NEWS RELEASE Jane Heisler, Director of Public Affairs, 503-697-6573 For Immediate Release Contact: Kathy Kern June 20, 2007 503-675-3983 LIVE EARTH CONCERT FOR GLOBAL WARMING AWARENESS JULY 7, 2007 LAKE OSWEGO –The City of Lake Oswego is hosting an all-day music event in conjunction with the Lake Oswego Farmers Market on July 7, 2007. Part of the event includes tapping into the webcast of the globe-wide Live Earth Concert series, followed by the “Live LO Show” with local performers, Daniel Crothers & Friends and the Sandin Wilson Trio. The all-day music event begins at 8:30 a.m. in Millennium Plaza Park at the intersection of 1st and Evergreen in downtown Lake Oswego, when the City will broadcast onto the big screen the Live Earth concerts from Rio de Janeiro and Giants Stadium as part of the Save Our Selves – The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis” (S.O.S.) campaign. After the big finale on the east coast – at approximately 5:00 p.m. our time – the “Live LO Show” begins with our own local talents of Daniel Crothers & Friends stepping up to the mike, followed by The Sandin Wilson Trio playing at 7:00 p.m. The S.O.S campaign is aimed at heightening public awareness about global warming. Over 150 of the world's top musicians will play in concerts across the globe starting in Sydney and continuing to Tokyo, Shanghai, Johannesburg, London, and Rio de Janeiro before concluding at Giants Stadium. Concerts will include artists such as AFI, Akon, Alicia Keys, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews Band, Fall Out Boy, Jennifer Lopez, John Mayer, Gilberto Gil, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, KT Tunstall, Lenny Kravitz, Ludacris, Melissa Etheridge, Rihanna, Roger Waters, Sheryl Crow, Smashing Pumpkins, Snoop Dogg, and The Police. The band's performance was captured on the just-released "Day Of The Gusano" , but instead of being advertised as a live DVD or concert film, "Gusano" (Spanish for "maggot", a word long ago appropriated by the band to describe its fans) has been described as a "documentary". Don't be misled, however, for around four-fifths of its 90-minute running time, "Gusano" , which was screened in select theaters around the world, shows SLIPKNOT performing a 16-song set before an enormous, passionate crowd. (For reasons unknown, the DVD and Blu-ray editions rearrange the track listing from the audio-only release. That version showcases the group's complete 17-song set in the same order in which it was performed, and omits "People = Shit" .) The remaining quarter-hour or so primarily features snippets of interviews with unmasked band members and a handful of unidentified Mexican fans, with both camps attempting to portray the group's arrival in town as a Really.

One of the green initiatives growing in popularity is the practice of green construction. Commercial, educational, and government buildings have increased their use of sustainable construction materials and environmentally-friendly designs with the addition of green roofs and living walls. Green roofs either partially or completely cover the roof of a building with vegetation for environmental and economic benefits. Living walls are similar to the design, construction and function of green roofs, yet these walls exist indoors or outdoors as a vertical arrangement of plants. One example of a living wall is an indoor herb wall constructed by Penn State. In Penn State’s entry to the 2009 Solar Decathlon competition, the Natural Fusion house contains planter boxes with herbs used for cooking that hang in the kitchen on boards of horizontal poplar. This indoor living herb wall receives sunlight from three skylights and water from the house occupants. Despite the green construction efforts in the United States, living walls are more popular and common in Europe than the rest of the globe.

At first, this seemed like a brilliant idea to school administrations: paperless classrooms, instant information and the convenience of cut-and-paste. Brian Kwee, a senior at Bergen County Academies, said, “I think that laptops are useful tools in our school. The first six months represent major improvements and growth, followed by the sudden public closure and responses to the Covid health crisis. The year began with the renewal of the Rhythm Foundation’s management agreement. Experience and momentum gathered during the first management term were brought to bear and a season of widely diverse cultural offerings was undertaken. Long awaited capital improvements of the canopy covering and new seating system were completed in February. The season was in the middle of the busiest period in mid March when we closed the facility to the public in mid March due to the Covid health crisis. We immediately modified and adapted our operations using live streaming technologies to complete the Rhythm Foundations’s 32nd season. Emergency funding and support from the City, County and Federal government have been critical to sustaining the organization through this prolonged health crisis. We proactively engaged with community partners to identify funding, tech support and best practices for safe operations. Since going virtual in mid-March, we’ve broadcast sixteen (16) full length concerts as live streams to a collective audience of over 100,000 viewers from all over the world. The 20/21 season ahead is anchored by partnerships with the leading cultural presenting organizations in the South Florida, furthering our goal of establishing the North Beach Bandshell as a major performing arts facility in our region.
