The most common clinical features, present in more than a third of patients, consist of coronal synostosis, brachycephaly, low frontal hairline, facial asymmetry, hypertelorism, broad halluces, and clinodactyly. The estimated birth incidence is 1/25,000 to 1/50,000 but because the phenotype can be very mild, the entity is likely to be underdiagnosed. SCS is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait with a high penetrance and variable expression. The TWIST gene located at chromosome 7p21-p22, is responsible for SCS and encodes a transcription factor regulating head mesenchyme cell development during cranial tube formation. Some patients with an overlapping SCS phenotype have mutations in the FGFR3 (fibroblast growth factor receptor 3) gene; especially the Pro250Arg mutation in FGFR3 (Muenke syndrome) can resemble SCS to a great extent. Since these patient populations are different in many respects, we sought out to investigate the rates of loss of correction over time as well as the factors associated with loss of correction in pediatric patients undergoing osteotomy for treatment of cubitus varus deformity. Methods Between 2008-7 and 2017-7, we treated 30 cases of cubital varus had underwent the the osteotomy. We compared preoperative and postoperative clinical and imaging parameters (H-cobb angle,Baumman angle) for all patients. Postoperative evaluation was performed by telephone interview. Results In our study,there were 30 patients,included 17 males and 13 females.the mean age was 75 months old.In the rst follow-up,Approximately 80 % of patients had a loss of correction of H-cobband 83% of patients at the second follow-up. The Baumann angle also had a loss of correction,about 57% was lost at the rst follow-up,and 43% was lost at the second follow-up. The average interval between the rst follow-up and the second follow-up was 24 days The H-cobb angle mean loss was 2.4°.There was a statistically signicant difference between the H-cobb angle measured before surgery and the angle measured after surgery (p <0.05). -

Both conservative and surgical treatment options exist; the choice of which to use should be based on the type, severity, and location of the deformity as well as the age of the foal. Conservative measures include controlled exercise, rigid external limb support, and corrective hoof trimming. Surgical treatment modalities comprise tech- niques for manipulating physeal growth and, after physeal closure, various corrective osteotomy or ostectomy methods. Group of Hospitals, Bombay-8, India SUMMARY Sixteen cases with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita were examined clinically and electromyographically; three of them were re-examined later. Joint deformities were present in all extremities in 13 of the cases; in eight there was some degree of mental retardation. In two cases, there was clinical and electromyographic evidence of a myopathic disorder. In the majority, the appearances of the shoulder-neck region suggested a developmental defect. At the same time, selective weakness of muscles innervated by C5-C6 segments suggested a neuropathic disturbance. EMG revealed, in eight of 13 cases, clear evidence of denervation of muscles, but without any regenerative activity. The non-progressive nature of this disorder and capacity for improvement in muscle bulk and power suggest that denervation alone cannot explain the process. Clinical Findings and Diagnosis: There are varying degrees of synovial distention of the tendon sheath and lameness, depending on the severity. Horses are markedly lame in septic tenosynovitis. Chronic tenosynovitis is common in horses in the tarsal sheath of the hock (thoroughpin) and in the digital sheath (tendinous windpuffs). These two entities must be differentiated from bog spavin and synovial effusion of the fetlock. aeatment: In idiopathic cases, no treatment is initially recommended. Acute cases with clinical signs may be treated symptomatically with cold packs, nonsteroidal anti-in- flammatory drugs, and rest. Application of counterirritants and bandaging has been used in more chronic cases. Radiation therapy is helpful. Septic tenosynovitis requires systemic antibiotics and drainage. If adhesions develop between the tendon sheath and the tendon, persistent effusion and lameness is the rule. Congenital and inherited anomalies can result in the birth of diseased or deformed neonates. Congenital disorders can be due to viral infections of the fetus or to ingestion 1 of toxic plants by the dam at certain stages of gestation. FRONTISPIECE. Steve Nesbitt was awarded the 4th L. H. WALKINSHAW CRANE CONSERVATION AwARD on 10 February 2006 in Zacatecas City, Zacatecas, Mexico. Steve’s work with Florida sandhill cranes began over 3 decades ago. He first published a paper on cranes in 1974, and since has authored or co-authored >65 publications on cranes. Steve, a founding member of the North American Crane Working Group, is the world’s authority on Florida sandhill cranes. Steve has been active in the conservation of other races of sandhill cranes, including the eastern greater sandhill crane and the Cuban sandhill crane. Over 27 years Steve banded 1,093 individual sandhill cranes. Steve was the driving force in Florida for the re-establishment of non-migratory whooping cranes. In addition, Steve has published 40 other papers on species such as red- cockaded woodpeckers and wood storks. His life’s work (much of which can only be described as of pioneering quality) focused on conservation of species threatened with extinction. Though employed for 34 years by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (previously the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission), Steve’s conservation efforts go beyond Florida’s boundaries. Steve, through the donation/translocation from the State of Florida, has been instrumental in the recovery of the brown pelican and bald eagle. (Photo by Scott Hereford.)
