It takes mucho cojones—18 of them, apparently—to stage a giant, carnival-like festival for your first live appearance in a foreign country, and that's exactly what SLIPKNOT did in December of 2015 when they held the seventh Knotfest in Toluca, Mexico (about an hour's drive west of Mexico City). The band's performance was captured on the just-released "Day Of The Gusano" , but instead of being advertised as a live DVD or concert film, "Gusano" (Spanish for "maggot", a word long ago appropriated by the band to describe its fans) has been described as a "documentary". Don't be misled, however, for around four-fifths of its 90-minute running time, "Gusano" , which was screened in select theaters around the world, shows SLIPKNOT performing a 16-song set before an enormous, passionate crowd. (For reasons unknown, the DVD and Blu-ray editions rearrange the track listing from the audio-only release. That version showcases the group's complete 17-song set in the same order in which it was performed, and omits "People = Shit" .) The remaining quarter-hour or so primarily features snippets of interviews with unmasked band members and a handful of unidentified Mexican fans, with both camps attempting to portray the group's arrival in town as a Really. Big. Deal. Unfortunately, "Gusano" is far more effective as a document of SLIPKNOT 's live fury than when it aims to be something more. The concert footage—captured exceptionally in every imaginable angle by 15 cameras, plus a GoPro or two—looks glorious, and save for a few jarring cuts and some shaky footage filmed inside a mosh pit, its direction by the band's Shawn "Clown" Crahan is more than competent. The sound is sterling as well, and presented here in both LPCM stereo and DTS-HD. If you've never seen the band in concert or simply want to relive the SLIPKNOT live experience, it's hard to imagine a better vehicle through which to do so than "Gusano" . Therein lies the problem, though. After every two or three songs, Crahan cuts to a brief vignette with titles such as "Getting To Know One Another", "Wandering Around" and "Step Inside". Although the sincerity of the fans being interviewed is clear—one says he sold his Fender guitar in order to buy a Knotfest ticket, while another says he declined the graduation gift of a car in favor of travel funds to make it to the show—these segments are too short and superficial to leave a lasting impact. It's also a bit awkward that none of the fans are ever identified by name. Granted, that might be intentional, in a "Fight Club" /we're-all-maggots sort of way, but still, more context would have given the clips more resonance. Even worse, unlike the songs in the band's set list, these vignettes are not indexed in the menu, making it impossible to watch them a la carte or even locate them without ample use of the fast-forward button. It would also have been more user-friendly to provide the option to view "Gusano" with or without the vignettes—similar to when a DVD offers the choice between a film's theatrical or unrated version—so that the live footage, which maggots will surely rewatch to a greater extent, could be experienced without interruption. Perhaps the highest compliment that can be given to that live footage is that whether or not you're a SLIPKNOT fan, it's too compelling to look away. There's always something going on onstage, from cherry pickers that levitate custom percussion rigs, to the columns of flames that punctuate multiple songs, to Sid Wilson sprinting across the stage while hoisting a Mexican flag during "Vermillion" , to Corey Taylor asking the crowd to get down, literally, before commanding them to "jump the fuck up" during "Spit It Out" . After the credits finish rolling, Crahan —fresh from the stage, apparently—offers a few seconds of post-show reflection, saying that the group's first Mexican concert "lived up to expectations." If you watch "Gusano" hoping to see a documentary, you might not say the same, but as a snapshot of SLIPKNOT 's live power, "Gusano" delivers the goods. Download day of the gusano mp4. I have vivid memories of strangers shouting ‘Slipknot!’ at me in the street before I even knew what that meant (it was a confusing time). They were probably my gateway to the more extreme end of the metal genre. So they hold a great deal of nostalgia for me. Last month they released a live DVD of their first ever gig in Mexico City which took place in December 2015. Talking about ‘Day of the Gusano’, M. Shawn Crahan, aka Clown (who directed the DVD) has said; “Slipknot still has dreams for itself. Finally playing Mexico was one of them. It’s been a surreal life of rock and roll for Slipknot and the fact that the dreams still go on for us is simply incredible. Thank you.” Guitarist Jim Root continues; “We had such a great time at Knotfest Mexico… Not only with all the friends and bands that were there, but with the fans and the crowd we had to document it with. Now we get to share it with the world.” I think the thing that struck me most about the footage is the crowd. Central and South America are renowned for their skill at bringing together a large crowd of headbangers. It is safe to say that I’ve never attended a gig as large as this one. It is a dizzying sight to behold; a dense carpet of human beings all swaying and swirling to the harsh aggressive beats. The tiny maggots stretch out as far as the eye can see. The stage in Mexico, like the crowd, is vast. Slipknot always put on a mad show. I saw them in Newcastle back in 2008 and was close enough to the stage to find the experience genuinely distressing – the band menacing me in their masks. They always incorporate a lot of movement into the show – drums spin and rotate in time to the music, the stage turned into playground for the demented masked carnival creatures. Corey Taylor is a great frontman, barking out the lyrics to classics like ‘Before I Forget’, ‘Duality’ and ‘People = Shit’ with a great deal of emotion, speaking to the crowd in Spanish and getting them singing along. Highlight of the set, though, is the huge explosive finale. This spectacle is worth a watch for anyone who’s ever been a fan of Slipknot. The band hasn’t had the easiest of times. It’s great to see that, despite tragedy, they’re still delivering their show with passion. Sara Ann Thomas MA (Hons) Submitted in fulfilment for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Faculty of Arts University of Glasgow January 2009 © Sara Thomas 2009 Abstract This thesis examines the subject in Popular American Metal music and culture during the period 1994-2004, concentrating on key artists of the period: Korn, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Tura Satana and My Ruin. Starting from the premise that the subject is consistently portrayed as being at a time of crisis, the thesis draws on textual analysis as an under appreciated approach to popular music, supplemented by theories of stardom in order to examine subjectivity. The study is situated in the context of the growing area of the contemporary gothic, and produces a model of subjectivity specific to this period: the contemporary gothic subject. This model is then used throughout to explore recurrent themes and richly symbolic elements of the music and culture: the body, pain and violence, the grotesque and the monstrous, and the figure of the child, representing a usage of the contemporary gothic that has not previously been attempted. Attention is also paid throughout to the specific late capitalist American cultural context in which the work of these artists is situated, and gives attention to the contradictions inherent in a musical form which is couched in commodity culture but which is highly invested in notions of the ‘Alternative’. In the first chapter I propose the model of the contemporary gothic subject for application to the work of Popular Metal artists of the period, drawing on established theories of the contemporary gothic and Michel Foucault’s theory of confession.

    Slipknot – Iowa (2001) Album named after the band's home state of Iowa Bio of the band: Slipknot is a heavy-metal band consisting of nine members, all of whom are male, who became popular because of its extreme music and dramatic stage performances. This group was first formed in the late 1995 in the unlikely locale of Des Moines, IA. It had 3 percussionists, 2 guitarists, 1 bassist, a DJ, a sampler and a lead singer. Aside from their real names, members of the band are also referred to by numbers 0 through 8 and each of them also wears a mask, which they said is part of their personality, like an extension of their body. To explain that, all the group members believe that wearing the masks shows more of what they are like inside and what the music does to them inside. Pįednášela nám cestovatelka, která tuhle oblast Jížní Ameriky procestovala s manželem. Povídání bylo zajímavé. Vyprávěla nám o indiánech v Bolívii, o jejich strachu fotit se, o útrapách s autem v poušti i o problémech s nadmoįskou výškou. Celou pįednášku doplnila o ukázky oblečení z Bolívie, sošek vyrobených indiány a pár suvenýrů. Pįednáška byla velice poutavá a doufám, že v pįístím týdnu jazyků se objeví podobné pįednášky. Petra Adamčíková, tercie A, TOP SECRET Během týdne jazyků jsme měli možnost seznámit se s projektem TOP SECRET který se dostal do Česka díky Goethe institutu. Za celým nápadem stojí Němec Simon Menner, který strávil dlouhé hodiny v archivu, kde postupně prošel téměį 40 tisíc fotografií východoněmecké tajné policie Stasi, které nebyly včas pįed pįevratem zničeny. Fotografie, které jsme viděli, byly různorodé - momentky poįízené během prohlídek bytů, manuál maskování tajného agenta nebo i tajné signály kterými se agenti mezi sebou domlouvali.
