is a technical advisory committee comprised of representatives from Government, Development Partners, UN, NGOs, Technical Agencies and the Academia. Through its assessments, ZimVAC continues to collect, synthesize and disseminate high quality information on the food and nutrition security situation in a timely manner. The 2021 RLA was motivated by the need to provide credible and timely data to inform progress of commitments in the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS 1) and inform planning for targeted interventions to help the vulnerable people in both their short and long-term vulnerability context. Furthermore, as the ‘new normal’ under COVID-19 remains fluid and dynamic, characterized by a high degree of uncertainty, the assessment sought to provide up to date information on how rural food systems and livelihoods have been impacted by the pandemic.

Is there any country information about attacks on farmers in the in Bikita in the district of Masvingo, in April 2008? Sources indicate that attacks took place on farmers in the Masvingo district during April 2008. These attacks coincided with national elections when tension between government and opposition supporters was extremely high. According to a Times Online report from 8 April he farm invasions began on Saturday in Masvingo province, about 160 miles south of the capital, Harare. Five farmers were forced to flee or were trapped inside their homes by drunken mo 1 The same report stated that two farm owners had been forced from their land for voting for the MDC, and farmers and their staff were beaten and threatened with further violence.2 The MDC claimed on 18 April 2008 that the violence started almost immediately after the elections on March 29, and claimed some of its supporters in remote rural areas were homeless after their homes were looted and burnt down by the suspected ZANU PF (Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front) activists.3 The US Ambassador to Zimbabwe James McGee on 18 April commented on the violence taking place through Zimbabwe: There is growing evidence that rural communities are being punished for their support for opposition candidates. We have disturbing and confirmed reports of threats, beatings, abductions, burning of homes and even murder, from many parts of the country.4 These activities formed part of Operation Mavhoterapapi (who/where did you vote), a campaign designed to intimidate MDC supporters, and centred on rural areas of Zimbabwe.

In addition to the concepts of pre-planning for death, property and wife inheritance, relevant aspects of life such as marriage, patriarchal succession and sickness are also considered. It is unclear what pattern of care and support for widows is emerging to replace the declining practice of wife inheritance. The implication of these factors on the planning of effective intervention strategies is considered. Introduction AIDS has been spreading rapidly through Zimbabwe as in other sub-Saharan African countries. Serosurveillance studies (MOH, 1993) carried out in antenatal mothers have shown HIV prevalence levels of over 30% in urban areas and around 20% in rural areas. The Elim Pentecostal Church of Zimbabwe (EPCZ) administers a church centre in the communal lands in the northern part of Nyanga District in the north-eastern part of Zimbabwe close to the border with Mozambique. This centre provides educational and health services to the community in the surrounding area.

CAMPFIRE aims to help rural communities to manage their resources, especially wildlife, for their own local development. The program's central objective is to alleviate rural poverty by giving rural communities autonomy over resource management and to demonstrate to them that wildlife is not necessarily a hindrance to arable agriculture, ``but a resource that could be managed and `cultivated' to provide income and food''. In this paper, we assess two important elements of CAMPFIRE: poverty alleviation and local empowerment and comment on the program's performance in achieving these highly interconnected objectives. We analyze the program's achievements in poverty alleviation by exploring tenurial patterns, resource ownership and the allocation of proceeds from resource exploitation; and its progress in local empowerment by examining its administrative and decision making structures. We conclude that the program cannot eectively achieve the goal of poverty alleviation without ®rst addressing the administrative and legal structures that underlie the country's political ecology.
