    City of Richland Little League Tournament Rules 2015 City League Tournament Revision 2 Rules The following Richland City Tournament rules may not conflict with the 2015 Baseball Official Regulations with Playing and Tournament Rules – commonly referred to as “The Green Book”. For circumstances not covered by these rules below “The Green Book” will be utilized.     Taking a Good Approach at the Plate !We have all see hitters who we feel overachieve and underachieve their mechanics and physical abilities at the plate. We cannot, for the life of us, figure out why the kid who absolutely crushes the ball in the cage, has solid mechanics, and a quick bat hits 50 points lower than the kid who looks far less impressive in the cage, has slower hands, and has questionable mechanics. If this is the case, look no further than pitch selection and plate approach. !We often hear coaches reminding players to have a proper approach at the plate, but what exactly does that mean? A good approach at the plate means different things depending on the age level you are coaching. Basic Levels !At the most basic levels, a proper approach simply means getting a good pitch to hit in any count and not swinging at pitches far out of the strike zone. Pitchers may not be changing speeds very much, and certainly are not locating pitches very well below the age of 12. At this age level simply emphasize getting a good pitch to hit and protecting the the strike zone with two strikes. Advanced Levels !Once pitchers begin to chance speeds and locate pitches, the concept of taking a quality at bat changes quite a bit. The idea at this level is still to get a good pitch to hit, but the concept of a “good pitch” needs to be refined. The toughest thing to get across to your players is that not every fastball that is a strike is a good pitch to hit.

    THE RULES OF SCORING 2011 OFFICIAL BASEBALL RULES WITH CHANGES FROM LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL’S “WHAT’S THE SCORE” PUBLICATION INTRODUCTION These “Rules of Scoring” are for the use of those managers and coaches who want to score a Juvenile or Minor League game or wish to know how to correctly score a play or a time at bat during a Juvenile or Minor League game. These “Rules of Scoring” address the recording of individual and team actions, runs batted in, base hits and determining their value, stolen bases and caught stealing, sacrifices, put outs and assists, when to charge or not charge a fielder with an error, wild pitches and passed balls, bases on balls and strikeouts, earned runs, and the winning and losing pitcher. Unlike the Official Baseball Rules used by professional baseball and many amateur leagues, the Little League Playing Rules do not address The Rules of Scoring. However, the Little League Rules of Scoring are similar to the scoring rules used in professional baseball found in Rule 10 of the Official Baseball Rules. Consequently, Rule 10 of the Official Baseball Rules is used as the basis for these Rules of Scoring. However, there are differences (e.g., when to charge or not charge a fielder with an error, runs batted in, winning and losing pitcher). These differences are based on Little League Baseball’s “What’s the Score” booklet. Those additional rules and those modified rules from the “What’s the Score” booklet are in italics. The “What’s the Score” booklet assigns the Official Scorer certain duties under Little League Regulation VI concerning pitching limits which have not implemented by the IAB (see Juvenile League Rule 12.08.08).

    HarbourCats Branded Peg-Board Baseball Game Basic Rules This game allows a simple and easy way to play a game of baseball by yourself, with another person, or with a group of friends. While it helps to have a good knowledge of the game of baseball, or at least the basics, even beginners should be able to understand how the game proceeds. If you do need a primer on the basic rules of baseball, there should be plenty of sites on-line to explain these. Google "Basic Baseball Rules" and you should be good to go! You can play the game without any formal batting lineups or scorecards, or if you are a full on baseball expert, you can go ahead and create your own fantasy line- ups and scorecards and really have a fun simulation. HarbourCats vs. Corvallis, or New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox, the choice is yours! Board-Set Up Remove the pegs from the compartment built into the back of the board. Place the 4 BLUE pegs (HarbourCats) in the 4 holes marked "HOME". Place 4 of the RED pegs (Visiting team) in the 4 holes marked "GUEST". Place the remaining BLUE and RED peg in the two holes on either side of word "RUNS" at the top left by the main scoreboard. You will use these to track the score for each team. Place one of the NEUTRAL pegs in the hole next to "OUT" and the other in the hole beneath "1" and next to "GUEST" in the "INNINGS" scoreboard. You will use these to track the top and bottom of each inning and the outs in each.

    How to do a Red Sox Baseball Rundown: Get the baseball into your throwing hand. You want this so you can tag or throw quickly. Choose your throwing path. Both infielders, whether throwing the ball or receiving it, should get to the same side of the base runner. For example, both players get to the infield grass side. This will prevent the throw hitting the runner, and gives both thrower and receiver a clear line of sight. Run toward the target. If you have the baseball, it is your job to run hard at him so he can make a decision. If you run hard, he has to run hard and it is more difficult to stop and change directions. Make him commit and either tag him or give the ball up to the receiving infielder. If you are receiving the baseball, you should close the gap between you and your partner. This makes it more difficult for the runner to stop and get going the other direction before you can tag him. Also, this will keep the play in the middle of the bases and not close enough to where he can make an athletic slide and get in safely. Follow your throw. For example- If you are playing first base and you throw it to the shortstop, peel off and continue to second base. You will be in line behind the second baseman who is waiting for the next throw, and if the shortstop gives the baseball up, he goes to first base and gets in line. It is set up this way just in case it takes longer than two throws.
