PRESIDENTS REPORT

Kings Fans,

Welcome to the second to last edition of the Kings Speech for the 2017 season. Last weekend we saw it all - horrendous winds, a forfeit, a win and a loss. The C-grade recorded a 10-goal win after Unley had to forfeit the game, the A-grade had a close tussle with Unley all day but unfortunately went down by 15-points and the B-grade provided the best entertainment for the day, kicking a goal after the siren to win by 2 points.

This weekend marks our last home game for the 2017 season and it promises to be the biggest one yet. We face off against Scotch with all three teams playing at Haslam Oval at revised game times. Please look below to see the times for all three games.

We would like to welcome all sponsors to our sponsor’s day this weekend starting at 1pm in the top bar of the Pavilion. Beers, wine and nibbles will be served whilst you watch the football in the warmth.

We are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Kings OS Football Clubs first two premierships this Saturday with many members of the winning 1967 A3 and A3 Reserves teams in town. Thank you must go to Richard Keane who has worked tirelessly to organise this celebration. The past players will be enjoying a dinner at the Robin Hood Hotel to celebrate their achievements and reminisce on their playing days.

We’ve appreciated your support in what has been at difficult season and we look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday.

Saturday 12th of August: Pembroke Kings versus Scotch OS.

B-grade: 11:30am at Haslam Oval A-grade: 1:45 pm at Haslam Oval C-grade: 4:00pm at Haslam Oval under lights.

Jack and Luke Co-Presidents.

Not the result we were after against Unley-Mercedes Jets on Saturday but a much-improved effort that gives me confidence that a win is not far away.

In Arctic conditions at Kingswood Oval, the players committed pre-match to putting their heads over the ball and being smart with the football. It was an arm wrestle all day and it wasn’t until very late in the game that the game just slipped from our grasp. For the first time in a while, we had contributors all over the ground. A similar spread this week should go a long way to seeing us win a virtual Grand Final, in terms of keeping us in the hunt to remain in Division 2 next year.

I know the players would appreciated as much support as possible in our last home game of the season, as we look to avenge our mid-season loss to a Scotch side that will be just as desperate as us to grab the points.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate a Kings’ favourite son, Michael Walsh, and his wife, Tiffany, on the birth of their first child, Sean. Fantastic news for Walshy and family!

ROUND 16 VS B GRADE REPORT Goal Kickers R. Goldsworthy 2, P. Clayer, N. Bentley, M. Fischer, L. Allen

Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Best Players Unley Mercedes 0.0-0 0.0-0 0.0-0 6.5-41 M. Fischer, T. O’’Flaherty, L. Duhne, N. Smith, O. Richardson Pembroke Kings 0.0-0 0.0-0 0.0-0 6.7-43

Tuesday & Thursday trainings were very good last week as we concentrated on intensity at the contest, multiple efforts & security of the ball & given the conditions on Saturday that was a perfect lead into the game. BKings were first to it & quite obviously wanted the ball more than the higher ranked Jets. Despite this, it was a see sawing game as a result of some silly mistakes by BKings as we kept the Jets in it, that is, right up to the last 10 seconds when LA* completed a desperate play that started with 30 seconds left on the clock & the ball in the Jets forward pocket. The resulting celebrations when LA kicked truly were grand final like & the relief at eventually tasting success, made the warm beers tang very nice in the cold & windy carpark.

Fish** & Tom O*** led the way in the middle using their agility & strength to feed the balls out to the wide runners. Making it easier for them the big Duhne**** was feeding them ball after ball out of the ruck contest & providing a presence at marking contests as well, while the Pig***** & Richo****** provided the run & composure out of the backline. It was a more complete game by the team & a win that we deserved on the day after a less than ideal season.

Training this week has been well attended & of a good standard, so like last week we hope that this intensity & feel continues into the game. Scotch who were winless last time we played them, embarrassed us on their home deck in what was a pathetic display from BKings. Like last week we look forward to contested footy & being on the right side of the scoreboard when the final siren sounds.

Cheers Jim
